The sun broke the horizon in a blaze of color. The millions of members of the Dew Drop Clan cracked their eyelids and smiled as the warmth of the sun turned the edges of their bodies to rainbows and warmed the magical water that was their life blood. Every day was a chance for adventure and a promise of excitement. Since the dawn of time they had secretly traveled the waterways of Subeta, dancing in the current of Riverside, surprising sleepy-eyed fishers when they popped above the surface of Veta Lake and daring each other to roll over a section of Arctic Frost without getting frozen.

Nobody knew how the enchantment had started. Some said it was through the benevolent magic of Tempest long before she started sharing her bear hugs with the average citizens of Subeta. Others claimed it was through the forgetful antics of the Old Wizard when he mistook a bottle of Shinwa's tears for the Essence of Phoenix he needed for one of his spells.

Whatever the truth of their origins, the Dew Drops adore their lives as animated drops of water. They can take a direct blast from the volcano of Darkside, dissolving into mist and reforming high up in the sky. They can ride the lightning of a storm right down into the depths of the ocean and get a good look at the treasures lost off the coast of Omen Islands. (Sometimes they'll even do a favor for treasure seekers if they're treated with kindness.)

Most Dew Drops thrive on thrills and dream of seeing every corner of Subeta but there is one very special young Drop that has a different sort of goal in mind.

This is her story.

Dew Kiss yawned so wide that a bug flew into her mouth. It sloshed around, making her giggle with its ticklish little legs, popping free at the base of her liquid sphere to shake the water from its wings. The bugs had always been special friends of D.K. She was especially fond of fireflies because they gladly help her on her self-declared quest.

D.K. was born in the largest natural field of wildflowers on the surface of Subeta. Botanists estimate there are well over sixty species of flower growing naturally in the rich soil of the open field between Veta Lake and Riverside. Everything from Antlephore's Hoof to Zasaba Wingtip Lillies burst forth in glorious splashes of color.

When D.K. was a newborn Drop barely larger than your pinky fingernail, she swore to her parents that she would find a way to kiss the face of a thousand flowers in the field and bless them all with just a touch of magic.

She uses every trick she can dream up to reach new clusters of plants. She rolls up the tall blades of grass and throws herself on the clothes or fur of unsuspecting Subetans just passing through. She sings happy songs to lure small clouds down near the ground, leaping into their middles and riding the rainfall down among her thrill-seeking cousins.

Hers is a peaceful life, for the most part. There is always tension during the season of Vesnali when well-meaning Subetans go looking for any flowers they can find to shower their friends with pretty blooms. D.K. relies on her many insect friends to swarm those naughty explorers too impatient to wait for flowers to float on the breeze and find them. Though many have tried, not a single person has succeeded in stealing so much as a blade of grass from the fields of D.K.

When winter's chill is in the air, she trickles down and hooks herself to a convenient root, exchanging her life-giving magic for a safe place to hibernate until the sweet warmth of spring calls her above the ground once more.
