Hi!
I`m Macadamia.Could you please remind me what are you donig here in my office?
*I'm from the newspaper. I just want to ask you a few questions for an article.*
Alright, you can start.
*How was your life as a child?*
At first, calm. I lived in a farm. As the next school was too far, my grandmother used to teach me until I was 7 and I played a lot with my cousin, Steve. My father was not very often home, he had to travel to the city to sell the fruits that were produced in the farm, but one day he crashed the car. And died. My mother got realy bad. We had to sell the farm and all the family splited. All she could do was eat macadamias and say "You are all that is left to me".
*That's scary.*
Indeed. I don't know what could have happened if it wasn't for my gradmother. On the day we received the news from the accident she a red scarf and told me "From now on, be strong like the colour red, but keep yourself gentile as the silk. Everything you are used to will fall apart, but if you have these two qualities, then you will be able to do whatever you wish.". It's not a perfect formula, but it kept me focused on the present and on the future. Mom could only look back.
*What happened next?*
My mother and I moved to the city. The house was so empty without Steve, my aunt or grandma! They were in the other side of the country and could only visit us in December. My mother didn't work anymore and the money for the insurance was almost over. In the morning, I studied, in the afternoon I worked as a cashier at a supermarket. I was getting used to that life. I only had to be sure we had macadamia nuts at home that mom would do most of the house work. At fourteen I worked as cashier in a supermarket. Things went like this until I finished high school. When I entered university, I couldn't spend as much time with my mother as before, so she had to move to her sister house. None of us were happy, but she needed someone to take care of her and this was the best option.
*What course did you take in the university?*
Economy. When my father was still alive, we used to count together the money he got in the city and he explained how the market worked. Choosing economy was a way to keep him close to me after all that happened.
*And how did you get to be president of such a big company?*
It was hard. I started at the bottom and got promoted over and over...
Attention, passengers. We are now 15 minutes from landing.
I guess I should stop now. Thank you so much, Steve, for hearing me all this time. Is nice to have someone that will always listen to you when you need to talk.
It's okay, but at least you should explain me why you asked me to interview you about your life story and why you lied so much.
My routine is so boring! I don't really like the way I live, but I don't have options. Wake up. Go to work. Come back home. Sleep. Since grandma died I've been thinking: what if my life was different? By telling someone my life, but with a little bit of drama and glory, I imagined that I'd feel better. I guess it didn't work. I feel worse.
You don't need to come with me id you don't want to...
No. I want to see her for the last time. I've brougth my first red scarf.
