I opened my eyes to a new day, feeling well rested and ready for the days struggles. I stood up, pushing myself from the ground's mossy bedding, and began to walk. I touched the trees as I walking, nodding an agreement to a few of them, to signify my understanding. They were telling me of the happenings of the previous night, not in words... it was hard to explain, but they shared their memories with me, with a meer touch. The feeling was familiar to me, the roughness of the bark, and softness of the grass beneath my feet as I walked the same path I had every day of my life. All was the same, all was well. I eventually reached my destination; a river that flowed through the forest that was my home. I knelt beside it and drank before reaching down to the plantlife at the bottom and acknowledging everything the lifeform had to share. It was useful to know as much as I could about the gings on of my home at every given moment, after all, everything could change in an instant if I wasn't careful. I had learned my lesson well, to be forever on my guard. My stomache growled, reminding me of its existance, it could not be ignored any longer. I headed back the way I came, walking until I found what i was looking for, an apple tree. I lloked through the too-green apples until I found what I wanted, a beautifully red one just out of my reach. I sighed in frustration, feeling liuke it was still too early to climb the tree for a single apple before touching the ground above the roots and silently asking the tree for assistance in my quest for the evasive apple. I stoodup straight again and held up my open palm, watching silently as the branch holding my soon-to-be breakfast streached in a spiral down to me, carrying my apple with it. When it was in my hand I snapped off the fruit and mentally thanked the tree and its branch retracted back to its origional length and shape. I bit into the apple, and smiled; well worth it. It was sweet and crunchy, perfect. I sighed in contentment and continued to walk aimlessly, touching trees in search of information. My ears perked up, and I straightened in expectation, after listening a bit longer I finally started running. I leaped off a large stone on the ground and reached for a lowhanging branch, swinging myself intop of it. With that I lept from tree to tree, swinging and grabbing wildly until I reached the spot where I was needed, but was I too late? ... The bird lay on its side, wing bent at an unnatural angle. It was still young, and had fallen from the nest in the tree above. I tenderly inspected the damage, and decided that I could not heal it. I placed my hands on the ground and asked the trees for knowledge that may help me heal it, but they had nothing either. I watched as it drew its last shallow breaths and pass on. I kissed my thumb and pressed it against its forehead, releasing it to the next life, and freeing it to leave its mortal body to continue the natural cycle of life. Bugs would feed off if its body, and more birds would feed on them, and the other predetors would eat thiose birds, and so on, as it had always been and always would be. I left its small body on the ground to help continue the worlds flow. ... I wandered a little bit more through the familiar forest that was my home, listening. The trees were wise, they had taught me everything I know. How to walk, feed myself, and protect the forest. I was taught at an early age never to stop the natural balance, as in preditors eating their prey, but only as an observer, and occasionally correct accidents. I don't ever remember being anywhere but my small patch of woods, everything else was unknown, as I was told it should stay. I listened to the tree's advice on the matter, if they thought I shouldn't know about the rest of the world, then I wasn't ready, for they were much older than I. I had never not talked to the trees, and they had always been right, and many times saved my life, although they were unsure of themselves in numerous occasions, especially when I had nearly been eaten by a wolf, and the distorted the order... I suppose it was a mistake, but I swore to do for them whatever I could to make it up, and I've been doing my work in the forest ever since. I knew the animals feared me, for I was a forign species apparently,as the trees had told me, and that was why the wolf attacked, to protect its territory, or maybe even just for the food. I have never been sure whether the trees knew if I was preditor or prey, for they didn't tell me. Either way, with no way to protect myself, or fight, I shouldn't have survived, but I climbed a tree and got away. I had used the trees teachings for my own gain. for survival when it wasn't ment to be. I had made a horrible flaw, and I don't know if the trees have ever forgiven me... or even if they were even capable of anger in the first place.
