Oroszlan roared at the rising sun. He'd been up for hours, practicing, training, working himself until he was sore all over. It would all be worth it when he was a true warrior. For now though, he needed a bite to eat.

Oroszlan headed back to his village. He was from an old and strong people, and though he was young still, he knew in his heart he would one day make them all proud. Times had not been good for them recently. Where once they'd had paved roads and streets that echoed with the sounds of weapons being forged by the villages many blacksmiths, now they had broken, dusty roads and silent, abandoned shops. Most of the warriors who had made this place thrive had been killed in the last great war, and drought had sapped the people of the last of their energy. Oroszlan was determined not to let it stay that way.

"Is there any food today, Mama?" he asked, stepping into their hut.
[br"Not yet, son," his mother told him, her voice sad but resolute, "But I am going out hunting later with the lionesses. We will bring back something to eat or we will not come back at all."

"Don't speak of such things, Mama," Oroszlan replied, rubbing her shoulders, "Let the other lionesses go without you, you need rest to keep up your strength."

"Do not coddle me, son. The day I cannot hunt is the day I do not deserve to call myself a lioness."

Oroszlan sighed. He knew he could not stop his mother from going, no matter how frail she was becoming every day they went with too little food and too little water. "One day I will be a great lion warrior, and I will make this village strong again," he promised her.

His mother gave him a coy look. "You are still too young to know what you are saying, but I admire your dream, however foolish it might be. Now be a good son and go fetch the lionesses some water. We will need it for the hunt."

Oroszlan nodded and left to collect the water as his mother asked. One day, he would be strong enough to save his mother and the whole village. He'd be a warrior if it was the last thing he did. For now, he needed to train.
