I threw 500 snowballs and it was fun because I got to make it with two bulks of snowballs that got matched into themes somehow. I'm glad our team won, but not too happy upon knowing that there were people in both teams who cheated to get a higher score :(

I had a blast! Open up the Snow-Ball-Throwing-Thingie all year! I want to throw snowballs during Masquerade again!

Like others have said, it's pretty frustrating that two of the items I got were from this year...

Oh wow, I did not expect this. Thanks babes!

People were using auto-refreshers? I don't mean to sound rude or anything, but that's just being down right lazy! I mean think about it, all you have to do is let the auto-refresher play for you, (I don't know how auto-refreshers work. Never used one and I never will.) instead of you doing it yourself. If people say "Oh I used one because it was the only way to win" or "I used one to help my team" or etc, then that's not a good enough excuse. People who used Auto-refreshers had an unfair advantage over us who played fair. In all honestly I want to say I'm proud of my little score of 426 snowballs, because at least I threw them by myself; no auto-refresher needed ;)!!

That aside, this event was rather nice! Snowball fights (in RL) Are a lot of fun, so having a snowball fight on the site was nice :). The first few days were a lot of fun, but then it started getting a bit boring and I stopped throwing snowballs because I didn't feel like it and RL got in my way. But if this event came back next year, I say maybe next time put a time limit on when you can join, and possibly make it a bot shorter. If it's meant to be a mini event, the 5 days would have been very nice :3. But thanks for the event, it gave me a reason to throw snowballs at others and get the snowball throwing achievement c:.
2

Cavalier

I didn't like this competition because purchasing and throwing snowballs seemed unfair! I threw over 500 by hand and thought that would've been in the top numbers.
1

StarShadow

Totally agree with Botanist. No one said anybody had to join a team and if you don't have time to actually participate then don't join. Also there's no way they could calculate the win on total # of snowballs thrown unless both teams had the exact same number of members, so the average per member for the team is the only fair way to score it. If something like this is done again they need to have a cut off for joining and then start the event after that. Also don't make it drag out for so long that people get tired & bored.
1

Kaiidth

This is to the staff. I think next year it should be clear that its an average between the team, where as this year im sure a lot of people assumed it was amount total through in which case Dollys team would have won. That was not clear anywhere and i just checked again. Also melody items from the "current year" shouldn't be included in the prize pot it seems really unfair since they aren't technically retired. This is my opion and why i was upset because the rules weren't stated clearly. Overall i liked the event and think itd be fun in the future with a few tweeks.
1

Botanist

Er, Predator, are you serious? The event went on for days and it would take 1 minute to join a team and throw the 3 snowballs needed for the team prize, and a whole 10 minutes or so to earn the participation prize. Nobody 'needed' an auto refresher just to participate.

Also, my view is that if you don't have time to actually play the game, you shouldn't feel entitled to tiered prizes designed to reward people for choosing to put time and effort into Subeta.
5

StarShadow

I have never used an autorefresher and wouldn't even know where to look for one, but if that's how some people participated I agree with others that it sure sounds like cheating when the rest of us had to fire snowballs "in person".
Hope they get the HAs fixed soon.
0

Jasper

Botanist, if we couldn't use refreshers, I couldn't participate at all because I don't have the time to piss about here all day. You can poo-poo them if you wish but keep it to yourself.
0

Julie

Who knew you could throw 30k snowballs while you were sleeping. LOL.
Good for those who were able to figure out how to do that. LOL.
I'm happy with my 1,6k snowballs thrown. XD
0

StarShadow

Now if they can only fix our HAs and the disappearing clothes! I want my Samoyed back :(
0

Angst

@boxcutterbaby
It was lowered because the original top 10% had been miscalculated. There is a topic in the site feedback forum called 'Was it really the top 10%?' and around the middle of the 3rd page Keith explained it :)

"Unlocked Snowball Champion!
Be in the top 10% of snowball throwers during the Snowball War!"

I just got this and I'm very confused. I thought the top 10% was 30-ish thousand+? Which was about 20k more than I had at the end. Did they just lower it now or is this a fluke?
0

BlackCherry

Thank you so much for the prizes!
0

springjoy

Thank you for fixing the achievenent! Also I threw 30k ish but used mindless clicking while doing other tasks. I also threw many of mine the first day when there was basically one second between refreshes. I bet a lot of the top tosses got theirs in that way too.
1

StarShadow

Where did you read that? Was it in a news post I missed?
And what happened to my HA, a lot of stuff is missing from it suddenly including my beautiful new Samoyed.
1

Desolace

The top 10% are now at 4k if i read correctly... ^^

I think a lot of the negativity expressed towards this event is justified. It's to be expected especially if you invested a lot of time and money into something and basically got nothing worth your effort out of it. Many people have also been giving suggestions to make the event better as well. Personally, I think using auto-refreshers IS cheating because you've basically just gotten prizes for doing nothing? It's also unfair to those who actually put time and effort into participating. I don't know, it just leaves a bitter taste in my mouth and discourages me from even bothering with events like these. Anyways, it wasn't like the event was bad it just.. disappointing to say the least. That's all.

StarShadow

"You've earned the Snowball Champion achievement!"
Uh, yeah, I just now got this. Huh? I threw well over 6K snowballs. Did they lower the requirement for the achievement?

It was completely doable without an auto-refresher, and there were safeguards in place after the first day (the hash codes) to limit the use of the refreshers... I threw a huge amount of snowballs by watching TV/Movies while counting to 10 and then hitting f5. I will state that it was completely no fun, and not the kind of completely grinding event that I would like to see in the future... because that was all it was... a blatant sp sink where all you did was refresh pages(snowball shop/snowtapult). Unfortunately, there is no way to stop auto-refreshers without making it so that you'd have to go through the three step process EVERY time... and I know that a lot of people got their ridiculously high numbers on the first day before time limits and hash codes were introduced. I know that I had about a third of mine done that night when it was easy. I also will say that I would prefer it in the future if team-joining had a window which closed before the event started, and that you can't see the team stats until it starts. And to be completely fair, all safeguards should be in lace when the event starts... by now staff should know the modus operandi around here by now. I also think that there were enough unique prizes for just joining and participating that I didn't feel like a super desirable wearable needed to be the prize for the winning team, as it just causes upset and questioning. I felt like there was more than enough impetus to participate without the special prize, but that's just me. And while we're listing our dream wishlists here... I'd love to see anyone who doesn't earn the small special prize counted against the team in the final total. ;)

Twisted_Pretzel

There was a Trophy? dang-it.
0

Lillydivine

I'm just now hearing about the use of auto refreshers. If this is correct and some people were allowed to use auto refreshers, then that is nothing less than cheating.

