Constellation Cassius, "The Philosopher"
---

Cassius is generally portrayed as a fox with the night sky as his tail, though in some areas he takes the form of a prince who paints portals to the sky with a magic paintbrush. It is said that Cassius was sent to the sky by the god, Vasilius, for being too mischeivous in his search for meaning. His tricks and cunning personality often angered the gods, so much so that he was outcasted by the majority of them.

Getting Vasilius to send him to the sky was Cassius' final trick against the gods, as it was his goal to not only become a constellation, but to have infinite insight into the universe above his former home. When Vasilius discovered that the fox had learned how to traverse the sky, and do as he pleased, he was rightfully angry, but could not undo his mistake. In later records, it is said that Vasilius eventually went to the sky to watch over Cassius, but could not figure out how to travel away from his constellation. It is said that the god's anger makes Vasilius the brighest contellation in the sky.

Astronomers have been baffled by the constellation Cassius and his apparent ability to move in the sky, and sometimes disappear altogether. There is no proof that the mythology behind him is sound, but there aren't many other explanations for his behavior in the sky. As of today, they have suspended research on his habits in favor of exploring new planets and solar systems, but an odd few still try to track his position in their free time.

Cassius is thought to appear in a physical form to those who have lost everything, and cannot comprehend their place or their meaning in the world. These people generally look to the stars, and he tries to be there for them, as he knows that humans have always been both fascinated and comforted by their presence. They say he wraps them in his starry tail, and takes them to a place where everything makes sense. He answers what he can.
