The twin souls Hugin and Munin
Fly out each day over the earth
I fear that Hugin will not return
Yet more anxious am I for Munin
— Odin

Ever Thinking
Ever Forgetting

Hugin was once the confidant of the Allfather, Odin, and the ever present companion of his other half, Munin. The paired crystal white ravens would each perch a shoulder of the god king, whispering secrets into his cavernous mind. Each day the twins would soar the heavens and survey all below before returning home, and Hugin was content with this pattern. However, with time came change, for his twin was ravaged by fury of the lightning god, and her feathers charred like coal and soot to the blackest shade of night, a dark to rival his light. This act felt like betrayal to the pair who had been most loyal. The one true friend the ravens held dear, Slepnir, could do nothing to help ease their mistrust and fear. Yet the ravens could not leave the selfish god. Odin could command and they must stay. In mischief or pity, Slepnir's father, Loki, set them free to wander the world and see what they could see.

Their story was not to thus end happily. Without the pattern of eb and flow, how they would once wander and return, Hugin and Munin grew lost. The day came that, in their confusion, they were separated, and this was the crux of their downfall. Without Hugin, Munin could only retrace her past. Without Munin, Hugin forgot his past. They both feel their souls crying out to one another. The constant pain, like the tuggin of heartstrings, echoes in each of their minds throughout every moment. Munin knows that she must find her brother. However, Hugin, lost to the world and most lost to himself, can not hold in his mind what he is forgetting.

So Hugin wanders the world alone, not knowing why he feels incomplete. He knows only the name Munin, and that she was once important to him. He has no memories of who she was to him, or what their past was together. It is in this manner that he finds himself watching everyone he comes across, helping those he meets, hoping that perhaps they might be who he seeks. He has seen the rise and fall of small tribes and great nations, and he has aided peasants and princes. Still, he has not found her.

One clue follows him everywhere he travels. One sign that seems left by someone always a step ahead. Markings etched into stone, a mural snarling from the wall, a sigil worked into armor or heraldry. Left behind, prevalent, for an unknown reason, apparently just for him. One clue: Bad Wolf. It seems the seeker is not the only searcher. As the crow flies, he is being hunted.