If the players were informed of auto refreshers being allowed and also provided with access to those auto refreshers, then this would have been a fair fight.

Since it appears auto refreshers were allowed to be used and not everyone knew about it or had access to it, then this event was not in any way a fair fight.

Also, would you mind explaining exactly how the scoring was figured for the teams? It also appears, from what people are saying, that the scoring was off.
4

BabyGirl1516

i cannot see why everyone is so dang mad about this. its an event. you were NOT forced to join. you were NOT forced to throw X amount of snow balls, or spend X amount of time, or sp! Quit your whining
5

orbacle

so much whining, boohoooo shut up

good event overall, thanks staff :B
2

Steffy

Does anyone realize how ungrateful they sound with all of the complaining? The developers made an event, put time in effort into it and the creation of items, and all anyone can do is complain and bash. I cannot imagine how the people who work on this site feel when there is so much complaining.
8

SYLVAN

I really don't understand all of the rage over the prizes. o_o The first announcement about the contest was pretty straight forward concerning what participants were going to receive.
"For participating: Team-themed achievement and title
, 3 retired Melody’s Cottage items
, Trow Trophy for your profile!"

"In addition to the participant prizes, the winning team will receive:
2 extra retired Melody's cottage items and a special winter themed wearable."
"The top 10% of snowball throwers from either team will also receive a special achievement and title!"
That's it. It said NOTHING about a prize shop or any extra prizes other than what was already listed.
6

StarShadow

If something like this is done again in the future, couple suggestions. First, have a time limit for people to choose/join a team before the event starts and once it begins close the membership so people can't join at the last minute. And second don't make it drag on for so long. After a few days I was tired & bored with just sitting and clicking and had other Subeta things I needed to do, like buy WL presents for my friends.
And why isn't the snowtapult open?! I thought it stayed open until Dec. 31st. I was waiting for the contest to end so I could finally throw snowballs at my friends and now I can't.
5

Raggy

I really enjoyed it, it was a lot of fun, I dont know what to think about the prize scoring and how to make something like this fairer,I dont think its possible really, some people are happy to be here 24/7, some will use a program to throw thousands, some wont try at all, [like the only MM I did] if theres no prizes no-one would have done it, a prize shop would still let the highest scorers get the best things, who knows what to do?
The main thing for me is that it doesn't stop Subeta from still trying to make us happy and create these games for us, imagine if they said "sod it we're not going to bother any more" then where would be be? thank you Subeta.
2

Okiama

Doable without an AR*** sorry
0

Okiama

I think if auto-refreshers are allowed and Subeta doesn't want to ban them that they shouldn't make achievements such as requiring being in the top 10% tier. It forces anyone who wants to achieve it to use an AR. It isn't cheating because it isn't banned but it seems a bit unfair. Not saying I didn't like the event ir my prizes but I think an achievement that is doable with an AR like throw 5k snowballs would have been better.
3

Memorv

Yeah, no. Making it a different link with every click is about the worst idea ever. Most events require doing things over and over again and even if you don't use auto-refresh (I don't have a lot of experience with it, I don' usually use it) it takes forever and having to go back and click something new each time... just... no.
1

Evy

I threw 2k snowballs for Tobias, and got decent prizes in the line of what I expected (and what was announced in the news), so no complaint there.

However...
Quote by botanist:

The elephant in the room with events like this is auto-refreshers. ... This is why a prize shop on points would be inappropriate for an event like this, and why many people who worked hard had no chance of getting in the 10% - your frail human clicking finger was no match for tireless machines that played the game for people while they slept.
THIS ^

I manually threw my 2k snowballs, one by one, waiting 5 seconds between them, getting through the lag, and basically not doing anything else but sit there and click. People basically got an extra achievement and title for getting an autorefresher to do the work for them. There is no achieving anything that way. Either you make a strict rule on forbidding autorefreshers (and punishing people when caught), or you make sure ALL events are set up not to allow auto refreshers (different links with each click, or whatever would work).
I played it fair, and I feel like I got punished for it.

@Murph I'm not sure what it is about my post that irritated you so but, yes, I definitely see the difference, I made that point in my post as well. I hadn't noticed anyone complaining about it as such in the past, but yes I CAN see how ARs could be interpreted as cheating, especially for this mini-event, it's just... they're NOT cheating. Cheating is breaking a rule and, as you said, this site doesn't have one against the autorefresh addon. It is not dishonest or unfair to do something staff has given everyone the OK for, reluctant though it may be. It's not even really an advantage since everyone is allowed to use them...

The site often lends itself to the use of this program, the userbase has been repeatedly told they are not breaking the rules by using them, and they spread that knowledge to new users. If you've been told they're AOK since you were a newbie and encouraged to use them ever since, why would you worry now? Knowing you aren't going to get in trouble for using this tool, why would you think twice? Why would anyone who cared at all to win not use one, knowing that most other users would likely be using them and the only way possible to win would be to do the same? And knowing that, why would anyone who isn't using one be surprised not to win?

