Cash Shop: Bloody Shark Jaw
Did you ever visit the carnival and play the kind of game where you won a live fish as a prize? Did you ever wonder where those fish came from, or even where the unwon fish went at the end of the day? I don’t imagine many did, as a child.
Many years ago, there was one such fish that did not get won. He did not even get taken home by the stall owner, for his little bag fell to the floor and smashed, with his little fish body falling through the cracks in the pier. The ocean swallowed him up, and it was a cruel beast to a little funfair fish.
Plagued by the carnival music in his mind and a desire to be won, the little fish grew up fighting for survival in the open ocean, luck being his only companion as no other fish would come close. He longed to belong, and would try to approach people in the ocean but there was something about his appearance that seemed to scare them off - maybe the result of his injuries obtained in his fall. His quiet approaches turned into desperate chases, which often resulted in collisions with sharp objects that only further created his visage of horror. He disappeared one day, and people began to forget about him, talking only of legend.
Until today.
Jollyjaw is back, and is both enormous and frightening to behold with his appearance of a damaged carnival clown. Gone are his memories of any kind of happy life, replaced only by a desire to hunt and destroy any sense of belonging a person may have to the world. Ah poor baby. I remember my "carnival goldfish. Luckily my dad was savvy enough to stop me from dumping them into the same tank as my mom's fan-tail guppies.

@Ryuu We're okay. Ultimately, we're both in vehement agreement that this is a terrible thing and people should stop doing it. It's bad for the animals, obviously. It's also bad for the kids, because responsibility is not the lesson it teaches them, and it's bad for the rest of the family, because nobody asked them what they wanted or what they could handle.
If you want to teach kids responsibility, setting them up to kill an animal slowly by neglect rather than actually teaching them how to take care of it properly (and making sure they have everything they need to do so) is not the way to do it.

But, ugh. I swear that they do the giving away of fish as some sort of misguided attempt at teaching kids responsibilities and as a reminder that death happens.
They still give away fish to kids at schools and it's disgusting. I learned from my niblings that they 'won' a fish at the end of school, and it was dead within a week. I have zero idea why no one mentioned it; I have spare fish stuff, I would have helped them take care of it or taken it. It still may have died, but it was treated like it was a toy, not a living thing.

@Ryuu -- you obviously know a lot more about fish than I do! Which is as it should be, since you have them.
My point was just that any animal given to a small child has not got a snowball's chance in Hades if the parents aren't involved, willing to learn how to properly care for the animal if they don't already know, and able to go out and purchase everything they need to make that happen. Fish tanks are expensive and in the school I attended as a kid, more than half the kids got free lunches. Yet they gave out goldfish at the school festival for winning games and how is a parent who needs help making sure their kids get lunch going to get and properly care for an aquarium? How is a single parent with two jobs going to manage a surprise pet?

I love my fish and I love my shrimps and my snails and the idea of this guy is so sad. :( They're alive, they deserve to live a long and happy fish life. Nice job on this challenger, making me feel feelings and all.

But is it THAT bad of a life? Aren't carnival fish known for living maybe a few days after being won? You're a legend for living so long, even with all the horrible injuries you've encountered, and I admire you.
his backstory is tragic and sad, his appearance gives me Joker in fish form, and this as a challenger in general smacks the term "shark week" into my face, but jollyjaw is awesome and I would like to see a subeta shark pet because of him!

Don't support carnivals that offer live animals as prizes! They are terribly mistreated and most are goldfish, incredibly rewarding, long-living pets :D puts away soapbox
