Halentine (HAL-en-teen) would like to consider himself an intellect.

His unsatiable thirst for knowledge and information about the world around him was a driving force throughout his entire existance. While the other young Jollins played together outside, he'd be off somewhere else asking endless questions to unsuspecting Subetans who happened to pass by. A lot of them humored him and answered his question without much hesitation (normally beginning with a "Oh, how adorable!" ), but others quickly got annoyed and gave him the cold shoulder. However, no amount of rejections can deter the small pet's curiosity for anything and everything. When not asking others, he would be reading some classic novels such as, How to Write I and II, How to Make Pie, and Ghost the Ghostly.

Fast forward several years, and now Halentine is a lot older, wiser, braver, and a bit more reckless. He had heard of a rumor about the appearance of Murkkain, an ice god who is known to be immortal and particularly well versed in the histories of the world. It was as tantalizing as someone waving a large, juicy pot roast in front of a starving wolf. Once he rooted out an approximation of Murkkain's location he set off, being led by only his instinct and a strange mental pull toward the Polar Ice Field.

He found himself trudging through the snow-packed ground, utterly lost. Normally, those who venture here are able to somehow find their way back where they started. 'I'm certain if I cannot find Murkkain, I'll just go back for more supplies and begin again.' Haletine though to himself, shivering from the frigid winds that had, unfortunately, picked up with a howl. He kept himself busy by recalling various information he had learned quite a while ago, determined not to forget any fact he had acquired. (He enjoyed doing that for fun)

But as his mind stayed sharp, his body soon began to succumb to the freezing temperatures. He passed nary a pet, traveller, or a sort of living thing. His paws began to feel heavy, as if they weren't attached to his body, and it was a struggle to put one in front of the other. Panic began to well up inside; shouldn't he have found the starting point to this field? He could have sworn he trecked far enough to get past this field entirely, yet all he sees is a blanket of white. It was hard to see where the ground end and the sky began.

Panic never helped with anything, Halentine muttered, keeping his head low and ears back to conserve what heat was left. He was quickly formulating a way to ride out the snowstorm when he took a step, and disappeared down an eerily lengthy chasm he did not see.

That's when he figured he died.

He woke up quite some time later, groggy, yet strangely alert and back on the snow-covered surface. He noticed a pair of hooves next to his muzzle and craned his neck to look up. An elk, carrying massive antlers and a long, shaggy coat of white, stood silently beside the Jollin, regarding him with mild curiosity. With a shake of its head the elk turned, giving one last glance back, and left. "What was that about?" Halentine pondered. It was then he realized he didn't feel the biting cold of the storm, and he felt much... hairier. He jumped to his paws and gave himself a look-over. His previous coat, a spotted purple/burgundy, was now a pure ivory, his tail spotted with the lightest of blues. It was also long like the elk he saw, and thankfully very warm.

It took him a few seconds to register what had happened and to wonder what it meant. It can't be normal. But whatever had occured obviously wasn't something bad, so why him?

Needless to say, the thought of researching what happened excited him, and his new coat would make the journey through the Polar Ice Fields a lot easier. He had a suspicion the elk he saw was the ice god he was looking for. Although (assuming he's correct) just the sight of it satisfied him, it refueled his desire to seek it out now that he knows it wasn't just a rumor.