I'm with Botanist. Except it seems to me that we've already gotten to the point where ARs are necessary for top rewards. (Collecting all the morostide items/enough seasonal currency for the new year of items in any prize shop - even when I do use one I can't keep up!) We're already in a vicious cycle. People use ARs for events and end up with excess currency, they beg for more expensive/variety in prize shops, staff complies, people using ARs still have excess the next time around, but now those not using ARs can't keep up and are saving up their currency to buy everything they're missing or save up for the next year, staff sees our tills full and assumes we need more/more expensive items, if you don't have an AR you are hopelessly behind so you add one too just to keep up with the minimum. They seem pretty necessary to me. Did anyone in the top 10% of this make it there without ever touching an AR?
3

Kumquat

The fact that so many people are so upset by the RANDOM Melody items given out is just sad. They did not have to do this even and you are complaining about free prizes. Ungrateful people.
5

BoneCollector

may i be curious - what was the lowest needed to be in top ten if i may ask ??? for team dolly, does anyone know that ??
0

BoneCollector

oh damn i didnt make it to the top 10% :) i was aiming for the achievement and title but alas didnt had enough time to get there :(

but i did like the snowball fight it was fun to do in between and a nice surprise, something totaly different and it gave me what the news post told us we that we would get :) i just LOVE that little guy from the trophy very glad with that ( it has been a while that we could earn a trophy and this one looks great !!! thanks subeta-team

a little bit jealous that i choose wrong team because that backbground is very nice

congrats team tobias for winning !!!!
3

Botanist

Just got a comment on my profile from someone who thought I was calling them out specifically. Before anyone else takes it personally, I'm not calling out individuals who used auto refreshers (I couldn't even remember who made the comments I referenced), if anything I'm calling out Subeta's lax rules which only 'frowns upon' using auto refreshers. If we're asked not to use them because they lag the site and stop other people participating, but also told it's not a rule and there's no punishments of course people are going to use them and why wouldn't they?Every man for themselves, right? Just means that soon that'll be the only way to get top prizes in events. It's going to make the site such fun...

Again, I liked this event, and AR users didn't hurt me in any way because I wasn't going for the 10%. I think you gotta do something about it for future events, though, subeta team.
12

Kerowyn

And I didn't get my sled T_T
0

CastlesInTheSky

wait, what. people used auto-refreshers.
You mean I could have spent millions on snowballs, log onto this site on my other PC and hit an auto refresher for the 9 days or whatever it was on for. checking every so offten incase the "invaled hash" thingy showed up.
FFS, why did I do this the hard way of actually hitting f5 every few seconds.
4

usagi

@Kellijuana ToT, Dance, Kiss, flower "events" are exactly that. Events. Not competitions. Auto-refreshers give people an unfair advantage. Therefore, I'm not sure how anyone can think of them as not cheating unless they need a specific rule that says "auto-refreshers not allowed." ...which unfortunately this site does not have. Because what it boils down to... you're using a program / add-on to HELP you when it should just be you and your fingers. See the advantage? See how this can be construed as cheating?

Now, I realize setting up the auto-refresher and keeping it maintained required its own time, but that in NO way can be equated to the work of manually refreshing. I'm sorry, but it can't be compared.
4

Senti

I was on the Dolly team and threw 30,000 snowballs and got 3 prizes for all my hard work? I am NOT happy at all
5

Paddy

I'm pretty pleased with my score of 5,683 - I stood no chance of getting into the top 10% as I was determined to click myself, and not give in to using an auto refresher (boy do I wish I had stuck with it through the lag before the 5 second timer came in, as the other days I didn't have as much time to be online). Huge congrats to everyone for all the snowballs they flung, whether they threw 3 snowballs, or 100,000 ;)

....and if this will return next year, maybe there could be either some way to stop the auto-refreshers being able to be used (maybe the invalid hash could appear sooner or something), or to have more tasks to do (I like the suggestion of building a fort, gathering snow & providing cocoa - that would give us a bit of variety as well, rather than just hitting f5 until the writing wears off the key :innocent:)
1

Cinderella

I have the Achievment, but please @Keith can you give it too all they have over 10k thrown?
I have 41k but i think 10k is really amazing! And its Christmas time *.*

Kellijuana

I hope my post isn't being construed as 'mean' to people who threw less than 30k, that's not my intent. I'm not saying 'try harder/don't complain' I'm saying even trying your hardest, you can't always win. By all means, complain, vent, you are entitled to your feelings, but I'm giving perspective on why I figure it's really okay, there's no need to be upset.

From my pov all of this astonishment and irritation at not making the top/getting iffy prizes doesn't make sense. With the mass amount of people joining teams, making the top 10% was a long shot from the start and the prizes were to be random from the start. If you did the math to calculate exactly how many you needed to throw to be in the top, you forgot the 'secret sauce' to make up for slackers which you couldn't possibly know.

People are perfectly justified to be disappointed, but it wasn't unfair. Vent away, even better to those with ideas that can improve the event if they do it again or something similar. But I'm just sayin, no need to be angry at staff over losing. And you still got prizes. It's just a game. And this was just a mini-game of the game.

As to the elephant, I didn't know about them until joining here. I was under the impression that they are commonplace during events with tedious repetition (ToT, Dance, Kiss, flower - is it every event? The site is built for autorefreshing!) and was introduced to them as an acceptable way to make the most of events. People told me they aren't against the rules (and I checked around to confirm that) and I've never heard people get upset about them before this. I've definitely not seen people call it cheating until now, but I suppose that is because in the other events using autorefresh addons doesn't take away from anyone, just adds to what you have. In this case, (probably 90% of) the top 10% using them means no one else can have that title. :/ I imagine half the people using them only do so because it is not considered cheating.
3

usagi

I really appreciate that staff was upfront about the prizes. They clearly stated what was involved. Random melody items. A winter wearable for the winning team. Top 10% achievement and title. So why are people complaining? Did you think if you threw tens of thousands of snowballs, staff would change the prizes to reflect your effort (especially with auto-refreshing okay?)? I'm just trying to understand this here. :c I could understand it if staff didn't explain prizes upfront... but they did?

