Lin were wandering in the forest that late afternoon, passing her eyes through the sky that was getting a darker tone with the forthcoming night. She found an old stump and sat there to rest a little after her watch time and raised her head once again to the sky analyzing the appearing stars. Looking for something.

She saw that countless times: the Mizami; a fire bird that traced the sky once a year to bring good or bad luck in small pieces of paper on its claws, the bird was even more important to warriors like her that needed to know the sacred news in order to prepare themselves to the worst from the enemies. All the story and phenomenon was so stunning and important that no one even bothered the others about the origins of the creature, the city was enclosured for 3 days for the festival while everyone where preparing themselves for the so waited passage. Now it was almost the end of the year, and the great day would be in four days. Lin watched the stars with calm expectation until the sun finally set down and the moon announced that it was time to go back home to get ready for the enclosure of the city

Lin were almost reaching the outer walls of the city when she heard a beautiful sound, like a sing of a bird. She frowned the eyebrows, a bird at night?. It could be a chick that fell the nest so she decided to check what was going on. Behind a bush she found a couple of burned feathers tangled in the twigs. Ahead from the bush few more fethers were found, some burned and others untouched, all the trail leading to a a secluded area of the grove, but no sign of the owner of the cheep.
Lin followed the trail all long until she found a huge hole on the ground. Stairs and supports made of wood and ropes drawing a way down to the not so deep bottom. That definetely was not told to her by her superiors of existence, and there was no way unorganized bandits would have done that in a so short period of time, Lin discovered that same place of the grove just few days ago intact.

She was breaking the rules for entering an area where she was not designated to patrol, but she saw no one all her way to there and something was definetely wrong, mainly so next the festival. Lin made her way down and unsheated the twin swords checking what was possibly waiting for the intruder. After few tense minutes crouching in the total darkness trying to hear anything human the same cheep could be heard from behind a pile of wooden boxes. Lin noticed that was just a disguise to a hidden place like a cavern. Once found a fire source she had just dropped the torch on the ground shocked at the scene.
A group of silver pheasants where trapped in tight cages, in a place that appeared more to a deposit over a aviary. Between the cages dozens of barrels with oil and material to lit fire where to be found.
No time was given to process what was happening when suddenly a camouflaged door opened behind her and from there a tall man with the warrior's appearel. Both stared to each other in surprise until Lin threw her black sword to the man, who dodged it and invested against her in a desperate movement to contain her, but Lin delivered a deep cut on his right arm and with a switch ofthe grip on the sword she struck man's head with the hilt, letting him groggy on the floor while she grabbed a rope to tie the stranger.

Suddenly the fight felt heavier that it actually was. One cage fell in the ground during the conflict liberating the pheasant, but the other ones where scared and agitated trying to open their wings. All these years they literally burnt pheasants alive to death just to give people false hopes that something sacred where happening, and even Lin didn't know what to do with that because she believed too.
The most sad part is that she could not face the sanctuary directly, it would wear her off of any chance to stand at the job and any possible future jobs. She opened all the cages and lit fire on everything then, with a promisse to back next years to open the cages again.
