Until they met a being that had lost all the hope and willpower they carried around, a chained being, a rotten creature, still alive but completely devoid of every single emotion beside distrust. He was called EarthGreen, and there was nothing anymore to bring him back. He had no soul to host feelings as they brushed past him. He had the eyes of resignation and frost, the face of pain and torture. Their laughters died. They faced each other for a long time, the earthbound corpse and the free spirits. The two brothers freed him from his chains, hoping to break the seal that seemed to tie him to that spiritless state, but they knew somehow: he was not attached to anything else than the earth he was growing closer to every day, he was lacking something. He had no soul. He was, to be exact, nothing more than flesh and bone, fur and teeth and claws still razor sharp despite his state. He, locked away into the darkness of non-existence, was the only one to shatter their dream universe, he brought them down onto the earth with quite the rough landing. Just by looking at them, he had made them see how cruel this world could be. Their existence may have lost its carelessness, but it had gained a goal: a soul. It would be their quest for the future, their dream so to say. They would give everything to find and bring back that lost soul that was now wandering around that world. But they had too much to learn and too little time to do so, as they met with the one who'd be their downfall and destruction. A scattered shred of a ripped soul, a broken piece that was seeking chaos and panic. VoidBlack was torture and destruction, pain and rage. No pure wings and white fur would save them from this disease as the demon ripped one brother to shreds, leaving the other untouched but stained with blood, blood that poured into him until his eyes caught it, blinding him, burning him from the pain of losing what was precious to him. All he had. He spent a whole night and day next to the corpse, and when dusk came, he rose to his feet and went, alone, to carry on his brother's dream. He traveled for ages, loosing the sense of time, not caring anymore but fearing at the same time that one day death would take him. He was fully aware of his mortality, it was something new to him, something scary. He had chosen a new name, since he could no longer wear the other one, the one that only ringed when combined with his brother, his name that held the sound of eternity. He was no longer eternal, he was now as fragile as smoke, as the steam escaping a boiling pot, gone in an instant. SteamWhite was born from futility. How he learned, he did not remember, but at some point, he knew. VoidBlack was the source of his sorrow, and he would be the one to purge his suffers. He was the one that held the soul he had been searching for, the only way to fulfill his brothers dream. He had destroyed them and would be the one to bring them back together. Time flew, way to fast for him as he always feared to run out of it, until he finally sensed the murderous aura of his tormenter and goal, not knowing how to gain the spirit inside that body but determined to obtain it by any means. They fought three nights in desperation, blood once more staining his immaculate fur, only this time it was his own life that flew around him in the form of liquid droplets. VoidBlack didn't seem to have anything close to blood, but his spirit was leaking out of the body he occupied, and the white wolf like creature focused on that, tearing at his spirit shard until he collapsed, a grey form escaping him. SoulGrey came as a sign of victory. He was everything SteamWhite could no longer be. He was eternal, yet he did not smile nor laugh. He was indestructible, yet this only made him more grey and gloomy. He did not touch the ground his body was bound to, yet he craved for the weight he once had, the conviction to be alive. They traveled together, in search of a rotting corpse with the name of EarthGreen, in the hope of reuniting both body and soul for either immediate death or a bit more life. There are only pieces of living traveling together, one missing what bound him to the earth, the other what used to bind him to life. That the world could have changed that much over his years of searching, he would never have thought. They are still wandering now, not carrying hope but still searching, to fulfill a promise or to pass time.