Botanist, I totally agree with what you're saying. Very well said. :)
5

Nonchalant

lol. Ok. Glad that went on so long for so little.
0

ChatLunatique

IDK about anyone else..., so many people complaining about the prizes, but I am thrilled with my winnings! Two books, one of which was on my WL, two nice minions for my gallery and a food item my gourmand wanted! Not to mention an awesome background and the adorable sled. I'm totally satisfied.
1

Botanist

The elephant in the room with events like this is auto-refreshers. This is the only game site of this type I know that doesn't ban them (yes, I know it's hard to enforce. So is the no under 13s rule, the no account sharing rule, no multiple accounts rule etc). I saw auto refreshers being openly discussed on the forums, tips on what websites or extensions to use, handy advice about how to get the best out of them (actual example: get up in the middle of the night when you've left it running to check you've not got the invalid hash error). This is why a prize shop on points would be inappropriate for an event like this, and why many people who worked hard had no chance of getting in the 10% - your frail human clicking finger was no match for tireless machines that played the game for people while they slept.

That said, I really enjoyed this event. The reward structure was clear so I could judge how much effort to put in, I thought the scoring system was fair, and I'm very happy with the prizes I got. Thanks Subeta!
18

grouse

I'm still interested in seeing the team scores without the excluded users who threw 0-1 snowballs. I crunched some numbers (which can be seen on the 10% board in Site Feedback), and, in order for the top 10% (actually 13% according to Keith) to be 38,332 and above, over 60% of users had to be removed from the scoring.

Surely removing the scores of that many users would have really altered the scoreboard! Can we please see the revised scores, as they were judged?
6

Egypt

Where can we view our trophies other than hovering over the HA and adding a thing to our profile?
I googled it but an old forum topic said they were called trophies a long time ago, and are 'now' called medals (but that was 2010), so now they are trophies again?
0

Flier

Psyched to receive my Shiny Toy Sled! That's all I wanted haha *o* Melody prizes? Quantitatively weren't great, but I mean they were indeed "random retired Melody items," or whatever it was, so no complaints there! (:

And er, the overall scoring for the two teams was actually hella fair? Like... an average? Of total snowballs thrown? By the number of people in a team? Makes it really fair? Like...? Am I missing something? ( 1) "oh hey look at all those people and snowballs on team dolly I bet they're winning I'm going to join and do nothing and win yeah" 2) "oh hey look team tobias has a higher score i bet they're winning i'm going to join and do nothing and win yeah" 3) "oh hey look at all those news comments and forum posts making it very clear that team tobias is winning i'm going to join that team and do nothing and win yeah" )

Anyway, I just wanted to thank whoever made the scoring an average because it's a fair idea so yeah, //gives you cookies because all these complaints man.
(b/c more people able to contribute despite more snowballs needed thrown.. should.. even..things.. out? ideally of course, it depends on who actually contributes, but yeah, the premise is indeed fair?) <-- repeating what a few others have already said on this newsfeed, but wanted more positive feedback in this sea of complaints haha
2

Egypt

I enjoyed this, but I think the complaints are valid... and those saying "try harder and don't complain" ...??? You probably used a refresh add-on. Fine, but when people who try to do it the real way can't throw 30k, don't be mean to them.
15

jKat

the prizes were already stuff I had? Didnt think much of this event but it is Christmas and most people were busy. Thanks for trying though.
1

Kellijuana

Did someone really just complain that it's no fair that they took the dead weight out of the team roster for score calculation?? o.O Didn't everyone just spend a week griping that they better take the freeloaders off the numbers or else it would unfairly tilt the score??? v_v *sigh*

Yes, your X-XX thousand is impressive, but realistically I didn't even think my 40k would touch the top 10%! Looking at the forums in the first couple days there were people at 30k when I hadn't even hit 5k. All you had to do was visit a few threads to see whether you really stood a chance. I can't see anyone under 30k being upset because if you had checked, you would have known right away that less than that had no chance and you could have stopped trying or amped it up. I can definitely see those in the 30-38k range being upset, but at the same time, it is the same kind of upset anyone gets when they try their hardest and lose. It happens. It's not unfair, it's competition. AND, in this case, even the losers got their cookies :D So take a breath, have a drink (Milk if you're not legal), and enjoy your melody items. ^_^

My prizes aren't expensive. I threw that 10mil or so in snowballs into the event (thank you Saggi weekend) simply to try to keep team Tobias as far ahead as possible because I didn't know how the 'secret sauce' would be applied at the end and didn't want to leave it a close game. If team Dolly won I would be bummed out to miss that bg, but I didn't expect my 10mil to guarantee me a win. We can't all win, and the way it was set up, the people with busy lives were counting on teammates with less to do or auto refreshers to win the prize for them. Not ideal but you knew that was the setup.

Ryna

Complain? complain more!

When you in hard time, when you get crap prizes, remember,
I HAVE 38K
Owl Snowball
EXTRAS IN MY SHOP T_________T
7

Thonnya

I enjoyed the snowball fight. I haven't been on Subeta that long but I like the prizes I got.
1

Angst

Oh man, I got unlucky with the random prizes and ended up with zero of the cooler Melody items even though I threw like 10k :c Oh well, maybe next time!
1

Hollykins

So please tell me how the main person, threw over 119k in snowballs. At 9 days with a 5 second delay, there is only 155,520 playable seconds. That means they slept for maybe 1 hour a day. I call BS on this whole thing... And if that was legit and thats the type of prizes the top players got I would be livid and demand a refund of the millions I put into snowballs.
16

acinonyxjubatus

I'm quite pleased with the turnout. I threw exactly 111 snowballs, got 5 Melody items (can't remember exactly which as some were food I fed to my Gourmand pet, but one was worth at least 1 mil), and happened to be on the winning team so I got the extra background and sled. Well worth it! Great job, Subeta team!
0

Nova

I knew there was no way I was getting any prizes for most thrown since someone topped 10K that second day or so. No sir, no time for that. Love the cute trophy though. The prizes were fine. I was worried that they would give the same melody items to everyone (as that was STATED as the prizes) and have the worth drop, glad to see it as a random thing. Yes, sucks for the people who threw a million, but at the same time, it was stated. Only expected to get the sled... glad I got the background, it's cute. SO HAPPY to see a work=actual winnings go around. SO much better than the "just join the most populated team" crap from the last game. How anyone can have any other view than that... after that fiasco is beyond me. Glad to see the prizes more evened out as well. Have to say although I was fine with the event prizes (got a background from my WL) I am looking forward to another event with a prize shop.... just because they're fun. Get on it Subeta. ;)
1

