Ryndarwen, you were close. I found that as well, but since they wanted what it was actually called, placing that in a search by itself would have brought you to the actual answer. Trust me, I'm not trying to say it was easy...I spent hours trying to get it, and English is my native tongue.
If you search for the phonetic upsilon sign thingy (ʊ<img src=http://www.subetax.org/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_wink.gif border=0> on wikipedia and read the intro, it literally says it's informally know as the 'horseshoe u' ^^ I got it right too, yay~

Blah, I got the previous trivia wrong. XD I knew what the question was talking about--I just put the wrong "name." Oh well...that 10k sP would've been nice, but at least I got the feather from the other trivia already.

caues the second u in "owl" is called a Near-close near-back rounded vowel. and the informal way of saying that is horseshoe u XD
