The trees were still. Gnats hovered aimlessly above the ground, over the moss and the grasses that had grown through. There was a distant echo of water rushing through a carved opening somewhere, or maybe it was a surging river, hidden by vines and trunks and dust. It was the only sound that cut through the heavy silence of the canopy and it was hard to tell which direction it came from.
Among the vines there were structures, old and stony. Open arches and chiselled steps that built a maze of grey. And standing there, in the center: Gigantic. A gentle giant.
