This is the current flag of the United States. This Flag became the Official United States Flag on July 4, 1960. A star was added for the admission of
(50th) Hawaii - August 21, 1959
The FLAG was official in 1960... 47 years... the star was actualy added in 1959... nearly 48 .. I suppose I should have expected this though.. after all, it can never be as simple as caculator math.. I am sure the answer was expected to be to the exact day.~shrugs~
Oh well. Suprisingly though, there was only one possible answer, I just.. screwed it up ... somehow.~smirks~

Mostly interpreting it as the day that Hawaii became fully integrated into the US legal system apart from it's owl legal systems. There were a bunch of court cases in 1961 delegating air use, territorial laws, and other general legal stuff.
Guys, Hawaii became a state in 1959. And if you want to be completely technical, the bill was signed in March 1959: 'On March 11, 1959, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Hawaii Statehood Bill by a vote of 323-89. The next day, March 12, the U. S. Senate passed its bill by the vote of 76 -15.'

The 50th star was added in 1961. <img src=http://www.subetax.org/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_wink.gif border=0> so if we were going by that, then 47 would also be wrong.