DebiLee

@Alenwen Thank you for reading it the same way I did! That's the way these things always are, a top group from each team, NOT combined! I wouldn't have spent so much and stayed on so long and tried so hard had I known it was combined, because all of the top throwers I knew (including my staff member friends, except one) were on the opposite team! What if 90% of the top 10% were on the same team? They really should have at least adjusted it to the top 20% if it was combined, which would also equal out the extremely fortunate untimed people with everyone stuck with both timers the whole time. (They could still go in and adjust it if they wanted it to be a bit fairer). I really don't think that people who invested the time, sP, and effort to throw 35K snowballs with both timers in place should be excluded (which I did NOT, by the way, lest people think that I'm saying this for my own personal benefit, which I'm not) should be excluded, while those who, as someone I saw put it, just "sat and mashed F5" for just a few hours ONE day should be rewarded! I genuinely believe that anyone who threw over 25-30K should be included.
1

Ferinsy

@Passus no, we just needed to do THE SAME effort than toy team to win. The score was based on the average snowballs thrown by each member (total of snowballs divided by the number of members). Actually, that was way fairer than counting the total. Otherwise, only when there were like... 10 in one team and 30 members in the other, everybody would start to join the team with more members.

This event was really fun for the first couple of days. I didn't go crazy throwing snowballs... (500-600) maybe that's why I'm not too upset with the results. Also, I think it was clear that the prizes would be Melody items. That means they could have been really great or really not-so-great. I understood that. I wasn't expecting something grand. I would just like to see it shorter if it were to happen again.

I went into this thinking I was coming out with a sled if my team won...so for me, the extra prizes (which some I already have) are like little bonus items ;) Thank you, it was a nice distraction. besides, I was really busy working, shopping and wrapping, etc. in RL, I didn't have time to throw thousands of snowballs at random people.
2

Ferinsy

@Alenwen I also thought that it'd be from EITHER team, not overall
1

Sovereign

this seems like a waste and thank god i didnt bother throwing more than almost 200 snowballs (although, life got in the way more with that than me just thinking this was pointless. if i wasn't sick and spent more than just the 2 minutes it took to check melody I'd probably have well over 1k at least.
)
but just. with how team dolly didnt win lbr, we had 888 more team players than toys. we even threw 1,638,582 more snowballs than them and still LOST by 86 points!! We (as a whole) had to work a hell of a lot harder while toys still won even with more than 1.5 million more snowballs thrown at them

in retrospect the way the point system was set up, it SEEMS fair but in all actuality this is... really disappointing and from my POV even the measly 200 i threw seemed rather pointless. Congrats would be in order if the numbers were closer and less of a the-more-we-threw-the-less-points-we-got, kind of feeling. i might be a poor sport for this but. yeah. this wasnt really worth it. :(
4

Ferinsy

If possible, I wish an adm could answer:
Which criteria was used for the prizes?

I mean... I wanna know if any of those methods were used:
1) if (for example) between 2 of the most rare Melody items: item "A" still has 10 actives duplicates around Subeta (not counting collections, but possibly counting wardrobe) and item "B" has 100 duplicates, it means item "A" will be rewarded proportionally more than item "B" (10x more, actually);
2) just verified the most rare items and they were awarded randomly and in random amounts;
3) verified the most rare items and they were awarded randomly, but approx. the same amount of each item was released.
0

Alenwen

I can't believe that the 10% starts at 38k when so many people just signed in and didn't throw alot of snowballs at all.
Also, the 10% has to be different for each team. The news said
Quote:
The top 10% of snowball throwers from either team will also receive a special achievement and title!
which means 194 of team Tobias and 282 of team Dolly with a different minimum score.
5

Memorv

Oh! What about a leaderboard?
2

metal

"throw millions of snowballs for a week and get like 4 prizes guys. lel suckers"
10

Ferinsy

O_o I thought I'd be nice with 13k+ snowballs for the 10%, but 38k? That's insane!
I'm sad I wasted lots of sP throwing for cheap items and didn't get the special item
But also glad I didn't wasted more just for one item

I got older melody stuff, but it was stuff I already had. Oh, well.
I'm ok with it since I can probably use it in galleries or treasures.
0

Francine

I don't know, I had a good time and that's all that matters to me :3
2

forcryinoutloud

Really wished we'd known going in what the prizes were going to be because the three melody items I got were ones I could have bought myself and saved several MILLION SP. I wouldn't have taken part at all. How utterly disappointing that so little reward was given for so much time, effort and SP spent.
6

FCoD

I had fun, and thanks for the items. I am still going to need that background at some point, lol.

I'm happy with my contribution because head, neck and shoulder problems don't allow for as much snowball chucking as I might want. :)
0

Glitter

This was fun! Just wish I could have thrown faster! LOL
2

Melody

This was a fun little mini-event to have. :) Thanks!
3

Zekumi

This seemed like it was intended to be a small, easy fun kind of activity to me. I sympathize with people who threw thousands of snowballs with objective of getting in the top percent, but I don't think this was the event to really get your expectations high on.
9

Hellbent

Okay so, 13k+ snowballs thrown X 250 a snowball = more than 3 million sp.

Out of my 3 items, based on the current prices, I get: a Peppermint Coated Hosiery Box wearable that I'm a little iffy on for 100k, a Book of Ice (whoo books!) worth 700k, and a Reindeer Snowman minion that I don't really want but also doubt anyone will want to buy because the current price is 19 million.

Overall a pretty great investment if the reindeer snowman sells.

