Lovely art, what a beautiful tribute to the Notre Dame! I was horrified seeing the news posts about the fire yesterday, what a tragic loss for France! Hopefully, they are able to rebuild soon.

It's sad we can't even get a thoughtful tribute item without users trying to instigate arguments in the comments. *Checks 'Average Age' poll statistics* Lmfao. The background is beautiful and thoughtful, and much appreciated. Vive la France. Our Lady still stands.

I'll clarify why I say that.
My initial comment didn't have anything wrong with it. I wasn't hurting anyone, and if you or anyone else took it as being rude that's not my fault. I cannot and will not concern myself with worrying about what every single person on the planet might think about what I've said and try to cater it to strangers - I've played that game for years and the only thing it gets me is stress and low self-worth. I spoke my side of things in my first comment and it wasn't intended to hurt anyone, but I can't say the same for the response I got from it.

Notre Dame didn’t burn to the ground, but the roof was completely destroyed and the interior ceiling caved in in a few places. The church looks to be in decent shape inside from photos, I’m sure they will be successful in restoring it.

One of the prettiest tributes yet. One of my besties rings bells at the National Cathedral here in the US, and he's so distraught over the fire, but happy they saved the bells.

I like your comment and what you said to your brother.
Of course it will be a waste of money... but I have the feeling that our old stones are more important for us as inheritors of historical heritage than something quite so banal and insubstantial is money.
As you replied to your brother, Notre Dame is iconic, not only for France but also world wide... so I realy hope my country will "waste" a lot of money to save it and make it shine again. o/
I think She is something worthing us to spend money for.
Amen.

Thank you for this beautiful tribute. I’ve never been to Notre Dame and am not religious, but it breaks my heart to see any archaeological or historical site damaged or destroyed. I’m so glad to learn that the main structure is intact and the rose windows are mostly unscathed.

Thank you for this lovely tribute. It made me tear up. I know that they will rebuild, but this was such a tragedy and so sad.

It’s such a shame what happened to the Cathedral.
France has stated they want to rebuild, but it was costing them 5million a year in maintenance. My brother said “No one or no other country will chip in because rebuilding it is a waste of money” I said “Yes! They will rebuild because it’s iconic”.

@FairestMoss You could have just said that this is a nice item and not said the other part, instead of letting off an air of rude ignorance in your first comment. NOW we know you have your reasons, but you brought it up in the first place.

My last year of undergrad, I remember going to Paris on a family vacation to Europe during my winter break and being awe inspired walking into Notre Dame. The church was having a special service ( this was after Christmas right before the new year so I unfortunately didn’t take pictures, at the time it felt rude to act like a tourist while a full church service was going on but Notre Dame is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful, and it’s in my memories which is enough.)
This is a beautiful tribute so thank you subeta for it.

Beautiful! Thank you so much for these tributes. ♥ I was at Notre Dame in 2010 and lit a candle for my mother. Not sure whether to put the bell in my wardrobe or mums memorial pets treasure yet. But it's a wonderful gift. Thank you.

I was horrified. Especially when I saw that the whole building was on fire. They did manage to save a part of it. According to the current news, 30 percent of the relics survived the fire. The frame is still standing. The only worry is about the sandstones walls. Sandstone can't handle heat very well. I hope the firedepertment managed to keep them cool enough.
Thank you for the Tribute

On a really cool note they are going to use 3d Renderings from Assassins Creed Unity and a researcher named Tallon who died a year ago to rebuild the Cathedral!

I hope there'll be enough followup news to see how it keeps doing reconstruction-wise after this. I've never been to Notre Dame but I hope I'll get to see it in November when I go to France for the first time.

@Mackenzi Well said! I didn't even really think about it, but now that you mention those footnotes, it really registers. It's so devastating to experience first-hand, but when you read it in a history book, you don't really think twice about it. Guess I'll be paying more attention to those throwaway sentences now....

