Legacy Name Removal

A new cleansing pool has been unveiled at the Shengui Guo Bathhouse! Should any of your pets wish to forget their legacy names, they can now take a dip in the 'Fresh Start' pool and never have to think about their old names again.

This package is free and unlimited - of course, while you're at the bathhouse maybe something in the gift shop will take your fancy, you shouldn't leave without at least having a look around!

Note:To help everyone find this feature, links have been added to the Pets page and the Change Name page.

@Bug
It is more clear now with the confirmation messages! thanks!! <3

I'm frustrated, because I still want to change and hunt for legacy names. If there's an open name for a legacy name, why can't I change a current pet's name to that and claim it so that their legacy and actual name match? Why did you take away all the functionality of the pet name token? There's still value in changing the legacy name, even if you won't be clearing old names anymore. I'm eyeing a name that's never been taken but because I can't change names anymore, I can't put it on an older pet I want to keep because I don't like that it doesn't match, but I don't want to wipe it and have it blank. Everything about this sucks. There was a way to do this to make it work for older users and newer users and it looks like you chose to only work with newer users.

@Bug Thank you for the ping! And for just being so helpful in general! You're awesome!
Bug
@Galaxy I just found this suggestion topic with similar ideas: Topic: Please make it (much) harder to remove the legacy name.
Galaxy
@Bug Okay. (I was not gonna click on it to find out.) I'm glad to hear it at least has a pop-up. -nods-

I will say though... There are a lot of confirmation pop-ups for a lot more mundane things comparatively and I know I've found myself automatically clicking through those occasionally... The fact it's right next to something pretty dang mundane looking pretty dang similar makes me feel like it could really use more than a pop-up.
Bug
@Galaxy There is already a confirmation pop-up if you click the button, so I don't think we need to put a PIN on it too - anyone who clicks the button by mistake can back out when the confirmation pop-up comes up.

@thinking_kiwi @Lexiana I am about to change the confirmation text to clearly state that this will not change the pet's actual name, since that part seemed to be a little confusing. I'm also going to edit the text on the actual name change page to be clearer about what the Cleansing Pool does. So that should help :)

I left some words out... I meant:
If not, is there any way you could see if it is possible to put PIN protection on it?
I just felt like that would be the best way, if it's possible, so that people can decide for themselves if they want the hindrance... or not.
Galaxy
@Bug I really hope you don't mind me pinging you...
I finally got brave enough to look at the page, after a friend accidentally cleared a legacy name. (And it understandably ruined their day... So they've stepped away for a while so I can't ask them.)

Are there any kind of protective measures in place? Because the way the links are laid out (and the fact they are just mildly delineated by an image and a little bit of text) is an accident waiting to happen... No, not just an accident... A catastrophe for anyone actually wanting to keep their legacy names...
If not, is any way you could put PIN protection on it?
Judy
It's wonderful to have the option to change the pet names! (I don't really understand the legacy connection yet).
My pet was named Nurish when adopted. I FINALLY could change to Nourish. In the subeta search it finds both pets named Nourish, but when I click mine, it goes to the other Nourish. I guess the links are still set up legacy style.

@Magi

The only once per day wasn't changed, but it's only for the food-removing option. You can use legacy clearing as much as you want.
Stiles
So it just looks like everyone had the original name but they didn't?
Magi
The page says only once per day but it still shows an option to do another pet? At least I thought it let me do it twice yesterday (one pet I put in before I renamed her, because I misunderstood what the pool was about at first)
Tucker
Thank you! Now Matt, Jon, and Shay no longer have reminders of their old names! (Well besides the few times I used them in the forums lol) I may end up using this on some more or even all of my pets. :)
Lexiana
Hahaha, don't get on Subeta first thing in the morning. I thought the same thing as thinking_kiwi. Maybe just a note that it doesn't change the name? But honestly, it could just be that I didn't get enough sleep last night :P
Anrivef
I used it on one of my pets that had gotten renamed while I was on hiatus XD wooh!
BoaConstrictor
Cool idea for all the horribly named pets!
Cassandra
@Shaman I feel ya.
placebo
cool! i don't think i'll need this feature. At least not any time soon. If I ever adopt a pet with a legacy name I dislike completely, then i'll use it for sure thanks for this feature, though :)
Bug
@Mail I don't think so. Could you please file a bug report on the forums? Thank you!
Shaman
Haha, this kinda scares me am I the only one?

Something so nice that makes you forget who you once were?
shudder
Mail
Thank you, can't believe I missed something this big!

