That's right - the Kraken.
A lot of pride goes into smashing ships and mangling sailors. It's practically a family business - a sacred reputation, in fact.
And when your dad, who just happens to be the Kraken, also gives you a macho name like "Bruno", you might feel a little pressure.
Bruno was definitely in that boat - and had a hard time destroying them the way his father wanted. He relished in the glory of his work, but Bruno preferred a quieter life among the coral.
During one of his father's lessons, which involved a lot of physical and emotional wreckage, Bruno finally managed to feel the spark of real interest.
Unfortunately, it was for the cargo of the ship, which had been transporting a plethora of fantastical textiles and sewing supplies.
Bruno snatched up these new and exciting things as soon as his father finished his "...and that's why you're terrible at being my son, Bruno." speech. He salvaged them from the reef and kelp forests and stored them away in a secret cave where he often hid from his responsibilities as the Kraken's son.
He locked himself away in that place for days. He sewed frilly pillows, he sewed soft little sea stars, he sewed sweaters for eels.
He was finally good at something! He had a purpose! He had never felt so liberated!
But it wasn't smashing ships like his father wanted.
Bruno is in no hurry to share this personal discovery with his father. He continues to maintain his hobby without detection and suffer through his father's lessons in the meantime, but his heart will never be where his father wants it to be.
