Time isn't a straight progression of events.

Sometimes it gets snagged or knotted, and needs to be put back in order.

There is a figure that some called "Father Time". It doesn't truly suit him. He's not a father, and he's certainly not time its self. He is merely its caretaker.

He is the one who tends to time. He keeps watch over all the events, and he makes sure that people don't fall between the cracks onto a threat that they don't belong to. If that happens, they rip a whole in the tapestry of, well, everything, and he has to be the one to sit down and stitch things back together. Sometimes, that means having to cut some threads and tie in new ones. He hates doing that. He doesn't like cutting strands shorter then they are given to him, but if the threads take on a life of their own, even he can only work with what he's been given.

He doesn't keep the threads either, which makes it all the more maddening. He's given threads by "the mother" who has more names then he cares to remember--though he knows all of them anyway. He doesn't leep threads on hand. So when people muck his work up, or there is more to add to the tapestry, he gets the threads from the waver who lives downstairs from his library, with dirt, plants, insects and animals frequenting in and out. It was filthy and things changed constantly down there, and he always found it an unpleasant experience when he had to go down there, for nothing quite measured up, in his opinion, to his library, and the countless texts, charts, and paintings that adorned his room.