I have 2 regrets, one is that I didn't get into the top 10% but, uh. real life responsibilities, yeah. How the top thrower had over 100k snowballs at the end of this I will never know, especially considering most of my 13k came from the first day when it didn't have the 5 second per throw on it. And two is that I joined a team immediately when there were only like 20 people signed up instead of finding out the rules before I did. It's frustrating that even though Dolly's team threw what, one and a half million more snowballs than Tobias', we still lost. I understand the scoring system, but that doesn't make it less frustrating.
1

nut

Holy shit. 38k+ snowballs for the top 10%? I honestly thought I was fine with 16k but fuuuuck.
3

Jinjah

Which retired Melody items did you actually think would be worth the effort of throwing thousands of snowballs? Reading this page of complaints is very tedious. Note to self: Click page off.
8

springjoy

I threw 36k and my prizes weren't amazing. Was hoping for some really old melody not this years stuff. But I'm only sad I couldn't quite get that top tier. Congrats tobites!!
1

StarShadow

Just because Dolly had more member and threw more snowballs doesn't mean they should have won. It was an average of snowballs thrown per team member, take total # of snowballs thrown by a team and divide by # of members. Perfectly simple and fair.
5

Spectra

Thank you for the items and trophy! I apologize for the complainers, can't please everyone but you did a good job!
1

Digitalis

The two of the three Melody items were, funnily enough, ones I already own 😂 Darn lol.
0

Jasper

Subeta's really got to work on it's scoring system. Wars like this should be all about numbers and Dolly's team threw more and had more members and yet we still lost to toys. :/ Don't really care about the prizes but at the same time, I feel like my efforts were wasted.
12

Tarnished

look at everyone complaining about the prizes when it said it would be melody items from the start
amaze
11

Seoni

Honest opinion? The prizes (I got something from THIS YEAR) were not worth the cost of the snowballs or the amount of time put into throwing the snowballs. The event dragged out. Good idea, poor execution.
12

stars_water

We threw about a million more snowballs, and they get the background.
I personally threw 2,000 snowballs. I get three extra, uninteresting prizes, with two being food and one being hair that I would never wear.

....Yeah. That seems fair. Can't say I didn't see this coming, though. I never throw enough sP into events like this, and by the logic on my typical circumstances it only stands to reason that the one time I do, I don't get anything worthwhile for it.
11

Elsa

There was always an element of risk that you wouldn't get what you wanted, and I think that while it's too bad that you spent so much sP and didn't get an expensive prize, you did choose to throw without any knowledge of what you might get, besides the fact that they would be old Melody items.
5

ZaneFame

Great event. Poor execution. The prizes were definitely not worth it. Maybe next time have 3 or 4 teams instead of just 2? Also did everyone get the same Melody items or were they random? Because mine were definitely not worth the trouble of all that snowball throwing.
4

InkSpell

This was really fun. And what a lovely background!
4

ren

happy that i got as many prizes as i did while only throwing 2k snowballs :)!
1

Mike

I think it's rather ridiculous that people are complaining about the prizes when the prize system was clearly stated at the beginning of the event. I mean i'm disappointed I didn't get in to the top 10% because I would have liked to, but I didn't throw enough, I knew what I was doing and though I hoped for the top I knew it was unlikely. And it clearly says that if you're not in the top 10%, then you get the same prizes as everyone else who got earned the team item even if they scraped by and you were 1 point shy of the top. That being said I do think it's pretty messed up to give us a running count of team members and points and whatnot and then in the end not count that the same way when you have a top % prize system like that.
10

Speiro

Scoring issues aside, that background is exactly what I was hoping it would be, and I'm so glad I got it. :D
3

Faeflower

I don't understand taking out the 2 and under snowballs thrown for the 10% because they count towards each teams average snowballs thrown. So out of convenience for the 10% they are taken out? They should have counted regardless because they are a part of the team, if you are going to calculate everything that way.
4

StarShadow

It looks like I got the same prizes as players who threw 1/10th the number of snowballs. Odd. And I already have 3 of the 5 random Melody prizes. Guess they'll go in my vault. I like the backdrop but not sure about using it now, maybe save it for next December.
But why is the snowtapult still closed? I thought it stayed open until December 31st. I had lots of friends I couldn't fire snowballs at and was waiting for the contest to be over so I could, and now I can't. :( Please open the snowtapult until New Years?
4

HYPEBEAST

Thank you to the devs for the prizes. Yeah, my team didn't win but I still had fun talking to team members. I hope everyone had a good holiday.
1

LunaWolf

Fun idea, horrible execution... Prize shop would have been nice for those who really did work hard
disappointed like most on the amount of sp spent for 5 items a winning team background(totally awesome and worth it) and the toy sled i wanted

I suggest a plot for next year, idk the normal snowpault broke maybe we should build one for our team and like mentioned a snow fort should be build, as well as a joining deadline

anyhow enough griping, I did have fun and it was a simple event(bit drawn out) thank you subeta team for putting it together
6

Jabberwock

Caroling Harvester Plushie yay♥️
That alone covers what I spent on snowballs.
1

bipolarness

I LOVE my prizes! Candy Cane Present
Rudolf the Red-Nosed Antlephore Headband
Snow Cubbytail
Cozy Fireside Laskie Sticker
Festive Notebook
Big Ol Pile of Snowballs
Shiny Toy Sled
1

LadyTamarwen

We had to work 3 times as hard because we chose the wrong team. I wish I had not wasted my time on this. The idea was neat, but I am unhappy with the end result. I just rather pretend it didn't happen, as I was quite pleased with Melody's gifts. That would have been enough for me.
19

Asellus

And here I found throwing my 300 someodd tedious once the timer went into effect. Clearly I am more of a casual player. Got a wearable worth 500k and two cheap stickers. Seems okay to me, feel bad for people who spent a billion hours and got junk.
6

Sasuke

Weird, I got 3 crappy item I could get anytime, and a candy thing. While my buddy who threw less snowballs then I did got 5 items.
Don't get me wrong it was fun, just wish the prizes were a tad bit better.
11

StarShadow

The background is great, thanks.
0

Lindsie

This event was really fun but these prizes are AWFUL lol.
3

Yea, I'm mad because I threw 33k+ snowballs and got crappy prizes.
7

sigh. I got items that I already had...
2

Soooo the people who tried to use math to determine the amount of snowballs they needed to throw to get in the top 10% got shafted because you changed the number of people who counted at the end.
K then.
16

Keith

The highest amount thrown was 119,231 snowballs (w.o.w)
2

Clarence

Ohhhhhh i got a thriff plushie and a yoole 25m in profits and i still lost <3
1

Keith

The team numbers only included people who threw at least 2 snowballs, by the end, btw :)
0

Wik

:T Is this a joke? 5 random items I could have bought myself for peanuts?
What a disappointing end to the event
13

MapleRose

I'm curious, what was highest number of snowballs thrown by one person?

