Alric Vogel was a simple boy. He spent most of his days under the trees, curled up with a good book or watching clouds drift lazily across the sky. The war had ended and all of the dreadful memories were like a distant story to him, a part of the past where he did not exist. He lived a quiet life, both in school and at home, and he was perfectly content.

The stars had always captivated him. Many nights were spent with an old pair of binoculars , gazing at the world that existed beyond the atmosphere. Alric was full of wonder, but rarely asked questions. He was satisfied with simply observing the world around him, never taking risks. He could have spent his entire life reading about adventures from the safety of his home, but the universe had a different plan.

The sky was perfectly clear, each star glistening more brightly than the other, as if they were competing. Alric was excited to spend his usual, peaceful night at home. Binoculars in hand, he made his way to the nearest field and laid in the grass. He stared up at the sky and felt so at ease, his eyelids suddenly too heavy to bear.

When he awoke, stars were falling to the earth before him like a soft, spring rain. They were quiet and gentle, beckoning him to follow a trail they carefully created. He chased after them without question. They were more beautiful than anything he had seen before, and they were singing gentle lullabies. They were brimming with life, hope, and joy. He wanted to be with them forever.

Alric was not dead, but his life had began anew. He was one with the stars for eternity, protecting those who turned their gaze to the skies. He was no longer a boy, but a graceful bird. He was no longer Alric, but Sterne.
