The door hisses open, chilly air gusting past. The diener loads their cargo onto a gurney, wheeling it away to its next destination. The examination suite isn't far away.
The body bag opens, and clicks are the dominant noise in the room as photographs are taken of the corpse. Another click announces the beginning of the recording, and two thumps as she steps upon her stool. In position, Roza speaks. "Wearing a pair of red pajama pants, nothing else."
Samples of his hair and fingernails are collected next. No other evidence appears, nor does the cadaver bear any other significant markings, so the body is slipped from the bag. Roza and the diener proceed with undressing and cleaning up the body, preparing for the next step.
Once the weight and measurement checks are done, the body is placed on the examination table once again. There is a shuffling noise as she reaches for her clipboard and the papers pinned upon it.
"Richard Krock, German-Italian male, age eighty three. Cropped hair." Here she pauses, speaking after a few seconds. "About a quarter of an inch long. Straight, vertical scar on his knee. Let's see, uh.. Yeah, knee replacement surgery at age seventy one. One tattoo on his shoulder, looks to be an image of a woman, says "Susan" underneath." Quieter than before, she gives a small "aww" and moves on.
"He was described as healthy, no major medical issues in his life. Last doctor's appointment appears to be about six months ago for a complaint of a recurring headache. Diagnosed as a head cold, they sent him home with orders for bed rest. Otherwise, nope, nothing. Found in bed by a visiting relative two days ago, dead on scene."
The clipboard is placed down with a 'clack', and fainter than before Roza and the diener have a brief discussion. It ends with her saying "Yep, time to open up".
The only noise for a time is the two proceeding with their internal examination, a procedure which is suddenly interrupted once the inner chest is exposed. A whistle rings out and Roza gives a small 'hmph'. "Yeah, that'll do it. Okay, stop here."
Louder now, she dictates again. "Chest cavity is filled with blood. We're taking a measurement now." A few minutes pass, and she speaks again. "Two point four pints. Probably stemmed from a heart attack. We're going to remove that now and check for a myocardinal rupture."
Ten minutes bring about the end of the exam. "Ah. Tear between the aorta and pulmonary trunk." The diener says, and Roza gives an affirmative. "Okay, that does it. This is a natural death, caused by a sudden heart attack that resulted in a myocardinal rupture. Poor guy probably never felt it in his sleep and the rupture did the rest. Let's clean this up."
The audio recorder is turned off. What has been removed is replaced, what has been cut is sewn. Richard Krock is placed back in a fridge as he waits for the funeral home to come and pick him up. The diener and Roza clean their equipment, and once they are finished and the room is sanitized again they share a glance. Roza gives a small smirk to her assistant.
"Onto the next, yeah?"
