Yuma
The Solitary Forest Guardian

Slowly but surely, nature will overtake the lands it had once lost to humanity.

- - -

"I wouldn't be angry at me if I was you-" The demon snarks, easily dodging one of the swipes the leshy threw his way. "I'm simply doing a job, but my power is rooted from human ugliness. Pollution is humanity's fault, if anything you should be angry at them!"

'Of course I know that,' Yuma thinks to themselves, irritation flaring from within them. 'But it does not mean I also cannot be angry at you.'

Another attack at the demon earns a scratch on his arm, one that causes him to wince as grass sprouted from his wound. "Okay, for fucks sake! I'll pick another forest!" He spits on the ground as he hastily scrubs the greenery away, tar-like blood falling onto the forest floor.

Yuma can only watch in horror as the area where the blood lands darkens.

"Quiet bastard. Try killing humans instead, maybe your forest will be able to be as big as it once was." With a snap of his fingers the demon is gone and Yuma simply kneels onto the forest floor. Fingers gently trace against the area the demon had infected and the leshy cringes as they pull their fingers away, black tar sticking to them.

The pollution would spread in a matter of weeks and there was nothing they could do to stop it.

This part of the forest was as good as dead, they had failed. They bow their head and mourn for a few moments before standing straight one more. They would have to dig out a river to block the infection and protect the rest of the forest. With a heavy heart, Yuma sets off to work.

Still, the demon's words continue to ring in their ears.

Humanity is to blame.