I used (not fed) a genderless berry to one of my pets and noticed that it didn't update my pets gender. Is this a bug related to all of the new changes?
Bug
@thinking_kiwi Oh no! Do you think if it would be clearer for it to say "Permanently deletes your pet's legacy name" instead of "Permanently clears your pet's legacy name"? Or if you have another suggestion for clearer wording we'd love to hear.

@Eitleoidhme Nope, it was over a year ago actually. Here's the news post for when that was released! Hopefully the new link at the top of the Pets page will help more people to notice it :)

@Mail Yes, yesterday! (Well, it's just past midnight, so technically 2 days ago now.) Check the news :D
Chef
@Eitleoidhme Appetite Renewal went live March 7, 2019
Chef
@Mail, they are no longer unique as of July 26th. There is a news post just a couple of posts down from this one.
Mail
I feel like I missed something, whoops. Are pet names no longer unique anymore?
Did that change go live, and when? :D
Kale
This is a great addition but it would be nice to have more in the bathhouse shop. There's nothing of interest there to me anymore and my points keep uselessly piling up.
Eitleoidhme
Is the Appetite Renewal option new also?
Oasis
Thank you for creating this option! I haven't yet decided to bathe my pets to get rid of their Legacy Names. But if I do, then at least it will be available.
thinking_kiwi
oops, I thought this feature was to rename the pet not just delete the legacy name haha.
Maybe add that in just to make it clear fro ppl who are completely lost with all the changes?
(I really don't mind though I used it on a pet who didn't even have his name changed ever and I can't wait to change it! ;u;)
ChatLunatique
Thank You! This makes an exciting change even better! It's totally amazing that you made it free as well!

Mmm.... Lucifer had a long soak in the pools, and now feels unburdened by the past! They feel a renewed sense of pleasure at their one and only name.

This is awesome. Thank you.

@Grey the option to remove legacy names had been announced by Bug as soon as the legacy names were implemented on the 26th.
Grey
well I wish i knew this was coming before I dumped a bunch of pets off.
Ginseng
@Souza Pets don't have multiple legacy names and they don't gain additional ones when you change their name. The legacy name is simply the name a pet had at the time non-unique names were implemented. For example, my pet Soothing has the legacy name "Soothing." If I changed their name to Gabriel and then eventually again into Uriel, their legacy name would still and always be "Soothing." The only "change" you can make to a legacy name is to remove it completely.
Ying
@nubby
The legacy names are explained in a previous news post (July 26th).
Souza
I've noticed that legacy names only list the latest name the pet had. When I turned .Zero. to Hydrero, the only legacy name listed is Hydrero. I was expected all the old names to be listed. I'm actually kind of bummed he don't need to take this bath haha
Anrivef
@StarShadow
Sorry to ping twice, I left a bit out—if you change your pet’s real name on the Change Name page, the legacy name will still stay the same. So a pet would basically have “two” names, with the legacy name being purely cosmetic.
Pheon
@StarShadow when renaming your pets ie. Naming Bob to Billy, it will show "name formerly Billy" some people want to remove that for example someone gets a pet but the pets legacy name reminds them of someone that treated them poorly or what have you so it allows them to just have a pet named Bob and not worry about what its name was previously :) Some people like the legacy name to show they had it as ___ before. This just removes showing they ever had a previous name
Anrivef
@StarShadow
If I understand correctly, pets that were made before today now have a “real” name and a “legacy” name. Since “real” names now non-unique, the legacy name is just a label given to pets made before, as a little bit of a consolation for those who were proud of having the “only” pet with that name. If you don’t want your pet to have the secondary “name” (which doesn’t do much, other than a label on the profile and a slightly longer pet URL) this bathhouse thing gets rid of it permanently. But their actual name would stay the same unless you changed it through the Change Name page.

Pets made today and anytime after won’t have a legacy name at all.
StarShadow
I don't understand what this does. Your pet forgets their name and you can rename them? Confusing.
Donteatacowman
@Sprinter137 I sent you a 1-week gold account medal :)
wyrm
Thank you!! I'm happy with the pets I've renamed so far keeping their legacy name, but this is a great option to have!
Tennie
Yesssssss thank you!
@Sprinter137 if you have a gold account, name changes are free once a month. Sometimes they give out gold accounts free, so if you want to wait to name change your pets for free, you can always wait for one of those special giveaways! :)
nubby
I'm a little confused at what this does. What's a legacy name?
Kellijuana
Oh heck yes bring on the amnesia OCs LOL
Elae
Everything about this amnesia pool is just so healing and I'm all for it.
Sprinter137
I wish there was a free way to change their actual names as well, I hate most of my pets names (I adopted them so I didn't name them lol)
Donteatacowman
Subeta says NO DEADNAMES ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘
Delirium
This is a great idea, thank you!
cherub
This is awesome and very clever, thank you!
