morgan lewis, the social butterfly. a manly name for a girly girl. a child obsessed with her rung on the popularity ladder, using people to get where she wanted to be. if one was to look past the makeup and the designer brands and the lies, there's a person driven mad with insecurity.

Morgan grinned widely as the small MSN pop-up at the bottom of the screen lit up, hastily shifting her cursor to it and clicking. Her fingers flew to the keys almost immediately, typing a hasty 'hey' and tapping the enter button. Zak was her best friend, and more importantly, her love interest. What Morgan wanted, Morgan got. This was no exception.

Morgaan'Leewis: hey. :3

ZaK...TreharnE: hey morg.

Morgaan'Leewis: how's it hanging? how was the game? :D

ZaK...TreharnE: good. we wan 5-3.

Morgaan'Leewis: oh, awesome! hey zak, listen, i have something to ask you..

Morgan's heart started to race the moment she sent those words. Butterflies fluttered in her stomach; no matter how much confidence she had in herself, she was so nervous. She had no doubt in her mind how he'd react to what she was about to say, however. Who could say no to her? She'd had boys wrapped around her little finger for years. Some called her a manipulative little flirt, but she preferred to be called a woman of the men.

ZaK...TreharnE: what is it?

Morgaan'Leewis: would you go out with me with me if you could?

ZaK...TreharnE: .. do i have to answer?

Morgaan'Leewis: yeah! :P

ZaK...TreharnE: meet me at the park at half past, then.

Morgaan'Leewis: huh? why?

ZaK...TreharnE: just be there, please? and don't wear makeup.

For the first time in a while, Morgan was speechless. Blinking slowly, she closed the chat window, turned off her laptop, and jumped to her feet. What was he going to say? Like hell was she going without makeup. With a gentle sigh, she pulled on her boots and wrapped a long scarf around her slender neck, reapplying mascara and lipgloss once she was ready. Her cream furred cat was curled up on her pillow, and she carefully scratched the feline's head, a smile tugging at the corner of her mouth. After a little scramble around her messy bedroom, she found her keys and pocketed them, before leaving her house and beginning the five minute journey to the park.

Before long, the blonde ditz was sat alone on a swing in the empty park, gazing up at a flock of birds soaring through the pastel pink skies above her. They never made any noise, and it was depressing. She loved the sound of birdsong, yet it was rare around there. However, that was the least of her concerns. What on Earth was he playing at, making her come out here in the freezing cold and telling her not to put on the necessities? Anger rose in her chest, hands clenching into fists on the chains, manicured nails pressing into her palms. Shuffling made her look up, catching sight of a tall brunette boy approaching her. Zak.
"I told you not to wear makeup, Morg'." He sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. Furious, Morgan stood and threw the swing behind her, storming right up into his face.
"Are you crazy? I'm mad at you already, making me come all the way out here in freezing winter weather, and you're complaining about this? You better explain or I'll really give you something to complain about." She snarled, pointing a finger at him.

Silence. Neither of them spoke for a few seconds. All that was audible was the rustling of trees and gentle breathing, each breath clouding before their faces. Zak lifted his head and narrowed his eyes suddenly, grasping her shoulders tightly.
"I'm here to answer your question. I wanted to do it to your face. Here's the deal; no, I wouldn't go out with you if I could. I don't like the way you are. You try too hard, and you think you can get whatever you want. You can't. That's not how it works." He shot, emerald eyes glinting with surprising, spontaneous malice.
"B-but.." Morgan's words caught in her throat. Noone, let alone a boy she liked, had ever spoken to her in such a tone. Hot tears stung the back of her eyes, and some escaped, sliding down her cheeks. Trembling, she pressed her face into her palms, sobbing lightly into them. He would never know how many wounds he'd opened. She used to be so unpopular without confidence, so ugly without makeup.. she tried so hard because she wanted to impress him.

She wanted him to love her.

Zak's face softened as his friend burst into tears. It was hurting him just as much as it was hurting her; saying that to her, and for her to have such a terrible reaction, had pretty much broken his heart. Biting his lip, he pulled her hands from her eyes, lifted her chin, and stared into her watery eyes. His heart fluttered. Even though her mascara was smudged, and her lipgloss was wiped away, in his eyes, she was still the most beautiful girl he'd ever seen.
"What I wanted to say was that you're amazing without the rubbish you put on. You don't need fakery or designer clothes to look stunning. At least, that's what I think. You think so low of yourself. Underneath all the smiles and the outgoing personality, I know there's a shy and emotional person. Give it up, Morg'. Stop kidding yourself and other people." He murmured, stroking her cheek with his thumb.
Morgan smiled. She wrapped her arms around his waist.

The birds sang.