As someone who only dreamed of Notre Dame in real life and devastated by the news of what had happened, I was shocked. But like many other users have said before me, this is a lovely tribute. All I can say is "Vive la France!" (To all the french users, I apologize for my use of the language (especially if it is wrong). It has been at least 6 years (7 in May) since I took a French lesson).

Mackenzi
Nobody died, even so close to Easter, and so much was saved. I am in amazement such a terrible fire did not claim a single life. The videos are hard to watch, heartbreaking, but it is part of the Cathedral's history now.
Isn't it strange- we read notes like this when learning history, so many old buildings and places have footnotes "much was lost in a fire in 1823 and was rebuilt in 1890" and we barely register the event in our minds. Seeing it happen was devastating and puts those lil notes into a startling context. Someday this will be a footnote in some text about Paris history with someone's before and after Twitter photos, and they will look at their rebuilt church with wonder at how these things humans make can still survive through centuries.

As someone who almost never look at news because that's affecting to much my mental health... I totaly understand your reaction toward their ping.
I am sure they didn't wanted to hurt you, but you especialy said you didn't wanted to know, and I think it's VERY rude and unrespectfull that they pinged back you here to let you know what happened in Paris.
That's your choice if you don't wan't to know, and nobody should had something to say about that because, as individual human beings we don't have to embrace all of the world's tragedies and bad news, (especialy when we come on a web game).
And it's okay to live our life at our own scale.... :)
(I don't usualy go to such discutions, but I though it was important to let you know that I felt bad when I saw they pinged you back. Have a good day/night <3 )

Yeah, and my reasons include severe anxiety caused by PTSD. Maybe people should respect when someone doesn't want to know something instead of trying to force it on them.

Thank you, staff, for this awesome tribute. You guys are truly incredible when it comes to keeping up with the times and whipping out a new item when something like this occurs. These bells are the best way to pay a tribute to the lovely Notre Dame as it was before (and the movie, haha), and to ring out the coming of a revival for this stunning piece of architecture. Also, a huge thank you to all the firefighters of France who saved almost everything! What incredible people to have risked their lives and lost their sleep for all of this.

Thank you for the lovely thoughtful tribute, I visited the Cathedral in the 80's with my sister, it really is a massive place, and built on a hill so it overlooks all of Paris, [lots of steps] They will rebuild it, just like York Minster was rebuilt when it too had an enormous fire.

I am still in shock.
Also this should go without saying, but fighting and snark in a tribute post is just disrespectful.

I read the comments to see what this is about. I don’t really follow news...
It really sucks about the fire. Cathedrals are so beautiful and so important to many different groups. I’m not European or religious but I have high respect for old historical things and art. They can re build the church but it won’t be the same :( my heart goes out to them

Thank you so much to whoever made this and also for making it a free gift. This almost brought me to tears. Having only visited and remembering standing in front of the bells and hearing that they survived the fire brought such relief. I can only imagine the heartache and relief for Parisians to have the fire finally out.

Such a beautiful tribute. I sure hope not all is lost and it can be rebuilt. I've never visited but it had always been a dream of mine to, such wonderful history lay within.

Well, that was fast.
This had been hard to watch last night, I'm very relieved the main body of the structure is left standing and at least some of the art was carried out. For a while there it looked like the entire thing may come down, which would have been a devastating loss :(

"A massive blaze at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris devastated large parts of the 850-year-old church. The fire is now out, but the cathedral's iconic spire fell during the hours it took to battle the blaze. French President Emmanuel Macron, in an address to the nation, promised Parisians that they will 'rebuild this cathedral together.' "
It's international news. It's important to know what's happening in the world around you.

Thank you guys so much for this. I was crying last night watching the videos, as I had the chance to visit Notre Dame in 2012 with my mother and like many others have fond memories of it. Thankfully the damage can be repaired and no lives were lost, and the cathedral will rise again from its ashes.

No one died, at least as far as the news goes.
The Notre Dame cathedral just had a fire that caused parts of it to burn. People are concerned about it and hope that it can be repaired is all. It is an important historical site in France for both religious and non-religious alike.
