Like really. Adults are such liars. "You'll become an astronaut, you'll become president, you'll discover a new animal species..." etc, etc. It's sick, really. Putting these thoughts into kid's heads, only to have them crushed when they don't happen. You could fill a whole book with just things that adults lie about. When I was four and my aunt no longer came to our Christmas party, I asked my mom about it. "She moved," she replied then. I asked if she was going to visit, and she said yes, certainly, maybe next Christmas.
Yeah, right.
She didn't come back for another party. She never came to visit. I was too young to understand, but when I was about in second or third grade, it came to me head-on like a ton of bricks. My aunt had died. And my mom had lied right to my face.
Adults don't believe anything, either.
They didn't believe me when I was nine and said that there was a black demon-thing outside our window. My mom didn't even look up from cooking, didn't even look shocked. "That's nice," she said. It was there, and then it was gone. She would have believed if she had just looked up, right? Unless she couldn't see it. Which I'm pretty sure is the case. 'Cause I'm the only one who can see these creatures.
Despite all that I just said, my mom was trustworthy, kind, pretty, and understanding. I feel bad about talking about the truth when she was kind--but she lied and didn't believe, as well.
Do you know why I'm talking about this to you? No, no, you probably wouldn't.
Hm, I wonder if my mom would finally believe me if I was torn to death by this demon right in front of me...
