In the continent of Orius, where deities walk the lands and magical anomalies are widespread, the emergence of a new race at the turn of the century had resulted in much alarm across the nations. These new beings, known to laymen as striates, were not altogether a new form of life, but the corrupted bodies of humans, charged with immense and uncontainable elements that rendered them incapable of civility. After many attempts to reason with these beings, as well as horrific incidents resulting in the loss of life and property, the governments of the capital state voted for the segregation of the striates; however, after a violent revolt, they cautiously allowed the coexistence of striates and their civilised counterparts, in the hope that their subpar status in society would appease them. While the incidence of violence has decreased somewhat, striates are still widely found to be rogue, acting mainly on their whims, without consideration for the wellbeing of others.
While the population of striates are not yet great, exponentially increasing numbers of them are discovered each day.
