So many pretty things existed out here! Such pretty, pretty things... shiny things, dull things, tall things, short things, rough things, smooth things, squishy things, pokey things, colorful things, things, things, things... his favorite, however, was most certainly the grass.

The grass was green like he was. Oh, how it excited him to meet his shiny green brethren! The grass would definitely play with him! There was no grass in the boring lab. The lab was dull and grey. There was nothing to do, and the scientists refused to talk to him. They thought he was stupid. All he wanted was to play; he had seen them play with their dogs. The dogs seemed to have much fun, so he tried to be like the dogs. Apparently, scientists do not enjoy being pounced on by giant lizards as they do being pounced on by little dogs. Baskets did not see the difference. "Baskets" was the name he had adopted for himself based on what they called him before he left on his vacation. "Basket case" was much too long and far less interesting. The grass would not want to play with him if he had such an uninteresting name.

He lay there, staring intently at the grass beneath his feet. It was soft and cool, seeming to dance in the slight breeze. The grass was inviting him to dance! Oh boy. Oh boy. He had never danced before. He should very much like to dance.

Leaping to all four feet, Baskets bounced about the clearing; he pranced to the left, hopped to the right, spun round, then with a curious tilt of his head gazed back to the grass. The grass was not dancing anymore. ...He did not think he was that bad of a dancer! Perhaps it was because he was so big and scaly. Perhaps if he could move with more grace, like the grass, then they would want to play with him again. After all, he did not have any other friends; he wished very much to remain friends with the grass. A soft whimper escaped his maw at the thought of losing his brand new friends. After all, there were so very many of them! To make so many friends and lose each of them all in the same day would be positively dreadful!

...wait. ...there was a way he could dance more gracefully! With a flash, Basket's oversized, lizardy body made a most dramatic metamorphosis; in his place there crouched a humanoid creature. Rather than being covered in scales, he now had skin; instead of a mane, he had hair; as opposed to standing on four legs... Baskets slowly raised himself to stand on two.

His face was one of mild panic. He had done this many times for the scientists, but he never got used to it. Oh, how he feared the heights! Falling was not at all fun like dancing! With a soft whimper, he attempted to regain his balance despite his mild panic. He had to do this, or else the grass would never forgive him! With solid determination and some small degree of courage, he moved one clawed foot forward to take a step... then another step.

Yesssss. He had done it! He had not forgotten how to walk on twos! Oh, twos were very difficult, yes, but he wondered now why he was ever afraid. ...That is a lie. Baskets, afraid? Psh. He was afraid of nothing! He could walk on twos better than every scientist out there! To prove such, he proceeded to prance about the clearing like an idiot once more. A naked boy hopping about naked in a forest was perfectly normal, of course. Not at all bizarre. After all, he was merely enjoying a nice day out dancing with his friends!

Pausing his prancing, Baskets chanced a look at the grass. Oh boy. The grass was dancing again! It liked his new dancing! Overjoyed, he continued his nonsense for quite some time before finally tiring out and flopping down in the grass by a tree. His friends wouldn't mind if he laid on them for a while. The fact that he trampled them to death with his idea of dancing never even crossed his mind. He wondered if he could make more friends. The grass was great and he enjoyed the dancing, but they weren't much for conversation. The scientists talked to him, but only briefly to tell him to do things or just to each other. He would very much like for someone to talk to him longer than that. To be talked to, rather than at. That sounded very nice! Holding a conversation was impossible when only being told things, so Baskets simply never talked. He had talked just once, in wonder at the new name they had given him when he had been too bored to bother listening to them; he had chosen to stare instead in hopes of conveying his aura of boredom to the scientists. That was when they had called him a "basket case." It was such a new and interesting term, he decided to repeat it! They were quite surprised and asked him to say more; there had been much excitement around his holding area at that time! But... they only wanted him to speak; they didn't want to play with him. He refused to speak to people who would not play with him ever again.

...however... he was positively certain that someone out in this world of pretty things would play with him! Once he finally found that person and they decided to play with him a few times, then he would definitely talk to them!

All was settled. He would leave right that moment and go find this amazing person! Perhaps they would be a pretty person, with a pretty lab, and perhaps they would have a pretty dog, too... the excitement was just too much!

Waving farewell to the grass, Baskets moseyed off into the trees to meet new friends! ...and hopefully learn more adjectives.
