John Ronald Reuel Tolkein was born January 3rd, 1892 in Bloemfontein, South Africa. Before his death at the age of 82, J. R. R. Tolkien achieved the title 'Father of Modern Fantasy' for his contribution to literature, including his highly celebrated works The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. His achievements still impact modern literature to this day.

To commemorate Tolkien's legacy, fans from around the world are invited to partake in the Tolkien Birthday Toast: at 9:00pm local time, on January 3rd, fans are encouraged to stand and raise a glass of their preferred drink (not necessarily alcoholic) and remember The Father of Modern Fantasy.

The toast is "The Professor."
