You warm by the firelight
in twilight's blue
Shadows creep & dance the walls
He's creeping too..

And he's hungry, he's always hungry

Come on children, make yourselves warm around the campfire, and if you're good I'll tell you a story.

Have you heard about the Wendigo? They say it wanders around the forest at night, so swift you wouldn't catch more than a glimpse, without making a sound. All the better to hunt you with. It's a terrifying creature, around 8 feet tall, with elongated limbs that are as thin as twigs, ending in sharp claw like appendages. All the better to skewer you with. It is so skinny that it's bones protrude over what skin it has, it's eyes sunken deep within it's skull, it might as well be a literal representation of skin and bones. It has no hair, no fur of any kind, instead, it's covered in skin, skin that had been matted with blood and gore over the centuries. It's face is the stuff of nightmares, it's eyes glow yellow in the darkness. All the better to see you with. It has no nose, only slits for nostrils, and it's teeth, sharp and numerous as a shark protruding from a mouth with no lips. Some say it got so hungry that it ate it's own lips.

Indeed, the Wendigo is never full, it is never satisfied. The more it feeds, the more it hungers. The Wendigo will go to all lengths to secure a meal, it stops at nothing, no mountain too tall, no river too deep.
What does it crave? You ask. What delicacy is so irresistible to the Wendigo that it is never satiated. Why it is the soft skin of a child, the delicate flesh of a woman and the firm muscles of a man. That's right children, it wants to eat you

Children, have you ever played hide and seek? Or maybe tag? Because the Wendigo loves to play too, just like you. It stalks its prey before it devours them, it watches from the shadows, from beneath the old Maple tree. Have you ever felt like you were being watched? Or maybe followed? Like you were just a pawn in a game of chess? It likes that, and perhaps if you struggle, or panic, it'll love you more.

So children, when you wander around the woods, please be careful, you'll never know if the Wendigo is lurking, if it is watching you.

But don't be scared! It is just a story, told around a campfire at midnight, it cannot harm you.

What was that? I thought I just saw something move in the trees, probably just my imagination, or a flicker from the flames, it seems like it's getting late, and all of us are tired.

Rest children, rest, tomorrow will be another nice sunny day, be sure to blow out the candles before you sleep.
