Darkness fill the sky

Let the sun be shy

Stars peek out true

Making everything a nice blue

As gravity tugs at the waist

I must make my haste

For orange sits to the side

As the blue mixes with the tide

Darkness will find me again

And I will smile at its return...

Introduction

Chapter 1: When the Night Meets Us

There are many other galaxies in the universe; the Milky Way is only one. I'm not going to talk about the Milky Way today; I'm here to explain the story of Foo, or Stowae.

In a far-off galaxy called the Tricklemire galaxy, there are many planets with living creatures and inhabitants that equated to the human intelligence and dominance of the planet Earth. But instead of being one, there were many planets that held life. But all the dominant species originated from one place: the mother planet, Orsa.

Orsa was filled with mythical creatures humans only dreamed about: from unicorns to dragons, to elves and dwarves, to demons and mermaids. The dominant races were growing too large when Nuit's story begins.

Orsa was dying... Each planet's core was magic, and when too many magical creatures fed off of it, the planet would die. This was happening to Orsa, but the dragons sensed the change before its demise and gathered everyone to explain the problem.

“The planet is dying because we have too many species on Orsa. We need a population to move to another planet...” This was unheard of! When the angry whispers and gasps of outrage subsided, the dragon continued.

“We, dragons, know of a way to get one species from this planet to the next...It is called a World Portal Orb and it will transfer you to another planet. But we need a population to volunteer...” Everyone shuffled around: the dwarves all crossed their arms, sneering at everyone. The unicorns bowed their heads in thought, their vibrant colors blending in with the just as brightly-colored elves they were standing next to. The faeries, fluttering around, began to get nervous-their glitter kept scattering around as they paced in the air, wringing their tiny hands. The dragons were going to say something when the leader of the elves stepped forth, his white hair making his light blue eyes stand out as he stood tall in front of the intimidating dragons.

“We will do it, for I know the dragons would move but this has been their home for more centuries than the rest of us have lived and existed... We will move to this new land...” the dragons all bowed to them, but the faeries still were unsettled.

It was a few weeks later that the World Portal Orb, a dark red orb that had different colors of blue swirling in its depths, was finished. The leader of the elves took it and as all the elves pushed their power into the orb, they disappeared.

The faeries, witnessing this power, asked the dragons if there was some other way to move to planets...The dragons told of a tale when everyone could move from planet to planet easily by the planets' core magic. The faeries investigated this tale and soon found that they could pinpoint a certain planet that felt like themselves.

Its name was known as Fweedae, and the faeries bid farewell to the other species and made their way to Fweedae, an unknown force helping them along. On arrival, they found five-foot tall faeries, centaurs, dryads and halflings inhabiting the planet peacefully. The elemental faeries greeted their pixie faeries happily and taught them of how to turn into “humanoid” faeries, or into five-foot tall faeries. The new batch of faeries easily fit in and lived peacefully with the other species until one night, about a week after they arrived initially.

The second moon of Fweedae was just coming up to finish up the long night when a foreign noise caught the leader of the Orsa faeries, Shantu's attention. The planet was having a big party to officially welcome the pixies and so when Shantu flew off in her humanoid form, many of her faerie guard followed her.

Shantu was an ice faerie, very rare due to the fact most faeries that tended to go towards ice became water faeries. She was a sharp-minded faerie with a talent for finding a solution quickly. She had been the leader of the Orsa faeries for years and when the two faerie species joined, she became their second in command behind Grash.

Shantu's white hair shown brightly in the night sky as she heard that noise again: a small cry, almost like it was frightened. Her three personal guards fluttered behind her, one carrying a light in her hands, one holding a flame in his hands and the last searching below as a bird twittered on his shoulder.

“Hrwaaaah!” Shantu's green eyes immediately found the source of the noise below in the forest, diving as she heard the pathetic creature call out again. Somehow the creature sounded familiar to Shantu as she landed, a faerie light appearing in her hands. Her white flowing robe was illuminated by all the lights as she stepped forward, rustling coming from a nearby bush.

Then suddenly, a four-foot long (from head to tail) creature jumped out and tackled Shantu to the ground, both rolling as the other faeries cried out in alarm. Shantu easily maneuvered the creature below her before she stared in utter amazement at the baby- … dragon?- below her.

The baby dragon looked up at her with huge magenta eyes, blinking innocently as Shantu got off of her. This dragon was a sub-species of the dragons: they tended to be more low to the ground, had more rounded snouts, and their wings were tiny. They were called Fwantoc, in faerie, meaning “belly-crawling dragons”. Fwantocs might not be able to fly in their life-times but they sure had a powerful magic that made them a rarity even amongst the Fwantocs' main group. As with most dragons, babies only happen every decade or so...making their parents and species VERY protective of their babes.

“Oh, help us, Lady Shirnta....” the fire faerie, Mrand, pleaded as he broke the silence. Shantu stood stiff, wondering how the Fwantoc got here when she remembered something-

When the faeries were coming over to Fweedae, someone had been helping them...And since Fwantocs were known for their immense magic, this little girl might have been their little helper after all!

“Mistress Shantu, what do you want us to do? We can't go back to Orsa now that we've left and hand her back! They'll think we stole her!” the female light faerie, Lterae, anxiously said aloud, the baby dragon croaking out loudly, wagging her tail. Shantu held out her hand, and immediately the Fwantoc stood on her hind legs, rubbing her head gently against the extended hand before landing on her four feet again.

All the faeries stared at the … purring... dragon before Shantu shook her head dazedly, white hair falling into her face as she blew it out of the way.