I threw 39K, glad I didn't give up at 37K... but yeah, a tiered prize system or like a point shop would've been better. I don't regret sinking so much sP and throwing so much snowballs ('cause it was fun hanging out on the team thread for the past week), but I do feel bad for people who contributed a lot and still didn't get the 10% and feel it's kind of unfair to them.
4

egg

WELP, SHOULD'VE SAVED MY sP BECAUSE I COULD'VE BOUGHT THESE JUNK ITEMS FOR LESS THAN I SPENT JUST SAYING.
23

Dandelina

Thank you for the lovely background :)
1

Mandy

Wow, you scored 512 in the snowball war! You've got 3 random melody items and your team prize in your inventory!

And I thought throwing 500 took forever...
2

Arbor

I totally forgot to mention that I think the prizes are super pretty, haha. The background is great TC material for me, but it's so pretty as a BG. Terribly appropriate!
1

Faeflower

Thank you, Laurey, for saying.

Pretty background!
0

Arbor

Haha, I already had all of those items apparently. Not terribly unexpected - I was in it for the title/achievement.

It is a little bit uh. ...it's a little funky, how the event went. I missed the first day, so I was pretty stinking behind because I missed the no timer day. (I did manage to make it anyway,) but anyone who missed a day or two would have been really stinking penalized. If you didn't get in early, there was almost no point in getting in and tossing more than the bare minimum.

If there is another snowball war next year, it would be nice to figure out something beyond "how long can you sit on subeta," and actually engage the attention of users. A list of steps to complete, maybe. "This year we are really serious. Help us build forts, gather snow, provide cocoa for morale!" or something else silly. Or I saw a few people on the forums suggesting a prize shop where the snowballs thrown was your points number.

Unless you specifically wanted the title and got in early there just wasn't much reason at all for people to join in.
22

Ziorac

The maths is all wrong for the 10%, but that's already been noted. Also the 316 an hour during the entire event thing realistically means that the people who were in that '10%' (it's no way actually 10%) were part of the people who used the first few hours of the event before the 5sec wait time to just hold down F5 and get in like 30-50k during those few hours.

I gotta say, honestly, I am disappointed. the prize system is just... Sad. A shop of some sort would've been much better. I threw 18k, spent millions of sP and I got 2 items I can't even use and a wardrobe item. No choice even.
Really hope there will be a feedback option for this event, cause it's needed. Fun idea, horrible execution.
19

cherice

I thought that after the BotB and how everyone screamed "unfair" that this scoring system was awesome. I guess some people will never be pleased. I loved it and had a great time!
3

Keith thanks for the clarification.

2

This was pretty fun, and the items aren't so bad. I wish I could've done more, but I got a neat background, so that's pretty cool.
1

Ravage

What a disappointment and waste of sP. I want a refund.
21

Hollykins

Mathematics show 316 snowballs would need to be thrown every hour to reach 38k. Who the neck has that much time?! Redic. Anyone who works for a living or has a family had NO CHANCE of winning.
7

TracyH

Thanks so much to the staff for making another fun event. This site rocks!
1

WhiterWinter

Who is in charge of the math here anyhow?! LOL
2

Kaiidth

I didn't get the background and two of the items where from this year was it random? I was on dollys team. What is the backdrop everyone got?
0

Natsume

I thought the top 10% was going to be for each team not combined teams. :I oh well
And damn, you had to throw pretty much 40k snowballs to get in the 10%?? I shouldn't have even tried. ;w; I can never beat you people xD
Anyone know what the 2 extra prizes were? The three I got 1 I had already.
1

CastlesInTheSky

Wow, you scored 5001 in the snowball war! You've got 3 random melody items and your team prize in your inventory!

I gave up. It was too long and too tedious.
3

omg, I got a wishlist item for my gallery, so happy!!! Thank you!
0

Hetty

oooh love that background, and my sled :) I really do enjoy throwing the snowballs, I wish some of them could become all year round wearables!
1

Tserel

I got into the top 10% with 40k snowballs thrown and I was lucky enough to get an old item that pretty much covered the cost of snowballs. But if I hadn't gotten that lucky, I assure you it would not have been worth it. The other prizes were not worth the effort if I would have gotten the background from being on the same team anyway. I definitely agree that a tiered system would have been the way to go here. It just rewards everyone for the effort they put in, regardless of what team they were on. It really sucks that some people could put in 35k+ but not be in the top 10% and basically get nothing because they didn't get lucky. That's tons of time and money out the drain. Just my two cents as someone who got lucky.
17

PoodlePuff

Further to the other post below, a total of 9853346 snowballs were thrown. This number divided by 38332 would mean that only not more than 257 could have come within the top 10% however this number is almost half what 10% of players would be. Considering that the other 90% threw snowballs it would seem that only 5% of participating players were awarded the top 10% achievement.
3

Speiro

Maybe I'm missing something.
That's actually a good point. Even if you factor in both teams, it still comes out to around 20k apiece for the top 10%, and that's assuming the other 90% didn't throw anything. That doesn't make a lot of sense.
22

Laurey

Big Ol Pile of Snowballs
^ Name of the background

DreamsInPink

So glad I didn't put a lot of time and sP into this event.
2

Wow. My 16k didn't stand a chance. So that was a waste of sP. :P
11

Nano

I guess the top 10% are everyone from the highest amount (like 44k?) to the highest amount-10%? But i think some three more so thats probably not it. Sounds more like only the top 1% got it.

