Programmer Update: Authentication Issues

Hi everyone! I wanted to give an update on the authentication issues with New Subeta, since those who have this problem may be unable to view the forums.

Keith has been actively debugging this and has already resolved several parts of the problem. Right now, the issue appears to be that some users get automatically logged out of New Subeta too frequently, possibly hourly. This is happening even though the cookie is set to expire after weeks. Keith is actively working on this issue. He's using information collected from reports (thank you!), and he has also reached out to teams at ISPs we've had trouble with to see if that helps us out.

Workaround & Other Useful Info

If you are experiencing any of the following issues:

- Forum threads not loading
- Pages on "new.subeta.net" don't work/load correctly (including wardrobe, custom wearables, cosmetics, and monthly subscriptions page)

Please try going to https://new.subeta.net/ and logging in, and then reload the page you were trying to use. 99% of the time the page will load correctly after you do this. Please note that the username is case sensitive on the login form. Other than that, you should use the same credentials you use on Subeta.net.

If you need more help but cannot access the forums, please use the Ticket Center to let us know. This is the fastest and most certain way to get assistance from staff. You can also use tickets to share more information about the problem.

Finally, you can view Admin Post Highlights (and all admin posts) on those pages even if you can't load the forums. There is also a link on the news sidebar, "Staff Forum Posts" under "Check Out" section, for your convenience.

Having a shared authentication system across two domains is... very tricky. Thank you so much for sticking with us as we figure this out. <3

Here's my current experience, fwiw:

I haven't had issue accessing the forums after doing the new.subeta login, however, in two circumstances it will randomly log me out of new.subeta so I'll get the loading bar if I access the forums.
- First is when I access Subeta incognito mode on Chrome (Windows 10). Understandably I'm not logged in when I start a new session with incognito of course so that's no problem, but I still have to go login to new.subeta every time. It will also kick me from new.subeta at seemingly random times. Some sessions I'm logged in the whole time, sometimes it'll kick me after 2 minutes.
- Second is on Chrome on iOS. As I don't often browse the forums on mobile, when I do, I typically have to log back in to new.subeta every time. My Chrome session is always on with mobile.

So the issue is still persisting with me, albeit at a watered-down level.

I haven’t been able to view forum threads for several months now. I sent in a ticket and was set up with Dill and they had mentioned that my problem might be with most of my browsers, such as Safari and Puffin on mobile and that I should try Chrome. So I downloaded it and gave it a try, viewed a thread from Chrome and it loaded, so I closed the ticket. Well, immediately after I thought the issue was remedied, the forums stopped working on Chrome. So I literally havent been a part of the forum community probably since around Masquerade.

I tried logging into that link but it says “Logging In” indefinitely but never succeeds. :(

It's alright I don't blame you personally.. like any SubetaTeam post just giving a heads up or an edit on the other News post would've been ok... but it was definitely a shit QoL issue that should've been addressed..

Subeta is the coding equivalent of that one DIY home improvement project that you just kept adding onto and is at this point held together primarily with layers of string, duct tape, silly putty, chewed out gum and sheer spite.
They've decided to quietly build a new version from scratch alongside, then decommision the old one, because if you breathe at it just the wrong way, let alone try to add a feature, it threatens to fold like a house of cards.

@Bug I sttill get the authentification thingy - and I've cleared cache relogged in multiple times.
It gets really frustrating if I have to relogg for every time I want to acsess wardrobe/Hustler/CWs

I'm not too bothered by this issue as it's been relatively minor for me. It usually auto-logs in when I just sit on the page for a couple seconds. That said, I think it's time to hire more coders/programmers. Two people is not enough for any website and it's been years of this kind of hobbling and barely holding together. Please consider hiring outside help to speed up the process.

I am one of the people who have had ongoing issues and I can attest that the staff has been working with me to find an answer. Hopefully some of the information Ive sent over will help them fix this

@Ying @Tasty I agree with you 100% that a news post should have been made earlier. There isn't a good answer as to why it was not. Keith has been more focused on actually debugging the problem (and everything else involved in maintaining the website) and he was hoping this would be solved sooner too. Honestly, he has had a lot on his plate, especially since I haven't been around. Now that I'm starting to get back in the swing of things, we should be able to drop the ball less on stuff like that since we're back to having two people instead of one.

I've been having issues with the forums and wardrobe for what seems like ages, this finally fixed it. I think a post could've been made earlier about it but better late than never, I suppose.

Well.. this issue has been going on for /weeks/. I made a thread about it on July 31st and had been having issues for a while. After a few weeks of logging in and out of "old" and "new" Subeta I haven't had issues for 2 weeks ish, but it's a bit crazy that it's taken this long for a News Post to appear, considering that it was confusing as to how I was to resolve the issue without being able to access the forums (the original news post telling us to log in and out of old/new Subeta did not make any suggestions that we would have to do this multiple times to address the issue of forums and wardrobe not working). I guess I could have created a ticket but I didn't think this was an issue specific to me.

I'm glad there's finally a News post but it would have been reassuring to have this posted ages ago.

From my understanding the new website is being built separate because the current site coding is old and outdated. There are only so many times you can rewrite patches of code before you need to rewrite the extremely old code in it's entirety. They are making new bones for the site to make integrating features and coding for the website easier in the future

I had to log out of subeta entirely, then log back in on the new site to get it working properly. Just logging in on the new site was making me relog every couple hours.
So if the steps didn't work for you, try that too.

Thank you! I've literally been unable to view any forum posts for months and had just given up on it. Had absolutely no idea I had to log into a Different Subeta to get there!

For my ticket, step one was, try clearing cookies - which I hate doing and finding out how many of my passwords I've forgotten but... guys.. it worked! I can see the forums again and everything! <3

I have almost the same as BoaConstrictor.
I can use the borders, wardrobe and Cash shop,.
When I click "News", I get an empty white page, same with Personal/Pets. If I click back to front page, this will also be just white but refreshing the page doesn't work for me.

Thank you for the news post and detailed info.
However: "Invalid login credentials, try again?" Same as always. I cannot log in at new.subeta.net.
If I log out and in on regular Subeta, forums and new.subeta work for a while. Than I have to do it again.
Unfortunately I no longer get to the old log in and have to retype evrything every time. I hate it :-(

Forgot to mention in the news post, but I also updated New Subeta to make some of this clearer. Now pages should display a clear message about this problem when you're not logged in. I also added "(case sensitive)" to that username field in case that was tripping anyone up.

It still does not work on my mobile! Sign in and sign out! This started when Subeta brought out these Fanciful Boxs. I had no problem until then. My computer did not even load a couple of times.

My concern is now the billboards not loading, I assume they will eventually come back. I'm surprised I'm not seeing more mention of it, people paid for these things after all.

Thanks for the update. I've been having a few issues but nothing too bad. Mostly the forums not loading and not being able to get into wardrobe yesterday. They seem to be fine at the moment though. I know it's not easy running a site like this. This site is fun for me but the people behind the scenes have to be stressed out by it at times. I just want to say I appreciate all the hard work you guys put into it. <3
