It's a dirty, small bar, but that's precisely why I love it. There, no one really knows you, no one really cares. You are hidden by a veil of cigarette smoke and apathy. You can drown in your sorrows and no one will ask you about it. You can come in covered in mud, blood, and you are anonymous. People sit, rarely in groups, they drink, they pay, they leave. No thumping rave-pop music, no jazz. It is relatively silent, and on occasion there will be the light sounds of two complete strangers playing billiards at the pool table. Or a light shuffle of cards as two nameless people start a round of black jack, a silent agreement made with a quick nod of heads. People come and go, there are no regulars, or maybe there are, others just aren't bothered to remember each other.

The only constant is the vodka mixed drinks always made with Smirnoff, and slightly cold beer. Even sometimes I forget my own name in the bar. I am just another person making a living by providing people with their choice of poison.

I am bartender, drink fetcher, but I fade into the background with everyone else. Women and men, we are just strangers in a bar, minding our own business.
