Cash Shop: Living Petri Dish
The Volitus Ventri has very little recorded history, instead being more of a plant of legend. Said to lay dormant beneath the soil for around 250 years at a time, the little information that exists on it has been passed down through word of mouth. It's said that to write about the Volitus Ventri is to ask for trouble. Some say that the plant itself will track you down and make both you and your research simply disappear. I'm getting a little nervous myself writing this, as signs of the Volitus Ventri have been spotted in the forests surrounding Peka Glade!
Although believed to share a common ancestor with the aeanoid, the Volitus Ventri is a lot scarier. You may find yourself attracted to going near it, but the spores it gives out are tricking your mind. When you get close enough you may find that the plant-beast sends you into paralysis, where it then tries to consume you...to become you.
You must destroy the plant as quickly as you can! This Living Petri Dish from the Cash Shop will infect you with just enough spores to guide you to the Volitus Ventri, but you must overcome the challenges and defeat it before it's too late!
The Discarded Droid Face Plate will retire on May 1st.

Looks like I was possibly wrong on this one. Looks like the book is still 12mil on shop search. If you can beat the challenger with 3 pets (not a super difficult task), this thing is potentially profitable.
That being said, i'm not sure how long its going to take you to sell 3 copies, especially if there is a ig rush to go buy the challenger in the last week.

This is very much my aesthetic- I am a little torn with it being a challenger I could possibly battle, do I want to spend money on two of them? Hm.
Art is GREAT, I am in love <3

Well if we look at this challenger as an investment (either financial or EXP payout) it might not be worth it at all, but what if we look at it as a form of collection? Would it be as bad as it appears to be then?
Let's look at some other forms of collecting on site. I know some of the hardcore plushie/ beanbag/ sticker collectors out there who would dump billions into their collection, and that is money they will never earn back through their collections. As battlers who collect things that bite, we at least get something in return, no matter how small, and I already consider that good enough.
Moreover, within the CS series itself, there will always be challengers with loot that will pay off for even low-value ones such as this. True enough, some of the research notes challengers are one-hit for most, but then we've got a special opponent worth 750CSC practically for free. That is not to mention the cost of the PBB, which in itself now pays for two unlocking items even at today's pricing of CSC. Same goes with the Titan and Fairy tales series.
I must say the Titan series is one of the best series we've got so far, especially for established battlers, but then it means pets at lower tiers (T6 and below) with a budget set cannot participate. Sometimes we need low-tier challengers too, so that beginning battlers also enjoy the sense of achievement when they can finally beat something and have the incentive/ motivation to go on training to beat other things. That sense of achievement should not be only limited to us who own T10+ pets.
So I'd say yes, we've got the option not to buy these challengers, but I wouldn't want these lower tier guys to stop being designed or released just because they fail to entertain us. Well, as long as the rest of the series are not filled with them, of course. I'd say a range of opponents from Medium to Impossible spread out evenly throughout a year's stock of CS challengers is fair game to every one. When I run out of my current CSC hoard, I wouldn't want to see a Hard to Impossible CS challenger every month either (obviously for selfish reasons, lol).

1) I never said it had to be profitable, I said this is unusually low value.
2) If you are not making a profit on many challengers, your doing it wrong.
3) Even the challengers that do not break profit, provide a much better ratio than what this challenger will provide. The value on this one is one of the worst ever.
4) I have to say I am shocked at the price of the book. I don't think any are selling, but i'm shocked it hasn't dropped more. Then again there are 6 listed in trades@2.5mil each, so I have a hunch there is some price manipulation/speculation going on.

*dumps billions into battling*
"this 250 csc challenger doesn't rewards 25m+ in items"
well... duh

Battling has never been profitable nor does it 'retain value' not at any time in the nine years I have played here. Nor should it, IMO.
Do battling if you so happen to think battling is fun.

I'm of the Gotta Catch Them All mindset. After it retires the book will keep its value at a fairly decent price. I usually read and put one in my gallery.

What happens if we unlock a challenger twice? I just bought the face plate and nothing happened when I unlocked it. I think I must have already had it and just wasted 250 CSC. :S Shouldn't there be a warning or something?

I'm pretty much in gotta catch em all mode too, I'm not criticizing people who do that.
I have seen on the BC boards who are struggling to put together 5mil for some scrolls, that I see rushing to buy something like this. And for those people this might be the second worst value BC related purchase since Corrosive Research Notes. So to those people I say buyer beware, this is 25mil for essentially a checkmark.
My second motive for pointing this out is that hopefully in the future, they could look at this and realize how crappy the value is for the people in gotta cathem all mode. It's not like it was fun for me to spend 45 seconds getting 10 wins, it gave no financial incentive, and if I would ever look at the stats ahead of time on these challengers I would strongly consider not buying. Instead of buying, unlocking, then going shit I definately just blew 25mil on the next 45 seconds of entertainment.

Admittedly I'm of the "gotta catch 'em all" mindset for challengers, but I really don't unlock based on wanting to get/resell the loot. I like seeing what makes the challenger unique. Plus, while the exp is a drop in the bucket for my T13, it's always great to have challengers when you're growing small pets. And, I recognize that there are battlers of all levels and catering to just high-tier pets isn't really an inclusive way to grow battling.

Fabulous artwork! I thought of Triffids at first, they scared the living daylights out of me when I was young, lol. And may I say a big thank you to the Bathhouse Pools for providing the wherewithal :)

maybe below 100K is an exageration on the book, because people will speculate on it (probably incorrectly)
There are people that can win 20 of those things today, and while each of those could theoretically be read back to the pet that won it, many of them won't be.
Look at nightmare crumbs. people were paying like 4-5mil for the in the week after it was released, I flash sold my 11 for 1.1-1.5mil each, and now they are back to 1.6mil but with one person with a publicly listed position of 20x, and I would not be shocked if that persons prively held collection was even higher.
Don't unlock the challenger unless you are going to read that book to tons of pets, there is very little value in unlocking this challgner for 95% of people. If by some miracle the book is still at 2-3mil per copy, unlock it just before it retires.
But these items are going to crash just like nightmare crumbs.

@THESOVEREIGN Under 100k, are you sure? Because one of the loot items is a book, and book items like this tend to remain high-priced just because there is always high demand for them no matter how simple they are to get. I wouldn't expect the book to drop much more below 1m even in a couple months, to be honest.
Though your point still stands, that alone will never make up for the 250 CSC spent on the challenger in the first place.

If you think its a worthwhile wearable at 30mil sP, then its worth buying.
If you are buying it for the loot and the EXP, there is about 1.3mil value in a 30mil package if used.
If you have 30+ pets that you train, it might be worthwhile, but those are the people that didn't need me to tell them to buy it to figure that out. I think there are maybe 3-5 battlers that can take advantage of this challenger outside of a desire to gotta catchem all.

Buyer beware for unlocking the challenger, it is terrible value. (like most low level challengers.)
This loot will be under 100K each in 1 month.
