It was one day after my birthday, and I was at work. We were quiet over the afternoon breaks while doctors and staff go to lunch, and not much was going on. I was sitting at my phone desk when I heard a commotion up front, and saw the admit receptionist bringtwo people into an exam room and rush their cat to the treatment area -- a walk-in emergency. The clients were in a room right by my desk, and I could hear the doctor talking to them about their cat. He had been hit by a car and was in a lot of pain. The doctor wanted to discuss getting him started on pain medications and diagnostics. His owners, however, had other plans.
"He's a terrible cat," they stated. "He bites and he screams and he whines. Whenever he's bad, we throw him outside, so it's no wonder he got hit by a car. We don't want to spend money on him - we don't even like him. Is there a place we can just bring him to and leave him?"
The vet was astounded by their callous behavior towards this cat, and asked them to sign him over to the clinic. We would make sure he received the care he needed and adopt him out. The owners readily agreed. They paid for his initial exam fee, signed him over, and left - and were told to never come back.
Curiosity finally got the better of me, and I headed to treatment to see this supposed terrible cat. What I saw was a young, beautiful Lynx-point Siamese mix with the brightest, biggest blue eyes. And when his eyes met mine, it was love at first site. He was destined to be mine.

In August 2025, Robin was diagnosed with Hypersomatotropism. He had developed a tumor of his pituitary gland that secreted excess growth hormone and caused acromegaly. Robin's acromegaly had caused him to develop heart disease, severe insulin resistance, and pica, on top of having gastrointestinal disease. On November 19th, we made the heartbreaking decision to say goodbye to our beloved boy due to his diseases. He was only 11 years old. Robin had so much life, so much to give, and his little body simply failed him and couldn't keep up with him anymore.
Robin, you were the light of my life, one of the most wonderful cats I've ever known. I will miss you forever.