...So yeah disappointed that I didnt get the achievement, 18 k wasnt that much but I hoped that it would be enough D:

The idea was cute though, I also finally got the snowball achievements, so yeah %D
2

Song_745

Wow, you scored 1125 in the snowball war! You've got 3 random melody items and your team prize in your inventory!

I don't feel as guilty for my low numbers now. Not thrilled with the prizes, but I'm pretty relieved that I didn't miss out on a ton of cool stuff for not participating as much as I would have liked.
3

SeriousGreen

Great fun...thanks Team Subeta!!!
0

Satyr

i feel like the prize structure would have benefitted a bit more from a tier system on this. i threw 16k or so snowballs in the process of the event, having learned way too late that i was nowhere near the top 10%. if i'd known that, i wouldn't have contributed as much as i did, and probably stopped after the 50 or however many i needed to get the team prize. in either case i made out the same, which is discouraging, to say the least.

i dunno, it was a cute idea for an event, but in practice it pretty much just worked out to be an autorefresher exercise. probably would have been better suited to a two day, weekend event, especially considering the rewards.
28

Ryna

I made it to 10%, I CRAI SO HARD!

I thought its impossible for me ;-; Thanks for the prizes even though we lose xD
2

Dobby

If my calculations are correct, the top 10% all spent over 53 hours straight throwing snowballs
Now that's some dedication, haha! Congrats guys!

Thanks for the lovely background and sledge :)
1

Klassikal

I really hope you set up a feedback form like you did for a previous event. There was so many things that needed to be changed if this is held in the future.
17

hermes

already had 2/3 melody items i was given in my wardrobe, 3rd was a plushie so it's likely i've had that at some point, too. well, that was certainly not worth the 27k snowballs thrown LOL. gj to those who made the top 10% though.
2

Hamda

question, why are some people getting 5 random melody items and others 3?
4

PoodlePuff

I'm confused, 4768 people entered so 10% would be 476. If only the top 10% threw snowballs and all threw the same amount then the cut off would be 20700. As the bottom 90% also threw snowballs and some of the top 10% have thrown more than 20700 the cut off should have been below this amount.

I don't know why the cut off is therefore around 38K.
12

Me-Guru

Thank you for the prizes ~ ^.^ ~
1

Blanche

Hm. I didn't really expect to make it to top 10% myself, given the sort of numbers I was seeing on the boards, but the cutting point feels rather curious to me.

If Dolly has 2,828 members, then the top 10% are 282 people; if 282 people had thrown the 5,745,964 total snowballs Dolly had all by themselves, each would have had a score of around 20,376 snowballs. 38k?

Maybe I'm missing something.

Wow, you scored 48131 in the snowball war! You've got 5 random melody items and your team prize in your inventory! And you've got the Big Ol Pile of Snowballs for being on the winning team! And you were in the top 10% so you've been given an achievement and title!
2

FLUX

Legit probably the worst prizes for an event xD
24

Arkanea

Got top 10% with 47k but got the 3 crappiest melody items worth 50k sp...Ok.
3

Reo

Disappointed that I got a random MM item from this year and I didn't care for any of the other 4, but I love the background and the sled! So I am happy. Although after throwing 8000 snowballs, I feel like I spent too much time on this refreshing event, so I can't imagine what the people who threw thousands more feel.
3

Romaki

Thanks for the concrete number, that's really a lot more than I expected.
2

Lantern

I'm sorry but those prizes don't make up for the millions of sp and time spent from throwing snowballs.
15

Wooooo! Awesome, thanks! Happy Team Tobias won, it was an amusing event. Went on a little longer than I cared for, but it was fun.

18

Ooopps! I got the necklace too. I guess "prizes" was not supposed to be plural for some :)
0

Thanks for including the number on the trophy, I like that. :)

And I'm really wondering how many snowballs you had to throw to get the achievement, considering someone with 21k didn't get it.
2

Amber

We used Melody items that were rather expensive, so you might get an item or two from this year (such as those multiple use items ;))
1

CakeMoose

Aww the Big Ol Pile of Snowballs is adorable!
Considering I only had time to throw 480, I'm completely content with my prizes :)
2

I just changed the text to clarify, the "other items" is your team / special prize for being on the winning team / etc. It's clarified and clearer to read now :)

I got the old Melody items, but I don't think I got the "few other prizes" it's saying? Or was that the Sweetie Cane Necklace?

Keith

@spiffy - We laid out the prize structure at the start, this was meant to be a small thing where participation was absolutely optional. Sorry you didn't get in the top 10%!

"You've got 3 random melody items and a few other prizes waiting in your inventory!"

Just out of interest what were the "few other prizes" supposed to be? I only got the three Melody prizes and nothing else. Is this what I was supposed to get?

Moyoleuhqui

Seeing other's scores, and I threw only around 760. I am not a 10% for sure xD

Hamda

threw 42.5K snowballs and I got into the top 10%

Choco

It was fun. :D

Over 35k snowballs and no achievement, how many were people throwing my god

Memorv

Now all that's left is the prize shop...

Lore

-sigh-
Well at least the necklace is edible for my food pet.

Tiered prizes for any similar future event would be nice.

I'm still baffled that I threw 32,000 snowballs and didn't make top 10%.

I guess that's all I wanted to say.

Zelor

Darn, threw 21k snowballs and didn't get in the top 10%. >.<

I love the retired Melody items I got though!
1

KiaArra

I threw just over 15k snowballs, not in the top 10% And that was literally throwing snowballs every 5 seconds while I was online, how did you top 10% find the TIME to throw that many snowballs!
3

Keith

@springjoy I see the three melody items, and the candy necklace in your inventory. That's all you should have got :)

Holly

oh my lord
seeing the awarded forum title makes me wish i would have gotten in the top 10%
Title: Ballin

Futurama

Because I got the necklace 4x, I didn't get the better random items I got the first time around. -_-

Francine

Wow, you scored 41685 in the snowball war! You've got 5 random melody items and a few other prizes waiting in your inventory! And you've got the Big Ol Pile of Snowballs for being on the winning team! And you were in the top 10% so you've been given an achievement and title!
