Shinwa Revamp

So I don\'t really know what\'s in the water this month in Saherimos, but I\'m feeling AMAZING. Feel free to stop by my Temple to see me some time. You can help me find my forever missing jewelry, or just sit and have a bit of a gossip on my fluffy pink furniture. What do you mean a goddess shouldn\'t gossip? I can\'t help myself. It can get so incredibly DULL living in exile. I could do with a vacation! I wonder if anything fun is happening next month that I can sneak away to partake in?

so true on both sides of the argument every time, doesn't matter which side >_>
just a lack of respect amongst people who have different opinions.

Guess who else has rosacea? Real people. It'd be kind of refreshing to see a character like me, honestly.
That being said, there's a difference between "her tattoos don't really look like tattoos" or "a skin condition doesn't seem like a good fit for a goddess who's supposed to be barely human" (< though I never really got that impression of Shinwa, personally... she's human or at least human look, just powerful) and "SHE LOOKS LIKE SHE HAS A DISEASE EW".

My favorite part of about Subeta revamps is coming into the comments and seeing all the complete assholes come out to play "freedom of speech", because then I know who to never ever talk to.
I don't think the problem is weight at all. The proportions in her face and neck appear off. The feather cuts off her neck and it sort of makes it look too thin for the rest of her body. With her hair obscuring her cheek that way, it also makes her head look disproportionately large to the rest of her body. I think a number of other people have said something similar. There's a good chance they won't update it based on these critiques but eh. :)

@Snowflake

This just in. Unrevamped Shinwa was a pornstar.
@Mayonaka Maybe Shinwa is a little person. ?_? Though my elbows go to my waist, and hers look about that (though the belt kind of skews your perception) Also I think quite a few proportions are off, but this art is so much better than the old one, that I don't even care. It also has 100x more personality.
But if you really like the old art, I'm pretty sure you can use some custom CSS to replace this one with the unrevamped. :3

ikr
its not like the majority of the npcs are still very thin and conventionally attractive or something

The art is beautiful.. and she's freaking adorable... Thank you Subeta's staff and artists. I love you guys. No seriously. All these beautiful real body types. THANK YOU!
On the other hand, how cool is it that Subeta has active, hard-working artists that listen to critique and are doing their best to revamp old art, because Subeta is putting its foot down re: succumbing to neglect, letting datted things collect dust, like some other related sites? There's a bit of prodding going on, but also legitimate discussion over the art, and the fact we have an open forum to do that and like-minded mods and staff that care about feedback and assuring quality content is awesome.
Squished shoulders. But I love you Subeta. And Shinwa.

No, you're right, they don't. The shape of her breasts always bothered me too, because it'd take a serious bra to get her boobs to look like that and she doesn't appear to be wearing one. I wasn't saying to stick with the old artwork though, I was saying I'd rather they stick with something closer to her old proportions.
The face, huh? And the arms, mind you. Namely the fact that her elbows reach barely below her breasts, which is more typical for larger people.

I don't see why people are calling the revamp fat... she just looks healthy... that's a good thing. Also - her boobs aren't "big" at all. They look proportionate to the rest of her body, and she looks more like an actual person.
I like it!

lol nothing wrong with implants either. i'm not against plastic surgery. people who want them or have them shouldn't be shamed. :)

This is like such a weird one-up competition on right/wrong just chill a little
if I were to give any actual criticism and probably echo a few others, yes, she is disproportionate. The torso is just a bit too small and short given how much larger her head and arms seem to be in comparison. Her fingertips would probably reach her knees if she relaxed her arms, from my judgement of where her hip starts. Generally the longest finger on the hand should stop about mid-thigh so, that's where that i guess very rough judgement comes in. If you made her midsection a big longer and just a little bit broader it would look lovely.
Honestly everything else about this is great. i love the shading and the linework!

@Mayonaka The point is actual boobs don't fall like that. Even fake ones don't sit like that. The art overall was terrible and outdated and in bad need of a revamp. Tits don't looks like oranges stuffed in a shirt, period.
In the revamp, she isn't a 80lb Barbie-wannabe. She's average sized with large REAL LOOKING BREASTS.
The only thing that makes her look fuller is her face, and that's misleading. She has a normal figure.

I... haha wow okay I missed some drama, but uh -- gonna comment again because this revamp is bothering me a bit in some ways, even though the quality of art is obviously so much better!
Which, okay, yeah, I'll start off by saying that oh god the art quality, so much better, thank you lord. I really adore the shading in this, god in general the coloring is just wonderful, and I love that she no suffers from that awkward "I did not want to draw the second hand so it is hiding" thing. I absolutely love her updated outfit, it's gorgeous!! I adore how detailed it is, and those tattoos are great!
I think the thing that bothers me mostly is that her face seems very.. big. Not, like, chubby or whatever people are carrying on about, just-- disproportionate. Her shoulders are very slender in comparison, and her hair partially covering them makes them look even smaller, and it's really throwing me off! If her shoulders were widened (or her head shrunk down a bit I suppose), that would make a huge difference. Wider hips might help further balance it out too but I suppose it's a little late for that hahaha.
I'm also, yeah, thrown off by how young her face looks; I had always figured that the similarity with her and Amy was more the hair than features, and none of the previous illustrations of Shinwa made her look quite this young (though admittedly they were basically all pretty generic and anime-ish, so it may have just been my interpretation!)
The tone of the post, also, feels odd to me? While, yeah, she does have the whole thing with her bracelet going on, she sounds like a total teenager in this post? I'm not sure if I've missed some characterization down the line or if this is more just an intentional personality revamp, but she between the tone and the surprisingly young-looking face, she feels like a totally different character to me. I went back and reread her SubetaPedia articles as well as the last page of the Omen Islands plot, and it's just.. she feels very different, and while I'm sure I'll get used to it, it'll take a while because she's such an old character on the site, who now feels so different. This is a pretty jarring change, even if it does help make her more unique!

