Excerpts from the memory chip unit "Dream_Journal.doc" of Rveciel.

PART I
Rveciel, the Humanoid Robot

...this here, is my story. It makes me sad to relive the moments, but for you, and only you, I will tell the story of my creation and life, and of my beloved Master.

I, myself, have no emotions, for I am a mere robot. However, my creator bestowed upon me the knowledge of emotions, which greatly confuse me indeed. However, this gave me the power to read the dreams of humans in their sleep. Such a terrible, unprecedented power. With the ability to also judge right from wrong, Master made a great mistake - he planned to use me to conquer and control the world itself. I read that dream.
I determined it was wrong.

Wrong must be eliminated from this world.

However, one part of me refused to eliminate Master. I felt emotions that I had never felt before. My processor described them as betrayal and confusion. Those words meant nothing to me. I tried to believe that I was never programmed to do such evil deeds, but my CPU told me to erase Master.

"No...no I refuse...Master...MASTER!"

Thud. Before I knew what had happened, I found myself lying on the ground. My knowledge told me that I had encountered an error and should consider rebooting. That could wait until later. Finally, my eyes set upon the grave scene that I had never hoped to see - the dying body of Master.
I tried to deny reality, but I am a robot. I can't see anything but reality. And of course, Master was unconscious, so I could read his dreams. Finally, I realized his plan - to control the world and create a utopia for...a girl?

Drip, drop.

Tears?! I am a robot...a mere scrap piece of animated metal. How can I have tears to cry? Something must be wrong. Just who was this girl? Such a strange existence. I cannot comprehend...this emotion. Regret? Or was it Jealousy? Master had loved someone other than me. Someone is more important than me. Me, the one beloved of Master.

But wait, what would I do to that person once I found out who they were? Would my wrong elimination program go against my will and erase and innocent again? Or was Master not guilty, like my processors told me? I could not rewrite my program, nor change the contents of my processor. Master died with the key that locked my memory. It was only read/write, but could not be rewritten. I must go find that girl, and ask her the truth about Master, and the reality of my existence. I must find out at all costs, even if it meant disguising myself as a human being...

I tried to find in my memory what a normal human being looked like. It was hard to describe. Human beings are delicate and complicated. I found some of Master's clothes and put them on. The processor told me that they looked hideous, but I looked human nonetheless. I packed as many batteries into a bag as I could. They were nuclear batteries that would allow me to keep going for up to 10 years, but they were non-rechargeable.
I also took some money for myself. I would only last longer if I got myself equipped with state-of-the-art technologies, and the crappity old hardware that was installed in me wouldn't last long enough for me.

However, as soon as I left the shop, I saw my own image...

...a wanted poster? I was wanted. Dead or alive.

But I'm technically dead already. I wasn't alive to begin with. How silly of human beings. Trying to kill something that has already been killed. No wonder the race is coming to such a drastic conclusion.

I had no idea the news had spread. That I was the murderer of my own creator. My processor read the poster and understood what the numbers meant. That was my bounty. The highest in the world. I felt a moment of pride as I gazed more at my own picture. Such a face I had on. This picture was probably taken when I was created, before my hard drive and memory chip were inserted. Such an innocent, puzzled look I had.

But no, this was not the time to admire myself. I must flee or I would be caught. I walked calmly to the nearest train station and used some of Master's money to buy a train ticket to the city. In Jade City, the center of the continent, I was sure that I'd find a clue about Master and the strange girl. The girl's face and stats had been etched into my memory, so I would never forget.

Jade City was rumored to be the most rich yet most poor city in the world. Many noble families chose the place as their home, and the city boasted clean streets, thousands of shops, and a stable economy. The backstory was different. Not many know that the city also houses nearly ten thousand homeless in its slums. Crime and murder scenes were everyday life. However, that was the place I wanted to go. Among those homeless, Master had known a person who called himself Qa. Qa was one of the forbidden race, a robot that had obtained a souls' container and became a living organism. With a soul, he had become just like a living person, but he was lacking one thing - time. In exchange for becoming human, one must give up one thing - time. He had no life limit. He was able to live forever, but as a mere human.

"Death" did not exist for him. That is the guy I'm looking for.

I heard long ago that he had conducted some forbidden experiments involving making soul containers. These were forbidden throughout the world - if robots found out about their existence, the whole human race could meet its end. They were mechanisms that allowed a robot to possess a substitute soul. Thus, they were called "soul containers."

However, these were not to be fooled around with. One slight mistake in the placement of the soul container could mean complete data corruption and formatting of all hard drives. In short, the robot would become a complete cabbage, rendered completely useless. And if I haven't mentioned before, anyone who entered Jade City was required to have a soul. This kept robots out of the city. So far, there have been no robots who have made it into the city, because either their soul containers failed or their looks betrayed them. I hoped I wouldn't end up like them. Master had made me exceptional, as close to a human being as possible. Years and years of programming had made my voice sound perfectly human, and careful surgeries have made me seem human-like. My perfection reminded me of Master, who had been my admiration. But Master's utopia - would I be able to create it?

PART II
Qa, the Forbidden One

After a few days of searching, my sensors finally picked up a strange signal. A robotic yet humanoid one. I guessed that this was probably Qa, so I boldly walked up to the rotton wooden door and knocked three times, sharply. A young boy who looked age six or seven opened the door and said,

"Hello there, do you need anything, Madam?"

I blushed. I had never been called a Madam before. Then, I asked promptly, making sure that no one was around to hear the conversation,

"Is this the house of Qa?"

The boy suddenly grabbed me with a strength that matched my own. I was dragged into the house, and the door seemed to shut and lock on its own. We flew down what seemed like dozens of flights of stairs and through many, many doors until we reached a dimly lit room.

"That name is not to be mentioned in this place, Madam."

