With the remaining anima on the ship too occupied with gaining their bearings, there was not a soul to imagine what else could be happening in the middle of the ocean. Below the surface of the water, something else was beginning to manifest from the thunderstorm's overwhelming energy. It was a phenomenon that not many knew about. Only the most hardened and saltiest of sailors and pirates have any inkling of knowledge of how aquatic monsters came to be. Anyone who happened to witness one however, never lived on to tell the tale.
About a mile away from the stranded ship, the water beneath the harsh waves began to swirl. The spiral became larger and more ferocious with every passing second. It was here that a great deal of supernatural energy was collecting. Then suddenly, there was a presence.
Noise. Water. "Where am I?" Those were the first sensations of the unembodied being that manifested in the center of the whirlpool. As soon as this consciousness came to be, the swirling water around it ceased to exist. The being felt itself being moved around with the ocean waves. Without the swirling of the whirlpool that had been there only moments before, everything was relatively silent beneath the waves. It was dark the entire time the being felt itself floating. The unembodied entity couldn't find itself to think about anything else, until--
CRASH!!
A morbidly loud scream echoed out beneath the waves, yet it was drowned out by the sound of lightning crashing into the sea. The lightning had disappeared just as fast as it had struck the surface of the ocean, but the sensation of pain still lingered for the unembodied being. The presence that had been lurking in the water felt itself changing. Shaking, stretching, writhing about against its own will. Another pained scream escaped the being, with newly found legs shoving themselves through the harsh waves, and a long tail desperate to assist the rest of the body in some manner.
Although this being, this creature, had been submerged the entire time, only now was it beginning to feel the water around itself. The water was frigid, wet, and throwing around the mass of a body that the entity now found itself contained within. What happened? The being didn't comprehend that it no longer needed to fight against its newfound body as time went on. The creature found itself taking the body, her body, down further beneath the waves to stabilize herself. With a final thrash of her limbs, she swam down a few feet, only to emerge from the ocean's surface moment later.
The creature's senses were overwhelmed when she poked her head above the surface of the water. The harsh wind, flashes of lightning, and roars of thunder were all observed at once. Just what was this world she had arrived in? Where was she? Among the waves, she spotted something in the distance. She didn't know what a ship was, but was intrigued by the large structure being tossed around aimlessly by the waves. However, her curiosity was overwhelmed by a different feeling, the longer she watched the ship. It was a feeling as foreign as everything else the creature experienced in the few moments she existed. Hunger. Her midsection had an aggravating ache to it, intensifying as the ship in the distance continued to move about in her vision.
Consume.
The beast found herself moving forward. She didn't think about swimming towards the ship, about moving or limbs, or what she was going to do once she reached it. She just moved. Her trip was effortless, as if her foreign body did nothing to slow her down. And indeed, it didn't. The creature would come to find out later that she had become one with the rolling waves in a literal sense.
Within an alarmingly short amount of time, the anima that manifested in the sea found herself next to the ship. She swam along the length of the hull erratically, feeling something as each scream from the anima onboard reached her ears. Her hunger was intensifying. She needed to reach the other animals on this ship somehow. She opened her mouth, her beak, and a sound emitted from it. The way it contrasted to the crashing thunder, rough waves, and shrieks was outstanding. It was a melodious tone, both soothing and seductive at the same time.
"We're all going to die!! I didn't want to go out-- not like this!!" One of many panicked screams sounded from the top of the ship. The voice came from a large, ferret-like creature with a splendid mane. A Leasel. Said Leasel clung desperately to the edge of the ship, clearly unexperienced in the ways of the sea. "I don't want to die! I can't! I..." Silence overcame the Leasel as a voice reached their ears. Suddenly, all seemed to fall silent to this anima. The chaotic sounds they had been contributing to now felt distant as the singing became clearer.
The Leasel looked over the edge of the ship, eyes catching the sight of what it recognized as a griffin. This beautiful creature continued to sing, moving away from the hull of the ship. The words that came from this griffin were nothing like anything the Leasel had ever heard before, and they were completely entranced. They found themselves reaching a paw out as the griffin distanced itself further away. "Where... wait? Where are you going?" They whimpered, desperation in their tone. They had forgotten about the danger they were initially in. They didn't care either, the Leasel was now in their own world, consisting of only them and the beautiful griffin in the water.
"Join me." The creature in the water spoke, momentarily stopping her song to speak in the language the Leasel understood. The anima on the boat held their position, unmoving. It was if they were momentarily conflicted about what to do. Their mind wasn't registering the raging storm that blew harsh rain into their face, the waves below, or the violent sways of the ship. Something in the back of their mind, or behind their very being begged them to not jump into the water, but they were soon ignored when the griffin in the water beckoned to them again. "Join me..."
Without another word, the Leasel jumped.
