A Career for Happiness

I have always been strangely infatuated by the beauty in our natural environment. I was obsessed with it really, and spent years and years with my nose buried in identification guides. Who wouldn't want to be able to label all that you see and properly? From flora to fauna I tried to master it all. Aside from memorizing all their names both common and scientific, I just had to include interesting facts. I'm a walking talking encyclopedia of natural knowledge who loves to share her wealth with children.

I hold daily tours in all types of weather conditions. It is amazing how in the same area, what or who you see can differ based on moisture, heat, even time. My students love me and I love challenging them to appreciate the natural world instead of spending all their time on a phone. Not all of my tours are just children though, I try to change it up based on the crowd I bring. I have multiple repeat explorers simply because they feel like every time they get something new out of the tour.

Currently I hold tours predominantly in Peka Park or Peka Glade about 9-10 months out of the year. I hold them every day rain or shine and have yet to have a tour that was completely empty. I don't even charge anymore for them. People have been so kind in donating money and items. I only use enough to sustain myself and the rest gets donated across different nature conversations. It is just so nice seeing people give out of their pockets to protect what they just witnessed. It clicks for them how beautiful and important every species of plant or animal or bug is and how necessary it is to help them thrive for generations to come.

The other months I travel to a new region like Arctic Frost, Darkside, or Omen Islands to assist in scientific exploring. There it is my job to see if all the new specimens are in fact new, or just rediscovered. Quite the fun task if I do say so myself. If I don't immediately recognize it then I get to spend hours and hours with my face stuck in books. Being on the research team gives me access to some really old and totally unique one of a kind journals to reference. It is amazing to see sketches inked so long ago. Some explorers were full of themselves and named everything after themselves, others referenced various pop culture icons of their time.

Well that is all I have to say for now. Another tour is about to start in 10 minutes so I need to run. Got to go greet the fellow explorers and get a feel for what type of tour I am going to give. Who knows what we will find today!
