You fight me and I fight back

My introduction to this band happened during the Swedish outtakes for the Eurovision Song Contest 2023. They were one of the competitors and basically the only entry of the year that had any kind of rock-vibe to their song. Which is always a nice refreshing break for me amongst all of the pop songs that usually compete each year for the honor of representing our country in ESC that year.
The moment I heard the song for the first time I was in love. And then I started listening to the rest of the music that they’ve released over the years, and I was a fan straight off the bat.

Now, there won’t be a list of honorable mentions for this band because, as with Avicii, I don’t dislike any of the songs that they have made. So, the honorable mentions would basically just be a list of all the songs that didn’t make it to the top ten. And that feels unnecessary to me XD

Wake Up
Smash Into Pieces - Arcadia

This song has an infectious hook that I love. And it’s got great lyrics in addition to that hook. A very nice blend of rock and electro indeed.

Higher
Smash Into Pieces - Higher

The lyrics of this one is what grabs me the most. Although I do like the sound as well. Definitely more on the rock side, which I appreciate.

Forever Alone
Smash Into Pieces - Arcadia

The sound of this song…? I absolutely love how much it sounds like a synth song from the 80s. And then the chorus really pumps things up and just brings it to another level for me.

This song had my interest from the get-go, for the simple reason that they have a saxophone intro. I love saxophones. A lot. Any song that has saxophones in it will get a thumbs up from me. And the fact that the rest of the song is great as well, is of course a plus too ;)

Just like with All Eyes On You on this list I love the country sound they have on this song. And I also love that it’s got a heavier vibe to it during the chorus.

Not only does it have a great sound, and nice lyrics, but I also love the subject matter of this song. I love vikings and that is exactly what this song is about ♥️

Not Waiting For Heaven

This is probably the most pop sounding song of theirs that I’ve listened to, especially during the verses, but that’s not something that I hold against it. It’s still a great song and I honestly welcome the softer sound of the verses, but it’s definitely during the chorus that this song really comes to life.

The heavy beat and lyrics are what does it for me with this one. A lot of the songs this band has done have lyrics that I love listening to. And this one is no exception :)

All Eyes On You

I absolutely love the almost country-like sound to this song. And how the song really picks up during the chorus to then slow down in the verses.And once again it’s a song that has great lyrics. And the raspiness of Chris’ voice is just pure delight to me. Especially in this song.

Six Feet Under
Smash Into Pieces - Six Feet Under

Ah, the song that started my love affair with this band. And the song that I love more than any other from them. Not only is it a great song all on its own, but I also get a bit of a Linkin Park feel from the song, which is a wonderful thing for me. And that also adds an almost nostalgic vibe to it that only adds to my love for it even more ♥️

We get up and we do it again

The fact that this band describes their music as electro-rock makes it very clear to me why I love their music. I love rock/metal and I also love electro music, such as EDM and house. And then that some of their songs has an 80s synth-pop vibe to them only makes it that much better in my mind.
I’m glad that they were able to be seen by a broader audience by competing in Melodifestivalen, since I know that they’ve had some rough years before. I hope that things change for the better for them now. I’m just sad that they did not get to represent Sweden in the ESC 2023. They were by far my favorites, and it would have been a refreshing change for this country to finally send something other than pop songs to represent us, and our current musical scene.

Either way, I’m hoping that Smash Into Pieces will exist for a long time to come, and that they will keep producing music that people will love (myself included) ♥️
