What makes you different

I was introduced to the Backstreet Boys in 1996, when I saw the music video for I’ll Never Break Your Heart on either MTV or the Swedish music channel ZTV. Can’t remember which channel exactly as I used to flip between the two quite regularly back then when I came home from school. The channel is less important though. What is important is that it was the start of my fandom of the band. And I have been a fan ever since. It’s true that I don’t listen to them quite as much anymore, but I still love their music. It certainly helped a lot that several of my classmates at that time also liked them. Especially two of the classmates that I got along the most with, and spent a lot of time with. It meant that I had someone to share my love for the band with.
Now, they were definitely not the only boy band that I liked to listen to at the time. But they were by far my biggest love. Bands like 98 Degrees, N*Sync, Ultra, Take 5, 5ive, O-Town and Westlife (to name a few) were mere footnotes in comparison to BSB. Backstreet Boys were the only one of the bands that I had posters on my walls of, as well as t-shirts, books, keychains and a whole lot more of.

I really like most of the songs that this group has released, but my list only has room for ten. So, there will of course be a list of songs that there wasn’t space for.

This song made my list because it is just such a nice one, with a beat that makes me think of relaxing in a hammock in the shade in summer. It has an easy going sound to it that is just a delight to listen to.

I love how it builds in the verse, to the release that is the chorus. And the chorus is just wonderful, and fun. It doesn’t even matter to me what they are actually singing XD

The Answer to Our Life

If with the previous song I didn’t really care what they were singing it’s the complete opposite with this one. I love the lyrics of it, especially the chorus. But the verses are very nice as well. And the music just helps to push the message home.

This is another one where I really like the lyrics, and the message in it. Such a powerful ballad. And I love how scaled back the music video is for it. Also, as someone that has always liked Kevin the most I love that he gets to sing on his own in the second verse ♥️

With this one it is definitely more the music that gets me hooked, but the lyrics are nice as well. But yeah, the beat and the softness of the guitars are literally music to my ears ;)

Shape of My Heart

This one secured itself a place in my heart the moment that I first heard it. It’s such a beautiful, and melancholy, ballad. It just speaks to me on so many levels. I especially love the lyrics of the second verse where A.J. sings “Sadness is beautiful, loneliness is tragical”. So poetic it hurts.

To me this one is such a classic BSB song. And another one that is beautiful and melancholy. The fact that they dedicated it to the late Denniz Pop just makes it more meaningful to me.

In third place we have another classic BSB song. And this is a song that I have sung along to a lot over the years. I even have a specific memory of me and a friend sitting and waiting to be let into a place and singing it aloud where we were sitting. We were mostly seeing if we could remember all of the lyrics, but it was fun nonetheless :)

I mean, if the previous song is a classic one then this one is even more so. This one is so quintessentially BSB that is hurts XD
I just love everything about it. But especially the beat, and the melody of it ♥️

And then we come to my absolute favorite song with this band. And it’s one that wasn’t even released in my country. Well, it was probably on the official soundtrack of The Princess Diaries, but I’ve never even watched that movie so why would I buy the soundtrack? XD
Anyway, I love the lyrics more than anything else. I have always loved lyrics like this and this song being sung by BSB just makes it even better to me. A homerun, slam dunk or whatever other sports term you want to insert here ♥️

Makes you beautiful

I have always loved pop songs. More so when I was a teenager than now, but they are still dear to me. And the boy band craze of the 90s and 00s did not pass me by untouched. It grabbed ahold of me and had me in its grip for a long time. And in a way it still does, since I still love this band as much as I do. And, truth be told, I still love the other bands that I mentioned at the start as well. And listening to their songs is not just nostalgia for me, even though there is certainly that too. I really do like their music. I still smile, and sing along, whenever I hear one of their songs being played. Doesn’t matter if it’s on the radio, or somewhere else.
And I’m glad that this band, in particular, is still going strong. That they are touring, and still making new music. I, for one, am looking forward to listening to more of their music as they make it ♥️