“We can't take her back now... It's too late and we would be blamed by the people here for bringing a war to them, thus getting us disbanded from our new companions... We must turn her into one of us...” All the faeries gasped at that, the Earth faerie placing his hand against a tree as it reached out for him.

“That could get us killed, Mistress! We don't know-” But Ytau stopped as he got a stern look in return, the other two faeries pursing their lips together as Shantu ran her sharp, emerald eyes over her guard with a critical look.

“We have no choice! I do not want us to put our new home in jeopardy for this baby dragon's 'stowaway' move...” the three chuckled at her description of the now snoring Fwantoc.

“So, we call her 'Stowae',” Lterae announced, clapping her hands together before she cooed at the tossing creature.

“...'Stowae'? Nah! How 'bout Foo!” Mrand countered, both faeries glaring, their respective elements flaring around them before Ytau and Shantu stepped in, ice covering fire as trees stifled the light.

“She can be named both, okay? But for now, we need to change her as quickly and inconspicuously as possible...” The three guards nodded seriously as Stowae looked up at them, innocently cocking her head to one side as they surrounded her.

“Okay, repeat after me...” Shantu started, arms reaching forward as she splayed her hands, tendrils of white and blue magic rushing from torso to wrap around her outstretched fingers. The others followed suit, red, green and white joining the Mistress's colors.

Fwantoc, we find you on a cold night

When we, faeries, have finally found our place,

You have opened up a difficulty

We must try and fix...

So, please, take this gift of faeries

And let it seize the night

For all of us here/

Shantu paused as her conscience finally caught up with her and she looked down into wide magenta eyes that seemed to understand what was happening, even though the Fwantoc was so young. She opened her mouth, letting out a tiny breath of magic that sparkled in the air before it joined their outstretched hands. The colors of their magics mixed, creating a large ball of twirling colors. Shantu breathed in a breath before closing her eyes.

Turn Fwantoc to faerie

and let be the dragons not angry

For a tiny mistake

Let the night flow around us

As Fwantoc turns to faerie

To join us for our new life on Fweedae

Magic! Turn our Stowae into one of us!

The magic sparked as Shantu brought up her hand in a commanding pose, her eyes hard as the magic began to shake, bursting into tiny magic particles before a large explosion made magic fall all over Nuit.

Her magenta eyes closed as she slumped to the ground, her body unmoving as the colors blended into her black scales. But nothing happened further...little Foo just laid there, stiff. Just as the leader was going to kneel down in defeat, a dark blue light overtook the dragon's body before it flashed brightly, blinding all faeries present.

Then as the light dimmed, Shantu's green eyes widened to the point where they would pop out of her face as she suddenly turned into a pixie, flying around crazily as Stowae was revealed.

Mrand promptly fell over, passed out while Ytau put a hand over his mouth as he tried to breath. Lterae slumped to the ground, her hands covering her face as she confirmed what they all saw in front of them:

“We-we failed...”

Stowae floated in front of them, sparkling blue scales over her normally black body and big, gold faerie wings fluttering on her back as a long locks of gold hair dropped in front of her face. Sparkling gold tattoos decorated her neck, knees, forearms and tail as she bent her neck to press her nose lightly against Shantu's blurry pixie form. Shantu suddenly dropped into her humanoid form, panting as she looked up at the smiling dragon...faerie? There was no mistake that their magic had half-worked, but not fully. It seemed the Fwantoc could now fly-which made the dragon flying around them seemingly happy as she swished up and down. Her large feet and paws were still the same shape as was her body in general, though she looked utterly different.

“Okay... her own magic probably interfered, but there's nothing we can do about it now...we'll treat her as a … faerie, since she's at least half-way faerie herself now...” Shantu sighed heavily as Stowae breathed lightly over the oldest faerie, laughing as she twirled in the air.

“We might as well go back to the party and start explaining...” Shantu told her guard as Mrand was pulled to his feet and Lterae stood shakily on her own. They nodded, the little faerie dragon croaking happily as they ascended into the air with her befora Shantu protectively put an arm around Foo's neck, guiding her out of the trees as they headed back.

Stowae grinned behind their backs, fluttering her wings as true happiness crossed her face before she toned it down. And that's how Miss Stowae Foo came among the faeries and began her journey on the ever-changing planet, Fweedae.

Chapter Two

Revealing the Riddle

The day had started out okay-after all, the people of Fweedae agreed to allowing the Fwantoc-faerie to live upon their planet and to protect their own at any cost- even their newly-acquired baby dragon. Grash even commented on how unlikely the dragons were going to investigate the disappearance since Fwantocs died mainly in child birthing. How the leader of the faeries knew of such a thing made Shantu ponder, but they were clearly older than herself, so she didn't question their wisdom.

Anyway, Shantu was in her office-a light-colored tulip in the middle of the faerie grove- writing away at paper work when she heard a noise. As she peered through her tiny window to the rainbow of flowers in front of her, Shantu narrowed her eyes before going back to her leafy desk and chair.

Shantu just looked up when Stowae came bounding through the room, Lterae chasing after her. The ice faerie leader stood, her eyebrow twitching as she pointed at the baby Fwantoc. Ice caught Stowae in its cold grip as she skidded across the floor, gently bouncing of the tulip's side.

Ah, sorry, Mistress... Stowae really wanted to see you, apparently... The light faerie glared at the stumbling creature before picking the dragon up. Won't happen again, I swear... Shantu banished the ice from the clawed-feet before walking up to them and patting the Fwantoc's head.

Oh, no, it's okay... I needed a break anyway... I'm going to try to make her talk... Take a break, Lterae. I'll send for you if I need you back... the light faerie gave up Stowae, who clung to Shantu in response before Lterae disappeared up and out of the tulip.
