Just a Dream?

"No!" an extremely familiar voice shouted above the depths. "Feroz!" It shouted again. "Mama?" the little antlephore called, though he couldn't even hear his own voice. He couldn't see anything and nothing seemed real. Maybe this was all just a bad dream. Maybe not.

His head lolled back and his mother nuzzled him all the way until he had to go into the surgery room. "Feroz! You come back to me!" A pet in white took him away, with no trace of emotion on his face. "Feroz! Feroz! My baby!" His mother cried, unable to let go of her baby just yet. If anything happened, she would be completely destroyed. That was her baby and now she might be losing him forever. She waited outside the room for hours and the doctors came out. They shook their head in defeat and pulled off their hats. The mother screamed and rushed into the surgery room, only to find her baby 'sleeping' on the table. She cried out in dispair. The doctors dragged her out of the room where her baby lay. "No! No!" She fought. The walked in her baby's room and locked the door behind them. She collapsed on the floor, defeated. Her eyes were red and blurred but she knew that face anywhere. The terrible sea witch, Merana. Though she was not her first choice of help, Feroz's mother needed help soon. "Merana! Merana! My baby Feroz is in there! There's nothing the doctors can do to save him! Please help! Please!" Merana looked a bit bewildered. "So, you need um, Ferobe? to be 'blessed' by me? hmm..." she thought for a moment and continued, "Alright, I'm feeling generous today. What can you give me?" The mother looked around and exclaimed, "I don't have anything to give you..." Merana looked at her with a smug face, "Well then I guess I can't help you, sorry." Merana had an interesting look on her face as she studied the desperate mother. "What about those pearls?" The mother looked down to her neck. Her mother's enchanted pearls sat glistening and looking as new as ever. "What? These?" The mother asked a bit questioning. "No, the pearls on the floor. Of course those pearls you dope!" The mother didn't hesitate, she nodded and Merana lifted her mother's pearls off of her neck, where they had been sitting since she was a young child. "Now save my baby." Merana gave a disgruntled look, "Oh alright, where is the little twirp?" The mother pointed to the room and Merana busted the door open. There was a blue-green light emitting from the room and Merana then slithered out. She didn't say anything, her face just looked a little less twisted. "Feroz?" the mother called into the room quietly. "Mama?" A little voice sounded, almost inaudible. The mother ran to her child and nuzzled his soft fur. "My baby!" tears of joy ran down her face and a huge smile took the place of a distraught frown. "Mama, I just had a terrible dream! I fell in the ocean and then it went black." His mother's face winced a bit, but she still kept a smile for her baby and whispered, "It's ok baby, everything is alright now. I've got you." The little antlephore looked up at his mother and kissed her with his sweet baby kisses. Now? An antlephore races through the Subetan Oceans rescuing young and old animals and Subetans in need. Though he is always touched when he finds a young antlephore. It reminds him of his mother. The way she sacrificed one of her most beloved possesions to save his life. He was sure she didn't hesitate either. If only she could see him now, working the way he is, saving lives that were just like his. He owes it all the his mom, and he supposes Merana should get credit too. Even though he is now one of Merana's minions, it doesn't stop him from saving lives. He has become the "lifeguard" of the Subetan Seas. Feroz knows that everything really wasn't a dream, but admires his mother's gentleness, and his experience only furthers his drive to save the Subetans and their pets. For now his life, really is his dream.
