Sing me a song of the desert.
Of quiet oasis under the moonlight,
of dunes that shift with the wind.
Sing me a song of my home,
which can be found only in your arms.

Desert Sand

Arabic- a name for what are traditionally considered the descendants of the Classical Arabic language of the 6th century. This includes both the literary language and varieties of Arabic spoken in a wide arc of territory, stretching across Western Asia (aka the Middle East), North Africa, and East Africa (aka the Horn of Africa). Arabic belongs to the Afro-Asiatic language family. -Wikipedia

The desert has always been a place of wonder, whether it be in awe or dread. There are secrets there if one cares to look, of not only how to live, but how to thrive. Spirits and magic are written in the very sand and wind, perceivable to a select few. Shamans they call them, the wise men, the magi, the keepers of desert secrets and magic, the very lifeblood of desert tribes.

Arabic is a shaman, marked from an early age. Even as a child he had a rather feminine build in comparison to his tougher built peers. And his eyes, oh his golden eyes were like a hawk, all seeing and wise. He was different. And different meant special. He was snatched up almost immediately for training. He learned the ways of the desert, all the secrets that his teacher could offer him. As a shaman he was a wise man, a healer, a representative, the sole spiritual leader.

But that was so long ago that no one in his tribe now remembers. Some say that Arabic is hundreds of years old, though he looks barely older than 20. He never lost his androgynous look, it is believed that the spirits marked him as being able to walk in both the world of men and the world of women. Arabic has served his tribe well over the many decades, having done everything in his power to keep his people safe and strong, whether it is leading them to an oasis or into battle. He was always strong and sturdy in times of trouble.

It is that reliability that made it tradition for men of royalty and power to seek the advice of desert shamans and that no emir could gain power without their blessing. So Arabic was not surprised when the current emir’s second son, dressed as any desert prince, made his way to his tent. The shaman at first turned him away, not wanting to risk the wrath of the true heir. But the second son knew what the old and wise Arabic wanted for payment: the rare riches and experiences he could not procure on his own. A steep payment for most. The second son offered a foreign grown fruit, a kind that would never grow in the desert, in return for a simple blessing. Arabic accepted, but only for a small blessing that would not anger the true heir.

Time passed and one day the second son returned to Arabic’s tent, this time dressed in a silken black suit with diamond cuff-links. He wanted another blessing, this time offering a gold and ruby bracelet of the most delicate filigree Arabic ever saw. The second son returned more and more over the years, leaving Arabic with sinfully sweet foods and golden jewelry as heavy as any slave chain. Some of the tribe whispered concerns about their shaman being enthralled with the second son, that they were throwing their lot in with a potential usurper.

But the day when the heir inherited his father’s throne, when Arabic braced himself for the second son’s fury, the second son was elated. Something had happened in a city so far away it might as well not exist as far as Arabic was concerned. The second son spoke excitedly of stocks and portfolios and acquisitions and other things so far beyond Arabic’s experience that it made his head spin. The throne was far from desires, a pitiful chair in the sand when compared to the mahogany boardrooms high atop glass towers. He did not want his brother’s power, but he did want more than a blessing this time.

The second son wanted Arabic’s tribe to align with him fully, for Arabic to be his adviser and blesser and his alone. In return his tribe would never have to fear sickness or shortage or their enemies ever again. His palace would be open to them always just as long as he kept succeeding.

Arabic hesitated. His tribe had always valued their freedom. But the desert is a harsh home and the promise of a patron keeping his people safe was tempting. And Arabic always did what was best for his people.

Today Arabic can be found splitting his time between wandering the desert as he always had with his tribe, and staying as a favored guest at the palace when the second son returns home from his world travels. He is always amazed by the gifts and stories the second son brings him. In return he tries to give whatever advice and blessings he can, though he is not fully knowledgeable of his patron’s actions beyond the desert and nor has any idea what effect his blessings are having in that city that is so far away.

_____

Arabic has the appearance of an anthro pure white lop kanis with golden eyes. His build is very androgynous and it is common to mistake him for a woman. As a guest at the palace Arabic's clothes are rich and flowing. His desert clothing was more modest, hardly more than a traditional tunic, sash, and sometimes long coat, but with both he wore a lot of jewelry and makeup.
