A Dark Gentleman...

Grifte never knew his parents, as his father had apparently died of illness, and his mother in childbirth when having him. Instead, he was raised by others, members of the colony of "gypsies" that he lived among in a rural part of Italy. They were beyond poor, as they had no place to call a home, no money or possessions. They traveled and set up small camps wherever they went, making what little currency they could by selling home-made jewelry to tourists (the only people that would buy from them). It was during this time that a pair of British tourists took a liking to him--a wealthy couple. They adored his little accent, his terrible English, and the fact that, despite his surroundings and lifestyle, he still had the gall to criticize the husband's wardrobe for how it 'clashed'. They gave him a generous handful of cash, which was automatically handed off to the older members of the colony, and went back home, knowing there was little else they could do to help the orphaned boy.

Two years later, though, when he was thirteen, the Italian government, which was notorious for loathing and discriminating against these gypsies, intentionally allowed the mob to burn the gypsy camp, killing several, wounding others, and sending the remainder to prison for petty crimes such as illegal immigration and illegal loitering. It made international news, due to the unbelievable intolerance, and that same British couple recognized the people they were seeing on TV, and traveled to Italy once again. Grifte hadn't been killed, or even badly harmed, but minor burns sent him to the hospital--luckily, or he would have been in prison already. They adopted the boy, taking him back home with them and instantly throwing him into this modern, wealthy lifestyle that he somehow seemed destined for. He excelled in school, accepting the persona of a privileged elite, and openly began seeing other men.

His 'adoptive father' seemed to have a greater problem with this than his wife, but the young Montre would find that it was simply discomfort, or possibly denial, since it wasn't long before the much older man was propositioning him. It disturbed Grifte at first, to be approached by an older man, let alone his 'father', but he had yet to live with the couple long enough to see them as family, and decided to use the pathetic man to get all of his money. He slept with him once, only to accuse him later of assault, which resulted in the man's wife leaving him and the man desperately offering him however much money he wanted to keep him from taking him to court. Grifte took the bribe, and this set him off on a long life of swindling and Grifting. As he grew older, he attended the best university, began taking up different personas and trying different techniques of luring men, and women, into these cons.

Eventually, his reputation and incredible skill as a manipulator, actor, and 'spy', attracted a powerful man to him. Kobalos was not interested in him sexually, but did recruit him to work for him, offering to pay him generously in exchange for his services. Grifte accepted, on the condition that he was still allowed to come and go as he pleased, and thus began his services to the reclusive lord.

Greatest Strength|| Grifte is not a man of power or strength, though he is physically fit and athletically capable. He is a master of manipulation and deception, a grifter and a spy who uses people for information, money, and power. He is able to effortlessly develop aliases and persona's, thanks to a vast knowledge of various languages, accents, and dialects, and lie his way in or out of any situation. He is dangerously clever, and also knows how to take care of himself whether it be in self-defense, or in tending injuries. He is a jack of all trades.
Greatest Weakness|| He is lazy, but also non-committal, and can easily be 'bought out' or bribed to switch sides or offer his services. He does not enjoy effort, anything that makes him sweat, and he has a bad habit of insulting people unintentionally. He's also non confrontational, not because he wouldn't be able to handle himself in a fight, but because he doesn't enjoy pain, and would sooner pay someone off than fight them.

Personality|| An intelligent and stoic man. He spends much of his time reading or listening to music, always enjoying only the finest of accommodations. He is not a cruel or mean individual, but an indifferent one, who rarely smiles or laughs, save for when it is required 'in character'. It is very difficult to tell when he is being genuine, due to the many aliases and alter-egos he possesses, but he can also be very intense and personal, and takes his intimate life and relationships very seriously. Granted, he rarely ever sticks with intimate relationships for long, and never wastes his time on someone that he can't get something from. He's rather vain, but not particularly egotistical, in that he can be very condescending and elitist, but he does not fawn over himself, or boast very much.
