Jollin

(JAH-lin)

The jollin is a small vulpine native to the Sacred Desert although older texts might tell a different story! Before the jollin was truly documented, a small group of them sneaked onto a ship bound for the Arctic Frost and became quite lost. The native Ytivi believed they had discovered a new species, although they were confused by their large ears and lack of dense fur! It was only after a large gathering of these vulpines were observed in the desert that their true origins were uncovered although the highly-adaptable jollins in the arctic have been able to thrive thanks to growing a glacier coat.

Jollins are highly social creatures and live in small groups called "yips" throughout the desert so named because when you get near a group, that's all you can hear! They do their best to keep a distance between groups so that there is plenty of insects, the jollin's preferred source of food to go around. There are usually 3-4 kits born in a litter, and it is normal for families to remain grouped together for generations. If a group does grow too large, the youngest will split off to form their own groups so that competition for food remains at a minimum. Jollins are quite small, with most weighing just between 6-8 lbs (2.7-4 kgs).

In their native lands, jollin are prized for being wonderful insect control, and in colder climates they are prized for their luxurious tails. A few dedicated Subetans set off to domesticate these creatures soon after their discovery, and they can make quite wonderful pets. As is evidenced by their mistaken origins, jollins are known for both curiosity and for being escape artists, so one must take care with both. They are quite loving to their owners, but they do require frequent play sessions to keep their energy in check, and it is recommended by most experts to keep two jollins instead of just one, so they can wear each other out!
