Selkee was born to a very young couple who were at the late end of their teen years. After being tossed out by their parents, the two of them struggled to support themselves and their newborn sun for three years and just failed miserably. They fought endlessly about how they could go on, about how they could take care of themselves and their son all at once. Finally, it was clear they just couldn't handle the situation, so they decided to give him up in the hopes that another family might be able to better care for him.

When they took him in, they were both assured that their child would be able to find a good home, and quickly. His mother reluctantly let him go into their care, but nothing went as planned. Selkee went through three homes while he was at the orphanage, but they kept sending him back and he just didn't understand why no one seemed to want him, including his birth mother. He kept hoping that one day his mother and father would just show up to take him home again.

By the time he reached age fourteen, Selkee had given up that hope. He'd started to think of the orphanage as his home, and he didn't want to leave. He knew all the other kids well and his best friend was always by his side. It was home, or as much of a home as he was going to have. Selkee lost his virginity to his best friend that year just before he was taken in as a foster child for the last time. He stayed with them for four years until he was eighteen years old. He had scrimped and saved enough to live on his own. Selkee went to college on a scholarship and studied chemistry. At twenty-three, he became a student teacher and later graduated and became a permanent teacher at the university which he'd been attending.

Ever since he lost his virginity, Selkee had been a shameless and almost pathological flirt. He dated multiple people, granted they all knew what they were getting into at the beginning, but as things went they left him one by one. He was terrified of being completely alone. He had no family, no real friends anymore, so his lovers were all he had left.

One afternoon on the beach, he met a young man named Haru. Selkee thought he was beautiful and they hit it off so well that they began to date. At the time, he had been seeing three others, but after some time Selkee realized that his heart really lay in Haru's hands. He broke it off with the others and proposed to Haru. They have recently moved in together to Haru's beach home and are quite happy.
