Human Avatar

In order to make your human avatar, just click on Wardrobe in the Preferences area of the left panel. Your first step will be to create the initial person. Then you can choose your gender, skin color, hair style, hair color, eye style, eye color, mouth style and nose style. After you choose these options, click on Create Avatar and you will then have your base avatar ready to dress up. Of course in order to dress your avatar you will first need clothing items to put onto it. You can purchase items from the main shops, or from user shops. Some of the items found in the Clothing Rack, Accessory Bin, and Sole Train can be purchased in user shops cheaper. Other more rare items will be more expensive in the user shops. It all depends on the rarity and the demand for the item. The higher the rarity and demand, the more expensive it will be when purchasing the item from a user.

Here are a few shops where you can start to build your wardrobe:
Clothing Rack
Sole Train
Accessory Bin

Most of the other shop contain wearable items also, but the ones listed above are the main ones. Subeautique sells only wearable items, but those are more expensive, ranging from 30k to 100k per item. Some books from the Book Nook are wearable. Icy Goods has bear beanies, arm warmers, and leg warmers. The Balloon Hut is full of wearable balloons. I'm sure you'll quickly realize that you can find wearables in almost any shop you visit. Once you purchase clothing for your HA you can put it into your wardrobe by clicking on the article of clothing while it's in your inventory and then clicking on 'Move To Wardrobe'. The items will automatically go into the layer category that it fits into. Below are the layer categories.

Backdrop - This is background for your HA. This includes wearable books and bottled waters.
Ankles - This includes things such as socks, leg warmers, and thigh highs.
Feet - Here you have tennis shoes, jackboots, flipflops, and slippers.
Bottom - This includes skirts, pants, and bathing suit bottoms.
Legs - Here are tails and serpent bodies.
Waist - This includes belts, tails, some skirts, and hipscarves.
Fingers - Balloons, hobby hikeis, and rings can be found here.
Hands - This includes hooks, gloves, fans, and bags of friendship.
Arms - This includes regal and lolita sleeves, arm warmers, handcuffs, and handbags.
Back - This includes wings and back packs.
Body - This includes full dresses and/or outfits and body morphers.
Chest - Here you have corsets, bikini tops, dresses, and bras.
Overchest - Here are the capes, shrugs, jackets, and coats.
Neck - This includes neckties, charms, collars, and necklaces.
Face - Here are the masks, earrings, and glasses.
Head - This is where you can find the head sashes, visors, hair bows, and head morphers.
Hat - Here are the hats, tiaras, beanies, and head bands.

You may only wear one item from each layering group at one time. This doesn't limit you much at all though considering there are so many options to choose from. There is no wrong way to dress your HA. It's completely up to you. As you gain more wearable items, you can come up with all sorts of unique looks. NOTE: There is a way to do a double layering allowing you to wear two items from the same category. You can read this guide here.
