YOU COME FIRST

In 2014, when a (zombie) virus outbreak plagues the earth, Helen escapes the lab she calls home. The lab is destroyed in an explosion, along with her creator, 'the scientist'.

Helen lives as a survivor, searching for other healthy humans, but forced to keep her identity secret at risk of certain experimentation and death. She blends in easily as human. The only clue to her identity is tattooed on the back of her neck: the number I, marking her as the first of her kind.

The Imprimis, known also as 'Helen', is the first in her order. The first to be... created. And the last to survive. Before the apocalypse of 2014 (refer to Leroy, Francesca, Warner), humans had been a powerful race, but in one fell swoop, a virus wiped out over 95% of their kind, leaving few remaining survivors, and leaving centuries of civilisation to fall into decay and ruin.

Earlier, much earlier, a scientist had devoted his life to creating the perfect female; immune to illness and disease, with the ability to conceive human children and pass on their DNA, creating perfect children, and spawning a race of perfect humankind. Each female created was named Helen, after Helen of Troy, the most beautiful woman on earth.

Of course, to play God is a risky game, and there were many failures with both the Helens and the children that were born by them. The Imprimis was the first of many children, born in 1998.

The initial Helen was different though; where her successors had died, she lived on, growing healthy and strong. It seemed that Helen I had been a minor success, and as The Imprimis grew she was taught calculated skill sets including self-defence and detailed biological science.

The success was short-lived. Helen I and those who came after her produced no 'children'. Eventually, only the Imprimis remained: funding was pulled and the nonfunctional Helens were destroyed.

When the virus hit, Helen quickly became a coveted commodity; if immune to all disease, she could hold the potential cure to the virus. Disguised as 'the scientists' assistant, only 16 years old, she managed to escape at the cost of her creators life.

After the fall of the laboratory, Helen knows that she must hide as a human survivor, her primary goal to fulfil her purpose: she must conceive a child and pass on her immunities.
