Thassarian
Named for the first Death Knight to rejoin the Alliance in World of Warcraft.

Class: Death Knight
Race: Human.
Affiliation: The Alliance, Valiance Expedition, Knights of the Ebon Blade.
Former Affiliations: Lordaeron, The Scourge.
Family: Killoren (father; deceased), Vivian (mother; deceased), Leryssa (sister).
Minions: Lurid (skeletal minion), Dusk (mount).
Weapons: Dual wields two identical runeblades.

Before the Third War, Thassarian lived with his mother and sister on a small farm outside of Lordaeron. He was assigned to the company of soldiers that Prince Arthas Menethil took to Northrend while hunting for Mal'Ganis. When Arthas and his right-hand man Falric went missing, Thassarian decided to search for them alone. Upon discovering Frostmourne Cavern he was confronted by the undead Falric, slain and raised as a Death Knight in the service of the new Lich King, Arthas. Upon returning to Lordaeron, Thassarian assisted in the massacre of its citizens and was forced to slay his mother, Vivian, as proof of his loyalty to Arthas.

The Scourge's assault on the High Elven region of Quel'Thalas caused Thassarian to meet the High Elf Koltira and his brother Faltora. Thassarian showed Faltora mercy in battle after remembering the murder of his mother. Soon after that, Koltira tracked the Death Knight down and questioned him as to why he'd spared his brother's life and attempted to convince him to regain some of his humanity. The attempt failed, and Thassarian told Koltira that they would meet each other in battle upon their next encounter. The following day Thassarian killed Koltira, and Koltira was also raised into Scourge servitude as a Death Knight. Thassarian was the one to end Koltira's life, but the two share a friendship that endures to this day.

Years passed. The Lich King mounted an offensive against Light Hope Chapel, the stronghold of the Argent Dawn in the Eastern Plaguelands. The plan was to raise the soldiers buried underneath the Chapel into the service of the Scourge. Despite the fact that the Death Knight forces greatly outnumbered the forces of the Argent Dawn, the Scourge were defeated. The spirit of Thassarian's father, Killoren, appeared before him and convinced him to stand down. The leader of the Death Knight assault, Darion Morgraine declared the independence of the Death Knights that survived the battle and the Knights of the Ebon Blade were born. After parting with Koltira, Thassarian then travelled to the Human capital of Stormwind and met with King Varian Wrynn, convinced him to accept the Ebon Blade as allies and ensured that the Gnome, Dwarf, Night Elf, Draenei and Human Death Knights would be accepted as members of the Alliance.

After the events of the Cataclysm, Thassarian is sent to claim the city of Andorhal for the Alliance. This attempt to reclaim the city turns into a three-way battle for control between the Alliance (led by Thassarian), the Forsaken (led by Koltira Deathweaver) and the Scourge (led by Darkmaster Gandling and Araj the Summoner). After the Scourge leaders are defeated and their minions dealt with, Thassarian and Koltira enter a truce. The truce is broken by a sneak attack on Forsaken forces by Alliance farmers, and the war between the Alliance and the Forsaken is reignited. After the revelation that the Forsaken forces are using Val'kyr -- former agents of the Lich King with the power to resurrect the dead into undeath -- the Alliance forces lose the battle and retreat. Thassarian knows that Koltira would not use the Val'kyr to win the battle, and feels that something has gone wrong. He heads off to Tirisfal Glades to hunt the leader of the Forsaken, Sylvanas Windrunner, and to find out what she has done to Koltira.

In-game, Thassarian can be found in Acherus: The Ebon Hold in Eastern Plaguelands, in the Wailing Ziggurat in Borean Tundra, aboard the Alliance airship The Skybreaker in Icecrown, and in Andorhal in Western Plaguelands. He is usually accompanied by his skeletal minion, Lurid.
