C'e stato un tempo
ho fatto tutto per me
se potessi ritornare
farei tutto per te

The tigrean regained consciousness slowly, feeling the cool, moist stone beneath her body and smelling the rain before she hesitantly opened her eyes. It didn't make much of a difference. The darkness was dense, as though the space around her was filled with objects, but none were within reach of her fumbling fingers as she searched for something to hold on to. She bit her lip thoughtfully and tried to remember where she was.
Her brow furrowed. Never mind -where- was she... WHO was she?!
The thought hit her like cold water, shocking and confusing, frightening and odd: Who was she?
Well, she knew she was a 'she', that counted for something. And she could remember snippets. Dreamlike images and snatches of conversation were running through her head as she closed her eyes again and tried to concentrate, tried to focus the pictures in her mind, tried to hone in on the specific words...
There was a voice, rich and deep, talking to her in a language that was just on the edge of understanding. It frustrated her that she couldn't decipher the words but, with her eyes still tightly closed, she could make out the face of the person talking to her. It was an Archan. His mannerisms betrayed his true age though his looks were still strikingly handsome and youthful, and the soothing tone of his voice as he spoke to her was ageless. Most of what he said made no sense to her, but as she focused more on the image forming in her mind she found that she could remember every word.
Sometimes the melodical monologue was accompanied with images; A house in flames, children playing, a room filled with shelves of books, a brooch, a small lizard-like creature, two lovers under a tree... The images were disjointed, changing quickly, but each was crystal clear.
Finally the images stopped and the voice said one last thing. "Ritornare. Si deve ritornare."
Opening her eyes again, exhausted from the experience, she managed to get up and stumble through the darkness until she hit a wall. Feeling her way along it she hoped for a change in texture, a crack, a chink, anything that would let her out. Her fingers touched on a wooden frame and with a quiet yelp of relief she hastily found a handle and held her breath as she turned it and pulled open the door.
Outside, the night sky was like a glittering blanket of deepest black. Each star shone down and the bright moon illuminated the courtyard in which she found herself. It seemed deserted. Weeds were well rooted between the uneven stones and here and there around the edges were evidence of smashed windows and roof tiles. She smiled sadly at the thought of how grand a place this must have been once upon a time.
She didn't have long to daydream though. Her roving eyes had spotted the entrance to the courtyard and she quickly trotted to it. Finding it blocked with metallic fencing her heart faltered a little, but she noticed the unsecured corner and managed to push the chain-link enough to squeeze through it onto the street.
Night-time city noises filtered through the air and she decided to follow them. Maybe someone would know her...