Haha wow, I sure do love coming online to this fictional world in which females have totally different body types and fat distribution on their bodies! It's such a novel experience! I mean, it's not as though women are individuals with distinct bodies in the real world...
Oh wait.
Seriously though would you still rather have the eye-searing "How To Draw Anime" looks from 2007? Every revamp is a vast improvement and I appreciate them so much. "Fat" is not an problem, fat is a fact of existing in a body, stop acting like it is and recognize that no one (not even fictional characters!) has an obligation to be "pretty" for you.

Your point? You know if we're talking about making someone larger to fit the fat content of their boobs or making their boobs smaller to match the fat content of the rest of them, I would have rather had the latter for Shinwa. Although the argument can be made too that some women do just have ridiculously large breasts for their size.

That is.... a very horrifying looking face. I think it's the mouth and nose that kill it for me, if they were a bit smaller, I think it would look much better. She doesn't look fat to me, but that face is just terrible :c

@kitestrings
When I started gaining weight, this is pretty much what my proportions were like. Except I had wide hips, but I always had wide hips, so :)
Seriously, Shinwa is probably the closest I'm going to get to actual body shape representation, even if we have different waist sizes. If you think there are too many fat characters, I'm going to tell you to open the TV, or a magazine and look at how many fat people are showcased as beautiful.

FEAR THE ANIME. HATE THE ANIME. KILL THE ANIME. Seriously though the new designs have so much personality, I love them, please never stop.

@introvert
what does breasts have to do with anything? i've seen thin and large women with various size breasts. o.O

people calling her fat sound like they've never seen a person who weighs more than 100 pounds in their life or something. i WISH she was fat because the world will never have enough fat characters and i'd have another reason to love her.
btw i think she looks great, even if her proportions seem a little strange. i think her dress is betraying her body and making her head look too big. the details on her belt are fantastic though, and her hair looks lovely. she's got a round friendly face and i love the revamp. her old image was sooo old.

Did you miss the part where unrevamped Shinwa had inflatable balloon titties?I gotta say that Shinwa is where I draw the line. I'm all for diversity, but diversity does not mean completely getting rid of the skinny in all of the characters, and I liked Shinwa the way she was.
Welp, incase you missed it:

I do like her cheeks! A lot of people, including myself, have cheeks like that when they smile. They become more apple-like. They're sweet!

She looks gorgeous! Bit horrifying that people are claiming she's fat and awful now, have they ever actually seen real people or do they live backstage at a fashion show? I really hope her belt in a clothing item soon too.
As for the kid look, yes she does look like a kid, but I stopped for a moment and tried to imagine her with some eye shadow and mascara for a lot longer of eyelashes. She looked a lot older if you try to envision her with that. She really could use a little makeup :P

Yes! The feather is definitely part of the problem. I think between her hair, her hand, and the feather, there's just way too much obscuring her upper body and it's hard to discern her actual proportions.The way the she's holding the feather makes it seem like her neck is super thick and her shoulders super small. Something going on with the torso too.
Wow, okay so it's starting to look like ALL of the NPCs are gaining weight. Honestly, I don't really mind it because some of them look really good that way, but I gotta say that Shinwa is where I draw the line. I'm all for diversity, but diversity does not mean completely getting rid of the skinny in all of the characters, and I liked Shinwa the way she was.

Her face does look round/chubby. Maybe because of her hair? Maybe because the artist wanted it to?
I think the pose is what throws me off. The way the she's holding the feather makes it seem like her neck is super thick and her shoulders super small. Something going on with the torso too.
To be honest I don't think I would have loved it unless it had been changed more. I absolutely hate her stupid hair. I always have. I really like the coloring on the hair though and she has nice hair accessories now.
At least she doesn't have those awful pink bars anymore and her clothes are gorgeous.

She looks so much younger now. In her previous images I thought she appeared early 20s, but in this one she looks like she's 12.
Girl needs a new weave. I like the revamp (and there's no denying she needed it), but her hair looks kind of flat perspective-wise. And those bangs make her jaw look way wider than it is, which is throwing off her whole face for me.
Other than that, it's a great revamp. Her dress is beautiful and I like her new figure. :)

Oh my gosh. This is probably my favorite NPC revamp! Her hair! Her face! Her outfit! Oh my gosh she's so cute!

As in would you create those items as wearables? XDWhen her wearables do get revamped, would you please, please, please include that gorgeous belt, her necklace and that little head jewelry chain of hers?

I love this revamp, just so beautiful, and she looks so much more like a real person now. And I want that BELT as a Quest item! Can't wait to see what she's hinting at upcoming, too!

@gemajgall THANK YOU for pointing it. I had the same feeling. Face and arms are so disproportional to that thin waist that it looks really weird to me. I guess she needs some apparent weight or a thinner face (and less muscled forearms). The potato nose is something that needs to be change no matther what, it doesn't match her face.
And I'm missing the anime/manga appearance Subeta NPCs used to have (even though the new art is pretty cool).

@Christopher
No, that's not what I'm saying! I'm saying her pre-revamp image from so long ago has arms so skinny it's not even within the human range, while she's got gigantic breasts. That's not an accurate representation of a skinny person, either!

Wow, i have to say I don't like the revamp. I don't think she looks plump though, she just looks like a completely different person :/ and disproportioned. She looks more like that kid Cinthia.

Good to see dem new community guidelines meant anything, yay. If you're not going to use them, get rid of them.