"Why is that?"

"He is a fugitive. The government is looking for him. Other than Rveciel, his bounty is the highest the world has ever known."

I gazed down at my feet. My bounty was the second highest in the world. I didn't know whether to cry or laugh, so I did neither. Instead, I asked the boy,

"Boy, what's your name?"

The young boy looked at me for a bit, and found my model-mark on the back of my neck. He gave a sigh of relief, laughed a bit, and said to me,

"Ah, so you're the Rveciel."

I immediately got into an attacking position. This boy's voice suddenly seemed malicious... Even though this boy seemed to be a robot, I knew that the government used some robots to catch fugitives and robots seeking soul containers. Best be on guard rather than get caught and executed on the spot.

"Oh, no need to be frightened, Madam. I'm Qa, the Forbidden One. I'm glad that we could meet. Please sit down. I'll recharge ya."

I sat down onto an extremely soft chair and looked around the room. It seemed to be a lab. Just as I had been told, Qa had been experimenting with soul containers. Though I had never imagined that his robotic body had been created in the form of a six-year-old boy.
Qa came in with new wires and new nuclear batteries for me. I quickly loaded them and gave my thanks.

"So, Rveciel, what brings you to me today?"

I was unsure of how to answer that.

"I came for...a soul...con-..."

Qa immediately frowned.
"Madam, you surely don't want to..."

I suddenly felt bold and said a little louder,
"I want...a soul container. I want to become human!"

Qa gave a thoughtful look, then reached behind the table and opened what seemed to be a secret compartment. I leaned in my chair to see what item was in his hand.

Gold? Was a heart container made from gold?

"Rveciel, you do understand the price of obtaining the soul for the soul container?"

I looked at Qa, puzzled. He sighed, and continued.

"This is an antique accessory. It belonged to a certain lady named Nura. Have your sensors scan it and you'll understand."

I held the tiny, beautiful trinket in my hand. It was a thing of beauty - probably made by a greatly talented craftsman. My sensor did sense something, so I let myself go into read mode.

Qa's memories? In here?

PART III
The price of a Soul Container

This happy little boy. Is that Qa?

Perhaps he was the creation of some famous scientist too. He looks just like he looks now - still the pale, childish face, dimples and all. But there was something different about him; he seemed...passive, almost dead. He was suspended in a capsule filled with a fluid similar to the type that robots were developed in. His listless eyes were staring straight forward.

On a closer look, Qa looked different from the robots I had seen and known in my life. He looked more...human-like, possessing features that only humans have. Yet, it was clear that he was a robot from the various mechanical parts that hung from him.

The scientist in question walked into the room of the capsule. He took a striking resemblance to my Master. A group of researchers and scientists clad in white robes walked in behind him, with the last one pushing a cart on which a grotesque-looking module was laying.

All of the sudden, Qa seemed to wake up. His eyes were revived with a flash of light, and immediately he began to pound on the thick plexiglass in which he was held.

The head scientist noticed the rebellious child, and remarked "Oh look, our boy is excited for his soul container!"

Soul Container? The object on the cart was a soul container? Why was Qa rejecting his soul?

Another flashback occurred. This time, Qa was sitting amidst a flower field. The view shifted behind him, where a young lady was sitting. It was clear that she was a true human being, delicate and vulnerable. On her neck, something flashed in the bright summer sun - it was the butterfly trinket.

But that was irrelevant compared to the face that slowly came into focus. I gasped.

It was my own.

I immediately withdrew from read mode.
"Qa, why am I within your memory?-"

"That is Nura, the wife of your Master...and my birth mother."

PART IV
The Revived Family

It could not be. I could not comprehend what was going on. Why would Master have created me in the image of his beloved wife? And why was it that he wanted to create a utopia for this lady? He had never mentioned anything about his wife or child, and the data he had never been input into my memory.

"Yes, Rveciel, I am a robotic reincarnation of Nura's son, Yurien. Qa is derived from Qarin, Nura's maiden name. It was the name of the program installed in me."

"Why would he..."

"To hide the fact that I was gone."

"What?!"

"My father, your Master, worked for a government organization that tried to prove the Frankenstein Theory. Yes, in terms, they were trying to revive the dead through use of technology, and control them through the use of mechanical parts and memory chips."

"But what does that have to do with Yurien's...your death?"

"...Yurien was kidnapped by the organization when he was five."

I did not understand why I was feeling this emotion of "pity" toward the child now.

"It was to keep my father in check. They needed a subject for the soul container project, and it was decided that I was the perfect material."

"That was you inside the capsule?"

"Yes, that was even before I had completely transferred into a robotic state. I still possessed my own soul at that time. But before then, my father, in order to comfort Nura, had created the robot named Qa to hide my disappearance. To him, I was good as dead."

"But he could have tried to save you at least..."

"He really couldn't, and I don't blame him. The organization was not something a single scientist could put a fight up against. Due to his insubordination on the soul container project, the organization had decided to put him to complete ruin, and erase his existence. That is when they decided that Yurien would be the subject, and Nura would be used for the soul."

Suddenly, everything came together.

"And then Master created me...to replace Nura?"

Qa silently nodded.

"Mother."

A voice activation program triggered within me, opening a data encryption program that had been sleeping within me for decades. I became paralyzed.

"Mother, it is time that I return this to you."

Qa had opened up part of his chest and taken out a sealed container that seemed to be filled with the element of light itself. With much struggle, he placed it where my heart was meant to be.

"I love you."

With a final flash of light, Qa slumped to the ground, robotic and lifeless.

Then, with a jolt of pain, my memories rushed back.

"Yurien! Oh Yurien, my son!"

I had become human again. The sense of touch tingled my fingers as I lay them upon Yurien's pale, beautiful face.
