Kumos

(KOO-mōs)

The kumos is perhaps the most well-known of all creatures in Subeta. Ever the loyal, patient companion, the kumos dates back far in Subeta's past - although there does not seem to be a lot of evolution records for it! Legend has it that the very first kumos is in fact The Wizard's own companion kumos, Luna; she was created from the night sky, and the Wizard marked her with the symbol of the crescent moon to symbolize the bond her species now shares with their owners. This has earned Luna the affectionate title of "Mother", as she is long-believed to be the immortal mother of all kumos. All kumos now share her crescent markings, a sign of the new beginnings this pet brought to ownership on Subeta, as well as a sign of its loyalty and kindness.

The kumos is a sturdy creature, with smaller members of the species weighing 30 lbs (13.6 kg) and larger ones weighing as much as 55lbs (25kgs)! Quite athletic, they can run swift, jump high, and chase for hours. A pampered pet kumos loves to have daily exercise, but they are also quite happy lounging in the sun or simply walking with their owners. Wild packs of kumos are rare, but they are extremely social, living in large groups and completing tasks communally. In the home, they adore the companionship of both people and other pets, and they will get along with anything from other kumos to felis to pherrets!

Their owners describe them as being the most loyal and loving of companions, but those that do not know their personalities as well sometimes compare them to felis - they consider them a bit aloof and ornery! It is true that a kumos can come across this way at first, but once they warm up to their owners, they are truly a loyal companion for life. More Subetans share their home with a kumos than any other species, and these owners would agree on one thing: nothing is more rewarding than having your kumos roll over for a good bellyrub, a sign of ultimate trust! Obtaining a kumos as a puppy is extremely rewarding. They may start off with almost blank personalities, but they will shape and grow with their owners, matching their own needs and moods, molding into what is considered to be near-perfection in a pet.
