Octavian came from a poor, lowborn background. He spent his childhood years in the slums of Casterly Rock, where every day was a struggle to survive. In his teens, however, he learned to play the noble game of Cyvasse from a gang member. He started playing the game as often as he could, eventually becoming a master at the game. People from far and wide came to duel the Cyvasse champion, but none could defeat him. Octavian gained vast riches from from bets and the likes. However, in the year 7996, Octavian's life would be forever changed. The King of The Rock, King Loren VII of House Lannister, a wealthy house, heard of this Cyvasse champion. A great player himself, he decided to duel the noble Champion Octavian. Loren, refusing to believe a simple lowborn could best a nobleman in a noblemans game, decided to give Octavian an ultimate challenge. Should Octavian lose, he would give everything he earned through his cyvasse games. If he were to win, however, Loren would abdicate and surrender his entire kingdom to Octavian. A foolish bet, as Octavian managed to defeat the king after a long and tiresome game. The people, having little real loyalty to Loren or the Lannisters, gladly welcomed the new King Octavian. He chose the name 'Nightray' as his housename, in reference to the man who originally taught him the game.
The new king found it surprisingly easy to rule an entire kingdom. He said that it was just like playing Cyvasse, only on a larger scale, with more resources to spend. He was known to be a very diplomatic ruler, having learned many lessons about diplomacy and political strategy during his Cyvasse games. After marrying the fair Lady Brenna of House Wylde, a large wedding feast was thrown, and a couple of months after the wedding, the lady birthed Octavian's heir to the throne, Tavish Nightray.
His rule was, however, largely uneventful. There were a few peasant rebellions because of tyrannical smaller lords, but nothing large-scale, like a Nightray-Lannister Civil War. However, one event stands out; Octavian's search for a blade forged out of famed Valyrian steel. After an old man gave him a map that showed the location of a blade, he and his friend Ser Fashbinder set out with a crew and a ship to find this blade. However, distaster struck, and the ship went down in a storm, leaving only the King and Ser Fashbinder alive. After trekking through thick jungle and an ancient temple, he finally found the glorious blade hidden within said temple. He had the blade reforged into having a blue sapphire worked into the grip, and the hilt was reshaped to look like the head of an eagle. He then named it 'Talon', and has since gone down his bloodline for generations.
King Octavian lived for several more decades, until finally dying of natural causes at the ripe old age of 69 years, with his wife joining him in the afterlife a few months later. After his demise, his son, Tavish Nightray, ascended the throne.
