The echoes of eternity

It was John “Totalbiscuit” Bain that introduced me to Miracle of Sound when he talked about him on one of the episodes of the Co-optional Podcast. He said that Gavin made music that he really liked and I then decided to look him up, and I’ve been a fan ever since. I love that he makes songs with games, movies and TV-shows as his common themes. And in many cases I love songs that are about things that I wouldn’t consume normally. Like, there are many games that he’s made songs about that I would never play myself, but I love the songs despite that. I would say that that is a testament to how great his music is.
It’s honestly very impressive how many songs he’s made so far. In the YouTube playlist that I made for the purpose of this pet I ended up having almost 200 songs. And since I really like a lot of his songs, there is going to be an extensive list of honorable mentions. So, without further ado, here is that list: My Odyssey, Valhalla Calling, Silver And Steel, Halfman’s Song, When I Swing By, The Crush, Onwards We Row, Take It Back, City of Night, Beyond These Walls, The Tale of Cú Chulainn, Neon Red, Payday, City of Dreams, Back To the Start, Redemption Blues, Starting Over, Ode To Fury, The Death of Rock n’ Roll, Deep Blue, Dream Again, Savior’s Seed, Upside Down, When the Wolves Cry Out, Into the Wild, Another Round of Gwent, Replica, Force of Nature, We Are War, Sovngarde Song, Pawns of War, A Natural Heart, The Path, Get the Gand Back, Skellige Winds, Here We Go Again, The Man Who Rocked the World, My Shooting Star, Evacuate, London Town, Lady of Worlds, Road Rage, I Want My RPG, Hard Cash, Paleblood Moon, Gráinne Mhaol Queen of Pirates, Friends, All As One, Welcome Home, Messing With the Best, Shadow of the Ash, Cries of A Dead World, My Revolution, Amnesia, The New Black Gold, Man And Machine, Breaking Down the Borders, RAMPAGE!!!, Drive, Higher Tonight, The Call, Niko It’s Your Cousin, Kickback, My Iron Skin, Dream of the Sky, Motor Girl, The Savage Side of Me, Hell In the Headspace, His Father’s Son, The Call of Duty Circus, Keep Drifting, Shadows In the Moonlight, Distant Honor, Khajiit Like To Sneak, Blood of the Creed, Hammer the Buttons And Wiggle the Sticks, You Died!, Legends of the Frost, Age of the Dragon and Calamity. Like I said, a long list indeed.

Valhalla calling me

And now we move on to my top ten songs by this artist. Starting with Wake the White Wolf in tenth place. Now, I mentioned earlier that there are a lot of his songs where I’m not a fan of the song because of the subject matter. But, that is not the case with this song. Here, I love both the song and the subject of the song. I mean, to me Geralt is just *chef’s kiss*
Moving on, we have Joker’s Song in ninth place. I’m…sort of a fan of Batman. I loved the Christian Bale movies, and Warner Bros old cartoon from the 90s. But, that’s about it. But this song is on this list because it reminds me of Heath Ledger’s legendary depiction of the Joker. Plus, I kind of agree with the lyrics.
In eighth place I have one of the songs that Dunne has written that isn’t a pop culture reference. It’s Hammers In My Head, and I just love it. It’s got a great sound, and good lyrics too.
In seventh place we have Shooter Guy. Now, this song is just pure fun. I love how it pokes fun at the FPS genre of games as a whole. All the tropes are in there and it’s hilarious, and oh so accurate.
Next up we have Roll Out, which of course is a Transformers song. Now, my sister has been a big fan of this franchise for many years now (since the early 90s) and thanks to her I have seen a lot of the stuff that she’s watched over the years. We both love the original 80s show the best, but there is some newer stuff that we don’t mind as well. And this song, well it is just great. So much nostalgia that I can’t help but smile and sing along every time I hear it.
In fifth place we have Going Nuclear. This one is a Fallout 4 song and I loved that game. It was the first game in that franchise that I played and it was a great time for me. And one of the things I loved when playing it was listening to the radio. I just loved those old songs. They just made me so happy. And this song is made to sound like those old songs. It’s got such a happy sound to it, despite being about going nuclear, which isn’t exactly a good thing.
In fourth place I have another one of his songs that isn’t a reference to any pop culture thing. The song is Every Time You Look Around. He calls it “Uplifting Epic Rock Music” and I couldn’t agree more. It’s a song that just makes me happy to listen to.

To pluck the strings of destiny

Moving on to the top three songs for me now. And first up we have Nord Mead in third place. Again, I loved playing Skyrim and this song is just a lot of fun and fills me with nostalgia and memories of playing it back in 2011-2012. Plus, I love the Nords because they are basically vikings ;)
In second place we have Beneath the Black Flag. I love vikings, but I also love pirates! A lot. And I love the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Saying that though, I never actually played the Black Flag one. But, I still love this song!
And last, but definitely not least, we have Show Your Style. And the fact that this song is my favorite song that Miracle of Sound has made, thus far, is a perfect example of how the subject matter doesn’t always matter to me when it comes to his songs. I have never played a single Devil May Cry game (and never will), but this song? I just…love it so much! The attitude of it is just so awesome. And the music is perfect. And just so much fun! The closest I’ve ever gotten to this game franchise is that I once watched Jesse Cox play through one of the games (I think it was either DMC 3 or 4), so I at least know that this song perfectly encapsulates Dante’s personality, and confidence.

Valhalla calling me

I’m a gamer at heart. And I love to watch movies and TV-shows. So, to me it’s not really all that shocking that I love the music that Gavin Dunne makes. I also love rock and metal music which also helps. But that’s not all he does. He has such a wide range of styles, which is also one of the reasons that I love his music. They don’t all sound the same, and that is so refreshing to me. But, you can still hear that it is a Miracle of Sound song that you’re listening to, no matter which one it is!
I just hope that companies release more stuff that gives him inspiration to make more songs, because I will be looking forward to seeing him post more new material in the future ♥️
